Music sensation The Frown came into existence in Eve Rakow’s bedroom in Kalk Bay, joining forces with Double Adapter/ Cutout Collective musician Tim Apter for the EP “a-men”. The Frown is a playground for Eve and her many collaborators to express themselves in a musical landscape that is complex, simple, organic and synthesized at the same time. Pulling influences from artists like Fever Ray, Coco Rosie, Bjork, iamwhoiam and Salem, The Frown is a curious mixture of folk and electronica - a sound people have dubbed “Euphoira-Core” for its heady mix of soaring strings and orchestration, low tempo colliding beats, dark and menacing basslines and Rakow’s fragile yet commanding vocals.

As one of Religion’s brand ambassadors, Eve was the perfect muse for an editorial project sponsored by the brand. Bringing together the talents of photographer Chris Saunders, stylist Bee Diamondhead and make-up artist Michael MacOlive, this shoot presented the perfect platform to showcase these artists’ visions and present a unique and edgy concept.
