Page 2 Fr. Ray’s Message

God Makes a Way…Out of No Way Do you ever get discouraged? Often times, to a certain degree, many of us experience that sense or feeling

of discouragement. Being a priest is no exception, as I’ve come to learn over the past 15 months. The tempta-tion towards being discouraged is even more powerful as a priest because many times I don’t see the “results” of my ministry. Unlike the medical profession where one can see treatment “results” instantaneously, ministry does not necessarily provide instantaneous “results.” The fruits of ministry may never fully manifest till Heav-en. The best that I can hope and pray for is that this person’s life is changed for the better or that they have had an encounter with Jesus. Sometimes it’s hard to know if I’m making a positive difference. Sometimes it can be discouraging to realize whether or not I’m doing the best I can to build up the Kingdom of God.

However, the words of our Second Reading gives me real encouragement— “Bear your share of hardship for the gospel with the strength that comes from God” (2 Tim 1:8). Life, especially a life lived out according to the gospel, will have its share of hardships. Life will have its discouragements. But at all times we must keep in mind: we bear that hardship, we bear that moment of discouragement with the strength that comes from God. God will provide us the strength we need to overcome. He does and he will! As one Bishop reminds me often: “God makes a way … out of no way.”

Be strengthened, Fr. Ray

Dios Hace Un Camino… Donde No Hay Vereda ¿Alguna vez te has desalentado?

Sean fortalecidos, sinceramente, Padre Ray

Fr. Douglas Al-Bazi is a Chaldean Catholic pastor from Baghdad, Iraq. During his time as pastor at Mar Elia Church in the New

Baghdad neighborhood, he was shot in the leg and his church was attacked three times. Then, in 2006, Fr. Bazi was kidnapped and tor-tured by a militant extremist group for nine days. By God's grace, Fr. Bazi survived. He now resides in Australia and is an international

speaker on Christian persecution and genocide in Iraq, Syria, and the Middle East. Come hear his incredible testimony of survival and forgiveness, the profound role of mercy, and the imperative for protecting religious freedom.

Women of Grace Women of Grace is a Catholic apostolate whose mission is to transform the world one woman at a time by affirming women in their dignity and vocation as daughters of God and in their gift of authentic femininity. Women of Grace is for times such as these.

Women of Grace and all of its outreaches are consecrated to Our Lady of Guadalupe.

Our Sacred Heart Church group meets from September through June every Wednesday morning at 10:00 a.m. in the Fr. Kesterson Center. All women are invited to join us in our faith journey.

We read scripture, rely on the Catechism of the Catholic Church to an-swer questions of faith, study Catholic spiritual books (most are written for women), and witness to one another about our lived faith experienc-es. Come meet the ladies in our group, share in fellowship with them, grow in faith, and renew your spiritual encounters with the Lord.

First Friday Holy Hour

Friday, Oct 7 Time: 7pm-8pm

“I have come to set a fire upon the earth.” -Mk. 12:49

In this First Friday devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, we pro-vide a place for intimacy with Je-sus, so he can set your heart on fire with His love.

There will be Exposition, Ado-ration, and Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament with prayers, songs and preaching. It will be led by a Deacon or Priest in the Church.

Why Do Catholics Do That?

When I enter a Church where do I genuflect? Is it proper to make the sign of the cross when genuflecting?

It is right to acknowledge the Lord's Real Presence with a brief act of worship on entering or leaving the building. Normally a genuflection in the direction of the place of reservation, coupled with a turning of the mind towards Him is enough. When genuflecting, making the sign of the cross is optional. It is not an inherent part of the genuflection, so it can be made or omitted.
