History, Experience and Objectives

Design Collaborative Private Limited was formed in 2009 by a group of break-away senior

professionals from the established Design Consultancy firm Auroservice, Pondicherry,

India.

Through the years Auroservice had delivered many landmark projects in the southern

states of India, including Townships for the Steel Authority of India, Rastriya Ispat

Nigam Limited, Tata Steel, Major Hospitals, in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala,

Maharashtra and Orissa, Several Universities and Colleges and Commercial, research and

manufacturing facilities.

Client satisfaction continues to be the focus of this young and talented firm as has been

practiced by its principal in the more than two decades of his leadership at Auroservice.

The company has made a conscious decision to limit the growth of the firm to a size that

can give the kind of personalized service that has made Auroservice successful over the

years. Instead of growth in size, Design Collaborative has concentrated its efforts on

bringing some of the best professionals into the collaborative process of design in

making it more efficient and responsive to the client's needs.

The past experience of the principals and the staff has given the ability to interpret the

needs and desires of different clients. We have been designing Housing, Educational and

Healthcare facilities for a long time. Familiarity with these disciplines of design and the

technical capabilities and professional competence of Design Collaborative is best

illustrated by examining our present client list, acquired fifteen months of operations,

which includes GITAM University Visakhapatnam, Medical Trust Hospital Cochin,

Pondicherry Institute of Medical Sciences, Aravind Eye care system, Aurowell health

system, GRT Hotels & Resorts.

THE FOUNDERS

Israel Gnanaraj

‘IG’ obtained his degree in Architecture from the University of Moratuwa, Srilanka in 1983.

He moved to Pondicherry in September 1983 and joined Auroservice D’Auroville trust as a Junior

Architect. He was made chief design coordinator in 1987 and became chief of the ADAT in 1989. In

2000 he founded Auroservice Private Limited with others. He was Managing Director of Auroservice

till he resigned in 2009 to start Design Collaborative. He has specialized in HealthCare facilities and

Institutional design. He has led multidisciplinary design teams and delivered many complex projects

including Townships, Healthcare facilities, Hotels, Swimming Pools, Pharmaceutical manufacturing

facilities. Stadias, Educational institutes, University campuses etc. He is the founder President of IIA

Pondicherry Center and serves as advisory consultant to many agencies. He is founder vice president

of CDD society on NGO propagating decentralized waste management.

Mary John Kurian

‘Mary’ obtained her degree in Architecture in 1984 from Kerala University, India. She gained

valuable experience in leading Architectural offices in Chennai and Goa before setting up her own

practice in Goa in 1990. She has designed churches, Five star Hotels, Interiors, Industrial buildings for

multinational companies and commercial buildings. She also worked on renovation of old

Portuguese houses. In 2003 moved to Hyderabad and established her practice and was a visiting

faculty at JNTU, Architecture Department till she moved to Pondicherry in 2005. She Joined

Auroservice and worked as Chief Architect till 2009.Presentaly she is in -charge of the Chennai office

of Design Collaborative Private Limited.

Karpagam Venkatraman

‘Karpagam’ a graduate in Architecture (1993) from Kerala University , worked with leading

firms in Chennai for a year. Then moved to Pondicherry and joined Auroservice and worked there

and later had her own practice, concentrating on Industrial and Residential projects and interiors.

She is also an accomplished pianist.

Dr. Dondeti Bhanuprasad

‘Bhanu’ completed his degree in civil Engineering in 1981 from Bangalore University, India

and obtained his Ph.D in Structural Engineering from Indian Institute of Science, India in 1988. He is a

designer, teacher and a researcher. He has been consulting from 1988 and has taken up teaching in

addition to consulting at graduate, Postgraduate and Doctoral levels since 2002. He has published

papers in reputed journals. He specializes in structural design in RCC & steel. He is a member of

many professional bodies, and advisor to the Indian Navy and several organizations.

P. Sahayaraj

‘Sahayaraj’ completed his degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from the Guindy

Engineering College, Chennai, India. Started his Career as a trainee with Bharath Heavy Electricals-

India, Joined the ministry of Defence, Govt. of India and served as Manager Electrical services till

1994. From then onwards, he has been a consulting Engineer and has handled design and

supervision of Electrical, Communication and data networks for campus, Industrial, commercial,

Institutional and Research facilities.
