About the Workshop
Electric power systems are complex dynamical systems undergoing rapid changes due to de-regulation, environmental concerns and technological innovations marking a shift to a new regime. This change is leading to increased integration of renewable energy resources, energy storage devices, power electronics based technologies and adoption of efficient communication and controls. While the challenges facing the electric power industry due to these changes are substantial, there are also significant opportunities for improvement. Distributed resources, if integrated under appropriate interconnection standards, in micro-grids, or in smart distribution systems, offer the potential to improve grid reliability and resilience. Debate is on as to whether the present day power system will transform incrementally, or will evolutionary leaps be unleashed. Are there leapfrog opportunities that employ new technologies, policies, and business models?
To address some of these issues, this workshop will provide a platform for an in-depth interactive discussion among electric utility personnel, policy makers, managers, researchers, industry leaders and academia with well-known experts from across the globe.
Topics for discussion include
• Recent developments in operation and control ofpower systems with integration of renewable energy.
• Smart grid operation, control and stability.
• Micro-grids
• Recent trends in power system protection.
• AI applications to power systems operation and control.
• Future trends driving power system evolution
