Many GodsAncient Egyptians were polytheists (worshiping many gods). The gods they worshiped were related to their belief in an afterlife and to parts of nature, such as the sun, the river, and plant life. Here are some of their most important gods.

Ra: The Sun God

Ra was highly worshiped by the Egyptians. Pharaohs often connected themselves with Ra in an attempt to be seen as a god themselves.

Osiris

Osiris was the Egyptian god of the underworld who judged Egyptians after death.

IsisIsis was a fertility goddess who was Osiris’ wife. Isis is considered the patron saint of women, mothers and children.

AnubisAnubis was the god of the dead, responsible for weighing the heart against the feather of Maat.

Ancient Egyptians believe in over 2000 different gods and goddesses. There are many different pictures and names given for them.
