Cable infoRemote Electrical Tilt (RET) or Variable Downtilt antennas

enable mobile phone network operators to adjust the beam of

an antenna to meet changing conditions such as variations in

the density of traffic during the day. By doing so it is possible to

optimise the network.

Typically the movement of the antenna array is controlled using

an RS485 signal carried over a multicore cable together with

electrical power to drive some kind of motor. The protocols for

controlling the antenna in this way have been drawn up by an

industry body, the Antenna Interface Standards Group (AISG).

Typical requirements are:• Max OD of 8mm to fit connector styles mandated by AISG

• 24/ 48V power

• Data (+/- & ground)

• Screening as the cable operates in a noisy RF environment

• Weather resistant jacket material as cable will see exposure

to rain, wind and snow with temperatures in the range -40°C

Example of: Deformed cable after Hydrostatic test

Key features for RET cablesto + 60°C together with moisture, UV, dust and vibration.

• Many manufacturers require the materials to be low smoke

zero halogen (LSZH or LS0H) or at least fire resistant.

Our expertiseHabia Cable has over 60 years’ experience in manufacturing

cables for harsh environmental conditions. Combining this

expertise with cost effective production in our Chinese

manufacturing plant in Changzhou, gives us the capability to

offer a high quality solution at an attractive price to the market.

With a long history of dealing with the cellular antenna market

we are proud to consider ourselves the leading manufacturer

of hand formable type cable for use within the antennas

themselves. We are now able to produce these cables

compliant with the AISG specifications in a number of different

constructions to meet the varied requirements of the Remote

Electrical Tilt market. Examples of our product range are

shown overleaf.

• RG coaxials - coaxial cables

Specialist Coaxial CablesAll of today’s mobile communication technologies rely on

radio waves to carry voice, data and media. The airwaves

now carry a huge volume of traffic due to increased mobile

communications and this dramatic increase is set to continue.

As the airwaves become busier, communications signals are

moving up to higher bandwidths, using higher frequencies to

transmit data.

Our product rangeToday’s coaxial cables need better screening and purity

of signal because of the higher risk of attenuation or distortion

at higher frequencies. Also for ease of installation and

manufacturing there is a need for improved physical properties

such as flexibility, handling and termination. Combined with

higher technology in cable materials and manufacturing

processes, there is no longer a need to sacrifice physical

characteristics for electrical performance.

Our specialist RF and Communications coaxial cable products

have been developed to meet our customers’ demands in

a world where product innovation is moving forward at a

tremendous pace. Habia Cable is committed to developing

partnerships for the future and working together into the long

term. Our experience and vision will enable you to make it

happen.
