New features and enhancements

This section lists features and enhancements that were added in thisrelease of the software.

Preflight+

Prinergy Workflow 7.0 introduced Preflight+, a new feature thatincorporates the preflight capabilities of callas pdfToolbox into yourPrinergy workflow. Preflight+ enables you to analyze and/or fix inputfiles as well as refined PDF files in a single refine task while creatingreports in PDF, XML or text format. Export your existing Callas orAdobe Acrobat Pro preflight profiles into Prinergy to check for specificissues or create profiles that will validate & create PDF files thatconform to the most current PDF/X & GWG standards. Contact yourlocal sales representative today to start using this powerful newfeature in your workflow.

Preflight+ is a chargeable feature that will replace the AdvancedPreflight feature in one of our next releases. Existing Prinergy userswith an Advanced Preflight license will automatically receive onePreflight+ JTP when upgrading to version 7.0.1.

Important: Kodak does not support or provide a license for callas pdfToolboxsoftware. However, a copy of pdfToolbox (Preflight+ profile manager) is providedand licensed solely for the purpose of editing and creating preflight profiles thatare to be used within Prinergy. For information and support with the creation andediting of profiles, go to http://www.callassoftware.com/callas/doku.php/en:support:overview.

For instructions about exporting and adding your existing profiles toPrinergy, see the latest Prinergy user guide. Check the limitationssection in this Release Notes for Preflight+ related items that arecurrently not supported.

Layered PDF Versioning (LPV)

Note: The Layered PDF Versioning (LPV) feature is relevant only to the WorkshopUI of Prinergy Workflow.

Support for multiple page name patterns

You can now define more than one page name patterns for eachlayer in the version plan. Page name patterns are separated by asemi-colon.

Simultaneous copy, paste, and delete in the version plan

You can now copy the data of the last three columns in theversion plan (Page Name Pattern, Page Name Back Reference, and Page Number Back Reference) and paste them intoadditional rows or into another version plan simultaneously.

New features and enhancements 11

Page 18: Release Notes - Kodak · Operating system Mac OS X 10.8, 10.9 and 10.10 Microsoft Windows 7 Professional Microsoft Windows 8.1 Pro Microsoft Windows Server 2008 x64 Microsoft Windows

Retaining PDF layer mapping

The mapping of the input file's layers to the version plan'slayers is now retained so that each new input file that is addedto the job can be automatically mapped to the job layers usingthe latest mapping data. A PDF layer mapping profile is saved inthe job's folder and can be applied to other jobs. Using suchprofiles enables automatic mapping of layers which increasesefficiency and consistency.

PDF Preflight report per versioned page

You can now generate a preflight report for a selectedversioned page or pages.

Detecting and marking common error object differences

Prinergy 7.0.1 enables you to identify error objects in a layer, mark them with a red X, move or copy faulty elements to anerror layer, and restrict output of such layers. Instead ofcancelling the output of all versions because of an error in oneversion, you can now decide whether you want to output theversions that contain errors or only the error-free versions.

Detecting and marking white objects on versions/layers

Prinergy 7.0.1 enables you to identify white objects on a layer, and mark them with an orange X. A warning is issued if a whiteobject is detected on a layer so that the extracted colors can bechanged.

Support for a Ricoh digital front end

Prinergy 7.0.1 features a bi-directional JDF/JMF connectivity betweenWorkspace and the Ricoh digital front end. The device capabilities areretrieved from the Ricoh digital front end via JMF (Job MessagingFormat) and are captured in the Prinergy database. When you add theRicoh digital front end in Setup, its capabilities are updated in Setup viathe device's JMF response. In Setup, you can also import Ricoh'ssubstrates and refresh the capabilities received from the Ricoh digitalfront end. These properties are also displayed in Plan, in the DigitalOutput step of the digital output scenario and can be edited. Basicparameters used for Ricoh digital front end jobs also appear in thepart's Properties pane, enabling you to send a document to the devicewithout opening the Digital Output step.

The Scenario Builder enables you to define the default values for theRicoh digital front end settings in the Digital Output step of thescenario via the Advanced button.

RBA was updated to include the main Ricoh digital front endcapabilities as well.

Note: Parameters set in the Digital Output scenario step are sent to the Ricohdigital press to be applied there and do not affect the parameters set in the

Known bugs and limitations

This section lists bugs and limitations that are known to exist in thesoftware. If a future version of the software resolves a bug listed here, the bug is moved to the Fixed bugs section of the release notesaccompanying that version of the software.

Workspace UI of Prinergy WorkflowWorkspace is a new user interface for Prinergy that is currentlysupported for the job types listed below. Workshop remains the mainproduction interface for Prinergy while we expand the capabilities ofWorkspace to cover a wider range of job types and eventually replacesome of the user interface components of Workshop. PrinergyWorkspace 7.0.1 is currently supported for:

● Folded and flat work (double-sided and single-sided) commercialand publication jobs with single sections

● Ganging, multi-section, and other complex impositions using Prepsedits only

Note: For a complete list of Workspace limitations, see answer 70194 on PartnerPlace.

Windows Server 2008 x64 operating system

The following limitations have been identified for running Prinergyusing the Windows Server 2008 x64 operating system:

● Not all legacy Kodak computer-to-plate (CTP) devices havecontrolled release software that is compatible with Windows 2008.Contact your Kodak representative to confirm if your CTP devicehas a Windows-Server-2008-compatible controlled releasesoftware available.

● Services for Apple Macintosh does not work with Windows Server2008. You must use SMB with named forks, or Group LogicExtremeZ-IP instead.

● SMB3 support—although Prinergy 7.0.1 supports Windows 2012 fora tertiary server, full SMB3 support will be available only when allPrinergy servers (primary, secondary, and tertiary) operate onWindows 2012 in Prinergy 7.5.

Network File System connectivity

Prinergy does not support The Open Group UNIX NFS (Open GroupUNIX Network File System). You can access UNIX servers using anSMB/CIFS protocol installed on the server (such as SAMBA).

Integration with ColorFlow

The following limitations have been identified for using the ColorFlowsoftware with Prinergy:

● Pages added to a ColorFlow-enabled job using Prinergy's BypassRefine will have undefined Color Setup. This is expected behavior.Refining with ColorConvert enabled is recommended withColorFlow integration.

● If you attempt to output a file with a different snapshot numberfrom the number you defined in the refine process template, anerror message appears.

ColorConvert

The following ColorConvert problems have been identified:

● ColorMatch vector overprint handling of certain files withtransparency groups that also use overprint management cangenerate unexpected results. The new objects generated by theColorMatcher vector overprint handling process end up ruining theappearance. Contone proofing with raster overprint handling cannotbe used to predict the problem with vector overprint handling usedon final output. See the Prinergy help for detailed descriptions about

the processing differences between raster and vector overprinthandling. [PRINERGY-29131]

● Profile pair RGB-to-CMYK color conversions using a version 2 ICCsource profile and a version 4 ICC destination profile results in acontaminated white point. The problem most frequently occurs withColorFlow integration because version 4 device profiles aregenerated by ColorFlow by default.

Workaround: Change the ColorFlow preferences to generateversion 2 compatible profiles.

● ColorConvert Vector overprint handling of transparency effect withsoft masks can result in significant changes in appearance. Colormatching certain files with multiply transparency effects can alsoresult in significant changes in appearance. The latter problem is filespecific and is dependent on the object's color and the DeviceLinkor ICC profile used to color convert the objects. The problem occursbecause each graphic and image object used in the transparencygroup is color converted separately. Blending of the objects in thedestination color space changes the appearance.[ PRINERGY-35332] [PRINERGY-35335]

Workaround: Flatten the PDF files. Contone proofing cannot beused to predict these issues when color-matching is performed onfinal output.

Preflight+

● Preflight+ is currently not supported in Insite software.

● Callas processplans and profiles that create layers or containunlicensed DeviceLinks are not supported.

● Kodak does not support or provide a license of callas pdfToolboxsoftware. However, a copy of pdfToolbox (Preflight+ profilemanager) is provided and licensed solely for the purpose of editingand creating preflight profiles that are to be used within Prinergy.Modification of the license as well as changing or upgrading theversion of Callas pdfToolbox that is provided with Prinergy is notrecommended and not supported by Kodak.

● Report Page links are supported only when you copy the full report.

● callas fix-ups are "use at own risk". Exercise extra caution and checkyour proofs closely when applying fix-ups.

● callas Profiles and Prinergy support different variations of theChinese character set.

○ Simplified = ZH_CN (callas) = PRC

○ Simplified = ZH_Hans (Prinergy) = South East Asia andSingapore

Known bugs and limitations 19

● Higher disk space demands—each PDF report contains a copy ofthe original Input PDF file.

● Preflight+ fails during refine if the job name contains double-bytecharacters (accented or Asian glyphs). A drop-in fix for this issue isavailable from the Kodak Response Center. [PRINERGY-37882]

Adobe PDF Print Engine limitations

The Adobe PDF Print Engine (APPE) RIP cannot process PDF filescontaining embedded PostScript objects, including pages that wereprocessed with PostScript bypass or with the OPI bypass features ofPrinergy.

The APPE RIP is the preferred RIP for Prinergy.

Observe the following precautions:

● Proofs and plates: In plating jobs with the APPE RIP, be careful withplates that were proofed with the previous APPE RIP. Because theRIPs are different, there is a slight chance of an interpretationdifference between proof and plate. Ideally, jobs should be platedwith the same version of Prinergy that was used to generate theproofs.

Note: To avoid this situation you should coordinate hub and spokeconfigurations when upgrading Prinergy.

● Reprints: For reprints of jobs that were printed previously using anolder RIP, it is recommended that you rerun proofs using the newRIP to ensure there are no unforeseen differences between theoriginal press run and the reprint.

Maxtone CX, Maxtone FX, and Maxtone NX RIP limitations

Kodak Maxtone CX, Maxtone FX, and Maxtone SX screens areavailable for APPE RIP only. They are not available for use with CPSIRIP.

Register of a versioned page fails after the page has beenopened in Acrobat on a Mac

If you open an LPV page in Acrobat and then re-generate it, theRegister step will fail with an access violation message. This onlyhappens when dealing with Windows 2008 servers and if the PDF hasbeen opened on a Mac. [PRINERGY-29349]

Workaround: Unmount the Mac share.
