Massage Therapy CertificateContinuing Education

This 500-hour certificate program (460 classroom hours, 40 clinical hours) encompasses the requirements necessary to obtain licensure as a licensed massage therapist (LMT) in the state of South Carolina. Upon completion of this program, candidates are eligible to take the national certification examination, MBLEx (Federation of State Massage Therapy Boards), and apply for state licensure once receiving a passing score.

Learn a range of massage techniques, including basic spa and neuromuscular clinical massage. The curriculum covers the fundamentals of human anatomy and physiology, massage law and ethics, kinesiology, and practical application of spa and neuromuscular technique. Students also practice acquired techniques in a hands-on clinical setting.

Where can you work as an LMT? Typically, LMTs find positions in spas, chiropractic offices, pain management centers, other medical facilities and also through self-employment.

Prerequisites: Provide proof of high school diploma or GED and that you are 18 years of age or older.

Books are not included in the course fee. They can be purchased for an additional cost at the TTC bookstore and include: “Massage Therapy, Principles and Practice Fifth Edition” by Susan S. Salvo, approximately $50; and “Structural Balancing, A Clinical Approach” by Kyle Wright, approximately $75.

Additional supplies are needed and are not included in the course fee: Students need to have one or two sets of twin sheets for classroom training sessions; flat sheets, fitted sheets, pillowcases and blankets are recommended.

Dress code: Students are required to wear a solid color shirt with khaki or black pants and closed-toe shoes.
