To be able to conjugate verbs, you must know your subject pronouns. Review below.

Singular Plural • yo=I nosotros/nosotras =we • tú=you (familiar) vosotros/vosotras=you guys

(informal in Spain)• él=he ellos-they (all guys/mixed)

• ella=she ellas-they (girls)• usted (Ud.)-(you formal) ustedes (Uds.)=you all

(formal in Spain)

• *Vosotros(as) is only used in Spain.

There is no word for “it” in Spanish as a subject.

If you want to use an object or a place as the subject, use the él, ella, Ud. form of the verb when conjugating.

• Verbs end in either -ar, -er, or –ir• Infinitives are generic verb forms with no

tense and no subject. • An infinitive verb means “to plus a verb”. • For example, trabajar means “to work”.

Verb conjugation• Conjugating means changing the verb ending to

reflect tense and also having a subject. The subject often is the person doing the action.

For example: To say “I prepare dinner every day,”change preparar (to prepare) to (Yo) preparo la cena todos los días.

• In Spanish, almost every verb has a different ending, so the subject pronouns are often omitted. They can be used for emphasis or clarification.
