What is Reliability?

Reliability - The probability that a

component part, equipment, or system

will satisfactorily perform its intended

function under given circumstances,

such as environmental conditions,

limitations as to operating time, and

frequency and thoroughness of

maintenance for a specified period of time.


What is Maintainability?

Maintainability - Characteristic of design

and installation which determines the

probability that a failed equipment,

machine, or system can be restored to its

normal operable state within a given

timeframe, using the prescribed

practices and procedures. Its two main

components are serviceability and

reparability.


What is the Focus of an R&M Program?

Finding the balance between

reliability, maintenance and

maintainability…in design, in

repair/modification, and in

asset management.
