RITUAL OF HEALING AND HOPE

HYMN 543ABIDE WITH ME

Abide with me: fast falls the eventide; The darkness deepens; Lord, with me abide! When other helpers fail and comforts flee,Help of the helpless, O abide with me.

Swift to its close ebbs out life's little day;Earth's joys grow dim, its glories pass away;Change and decay in all around I see.O Thou who changest not, abide with me.

I need Thy presence every passing hour; What but Thy grace can foil the tempter's power?Who, like Thyself, my guide and stay can be?Through cloud and sunshine, Lord, abide with me.

I fear no foe, with Thee at hand to bless:Ills have no weight, and tears no bitterness.Where is death's sting? Where, grave, thy victory?I triumph still, if Thou abide with me.

Hold Thou Thy cross before my closing eyes;Shine through the gloom and point me to the skies:Heaven's morning breaks, and earth's vain shadows flee; In life, in death, O Lord, abide with me.

PRAYER OF CONFESSIONEternal God,  In whom we live and move and have our being, whose face is hidden from us by our sins, and whose mercy we forget in the blindness of our hearts: Cleanse us from all our offenses, and deliver us from proud thoughts and vain desires, that with reverent and humble hearts we may draw near to you, confessing our faults, confiding in your grace, and finding in you our refuge and our strength; through Jesus Christ your Son.

ASSURANCE OF GOD’S PRESENCE & MERCYGod consoles us in all our affliction,So that we may be able to console those who are in any affliction.For just as the sufferings of Christ are abundant for us,So also our consolation is abundant through Christ.

Anyone who is in Christ is a new creationThe old life has gone; a new life has begun.

Friends, know that Jesus Christ is with us and be at peace.Amen.
