Codes and convention for contents page

• A lot of them are double pages with a bit down the side for the editors.

• They all have 4 or more photos on the page, with the page number on the pictures. Most of them use direct mode of address to build a relationship with the reader (uses and gratification theory)

• They have a neat layout, with the contents broke down under different headers.

• They have white backgrounds with black text. There is much colour other than in the pictures.

• They have the page numbers at the bottom of the page.

• Giving you just a bit of information on each section so you want more(Barthes action code)

• Most of the pages are layed out so you start at the top and read down- narrative conventions

• Use of hermeneutic codes to make you want to read on to find out more information.

Page 10: Regional magazine content

From looking at the magazines I wish to carry forward...

• I would carry forward having my contents page on a double page spread.

• I will have at least 3 pictures on my contents page to make it more appealing, with numbers on the pictures.

• I will use studio shot photos.

• My page will be full of information and will be broken up under different headings.

• They will be layed out so you naturally start reading from the top and then go down narrative conventions.
