Remembering Al FieldOn the morning of Sunday, January 13,2002, Alfred Field, Jr., division manager atour Concord, NH facility passed away aftera valiant struggle with cancer.

Al had always been a sports enthusiast, andloved to talk about any and every kind ofsport… baseball (especially), football, golf, hunting, fishing. Actively involved in manysports throughout his life, his hunting exploits, especially, were peppered with situations thatcould “only happen to Al.”

Al loved kids and spent a great deal of timeworking with them, especially in youth base-ball programs. He encouraged those of us whowere parents to spend quality time with ourkids and support them in every way possible.

Al was a unique person in business and knewnearly everyone in our industry. It wasn’t hisstyle to be pushy or showy, yet he accomplishedhis objectives using his knowledge of the indus-try and, more importantly, his understandingof people.

People were always Al’s business. He had anuncanny ability to make all people think thatthey were his best friend. That was easily seenby the several hundred people that attended hiscalling hours and funeral service.

In summation, Al was our friend. We alwayswill hold a special place in our hearts forhim, our memories will be fond ones, andwe will miss him greatly. Gone, but neverforgotten! The Rhode Island Division and PEP Transportation teamed up

to supply RAM Construction with North American Green ero-sion control materials needed to stabilize this hill behind theNewport Mall.

The Maine TurnpikeAuthority, R.J. Grondin,Woodward & Curran andTeam EJP teamed up toreroute the 42” transmis-sion main feeding the cityof Portland from SebagoLake.

Rolling right alongWith its base of operations in Gardiner, ME,

and trucks in Princeton, MA, and Toledo, OH,PEP Transportation recently added new hubs inIndiana, New Jersey and Vermont. Four trucksare now operating out of Florence, NJ, and oneeach is based in Rutland, VT, and Indianapolis.

“We’re not just based in Maine ,” says PEPTransportation Manager Todd Arsenault.“We’re expanding into new areas to better serveour customers.”

Scheduling still remains centrally based inGardiner. To learn more about how PEPTransportation can help get your hauling project on the road, call 1-800-678-3991.

Keeping paceTeam EJP’s Avon Division is proud of its

recent role in two large construction projects onthe Bay State’s South Shore.

In Taunton, Avon provided supplies for roadconstruction to an industrial park. Workingclosely with G. Lopes Construction of Taunton,EJP representative Louis Schoolcraft II supplied12” class 52 ductile iron pipe; 30-inch ductileiron drain pipe; 6-inch and 12-inch ductile irongate valves; and B62B hydrants. In addition,Team EJP supplied Sure-Lock drainpipe andStargrip joint restraint.

In Weymouth, Team EJP provided P. CaliaccoCorp. of Rockland, water and sewer supplies forits Avalon Bay project. Team EJP has suppliedover 3500 linear feet of 42-inch Lamson-Vylonclosed profile PVC pipe.

Said Caliacco project manager Marc Ciampa,“EJ Prescott’s quick response and deliveries havekept us moving at our pace. Their service hasbeen extremely reliable throughout this project.”

Many hands, many thanksIn the spring of 2001, the Maine Turnpike

Authority began work on exit 7B in SouthPortland. The new exit required the PortlandWater District to reconfigure its 42-inch trans-mission main that feeds the city of Portlandfrom Sebago Lake. Woodward & Curran wasretained as the District’s engineer.

This project required replacement of a 240-foot section of 42-inch diameter cast iron mainwith 42-inch high-density polyethylene pipe.Because of heavy earth loads needed for the exitramp, the new pipe was run through a 60-inchdiameter ductile casing.

EJ Prescott was awarded the contract to sup-ply all materials including the fusion servicework. R.J. Grondin of Gorham, ME was thecontractor responsible for site work and pipeinstallation.

This very technical project required closecooperation among all parties. EJP would like tocongratulate and thank all involved for their

help in completingthis exciting anddemanding projectsuccessfully.

Pawtucket, RI, needed apiece of pipe for peace ofmind. Water department

officials wanted this 20-footlength of 64-inch diameter

pipe on hand in case ofemergency. Team EJP’s

Rhode Island Division wasmore than happy to oblige.

Ground-breaking, so to speak Team EJP’s West Indianapolis Division recent-

ly broke new ground in the area of pipe bursting.West Indy supplied Miller Pipeline Corporationof Indianapolis, a load of HDPE pipe for a pipe-bursting project in Parker City, IN. As part of theproject, EJP marketing representative BrentOlson was invited to view the steps involved inMiller’s approach to such projects.

Miller uses its hydraulic Xpandit system toreplace deterioratedlines with HDPEpipes using mini-mum excavation. Atrenchless system,Xpandit splits theold pipe and pushesit into the sur-rounding soil. Thenew pipe is thenpulled directly intothe existing space.

In Parker City,Miller’s task was toreplace a waterline running along an alley betweentwo residential properties, where more traditionalpipe replacement would have been difficult.

Team EJP wants to thank Miller Corporationfor their business, and we look forward to contin-ue serving Miller on future projects.
