AboutNZCAM
TheNewZealandCollegeofAppearanceMedicine(NZCAM)
is the official College representing Appearance Medicine
Physicians.
Through the development of best ‘standards’ of practice,
NZCAM has developed a rigorous training programme
for aspiring Appearance Medicine Physicians as well as a
programme for the ongoing assessment of Appearance
MedicinePractitioners.

Lee iscurrentlyDirectorof theMedicalPhysicsDepartment
atWestmeadHospital.Hisinterestsareinlaserandionising
radiationsafety,radiology,andnuclearmedicine.
HehasworkedinhospitalsinAustraliaandtheUK,andduring
a research appointment in Germany, became interested in
laser applications in medicine. He now lectures on medical
laser technology, bioeffects and safety, is Chairman of
the Standards Australia medical laser committee (which is
responsible for AS/NZS 4173), and is involved with drafting
international laser safety standards for the International
ElectrotechnicalCommissionasanAustralianrepresentative.

cosmetic dermatology and the treatment of acne and acne

Dr Michael Kane
Dr Kane is a noted plastic surgeon who has lectured
internationally at the forefront of both non-surgical facial
rejuvenation and innovative minimal downtime cosmetic
surgicalprocedures.Dr.KanegraduatedfromtheJefferson
Medical College five year Program in Cooperative Medical
Education, attaining both his undergraduate degree and
medicaldegree inonlyfiveyears.Hewasamemberof the
HobartHareHonorSocietyinmedicalschool.Dr.Kanethen
completedageneralsurgeryresidencyatNewYorkMedical
College.
This residency was based at Lincoln Hospital which was at
theepicenteroftheurbanviolencewhichplaguedtheSouth
Bronxintheeighties. Whilethisviolencewastragicforthe
residents of that area, it afforded Dr Kane a tremendous
amount of surgical experience that he would not have
receivedanywhereelse.

Dr Kane’s plastic surgical training consisted of a residency
at Wright State University and the fellowship at Manhattan
Eye,Ear&ThroatHospital. Duringthisfellowship,DrKane
studied under several of the nation’s pre-eminent cosmetic

DrSafariisagraduateofOtagoUniversitywithgreatinterest
inresearch.ShehasworkedasamedicalregistrarinDunedin
PublicHospitalfollowedbyyearsofexperienceasaGP.She
opened the first permanent Appearance Medicine clinic in
Dunedin.
Dr Safari has a special interest in photo-therapeutic
appearancemedicinetechniques,includinglasers,IPL,PDT,
beingthefirsttointroduceLED-assistedPDTtothecity.
During her medical studies she won the Renshaw prize in
medical research, set up computer-assisted learning for
medical students (which was presented at ANZAME in
MonashUniversityasapilottobeused inmedicalschools)
and set up a computer data base for blood transfusion in
DunedinPublicHospital.
Herthesisformastersinsciencewastheroleofcell-mediated
immunity and interleukines in immune system and her PhD
thesis was on the effect of prostaglandins presented at a
physiologyconferenceinVenice,Italy.Sheisoneofthefirst
graduates of NZCAM and in the past five years has been
workingonPDT.

HisfellowshipoftheRoyalAustralasianCollegeofSurgeons

Refund applications will not be considered until post-
conference.If,forreasonsbeyondthecontrolofNZCAM,the
conferenceiscancelled,theregistrationfeewillberefunded
afterdeductionofexpensesalreadyincurred.

Cancellation policy
Should you need to cancel your registration, you may reassign
your registration to another person. Please notify the Conference
Manager in writing. If you are unable to arrange a replacement,
a full refund less and administration charge of $100 will be made
providing notification is received by Wednesday 15 August
2012. After this date, refunds are at the discretion of NZCAM.
If, for reasons beyond the control of NZCAM, the conference is
cancelled, the registration fee will be refunded after deduction of
expenses already incurred.
