RELI 530Genealogies of Religion

This seminar explores the emergence of “religion” as a central component of the modern social order. We will engage in a close and critical reading of key texts from the nineteenth century German philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche to consider what Nietzsche can show both about the role of religion in modernity and about modern critiques of religion.
