Dear Region 3,
Once again, accept my wishes to you each for a Happy, Heathy, and Courageous 2016! Allow me to share yet another example of inspiration for 2016, “A Nurse and a New Year,” by Sonja Mitrevska-Schwartzbach, a writer and nurse (attached). Along with my CAT goals to the right, my hubby and I are planning to attend the Northern New Jersey Chapter’s Options conference in April, and I also hope to visit NEPA next FY.
The new year quickly became active beginning January 11th with our Web-meeting with Nursing Network’s Dan Cohen. Those on the call were provided with lots of information and an opportunity to ask questions.
All AACN members are welcome to join Nursing Network for free. There you are able to FOLLOW participating Chapters from a central location. My group page looks as such…
Establishing an optional chapter website with Nursing Network is also free. As you can see, several of our Region 3 Chapters are pursuing these sites - some well established and others are beginners.
Fees come into play when using services such as membership management and conference ticketing.
Chapters often express these needs and boards find themselves weighing costs and resources such as time and manpower when determining the
feasibility of utilizing such a service to streamline and unify these processes. Let me know if you have questions about Nursing Network or if you would like to set up an individual session with Dan.

A personal purr from your CAT... We are all “National.” There is no “us” and “them.” Each of us are National AACN members. Our National office is comprised of dedicated staff with member and chapter best interests at heart. Let AACN know if they are doing a good job. Survey open through February 10th. Please communicate if you know of a way that our Association may improve upon practices and resources. In doing so, feel welcome to channel chapter inquires by me first. I can direct your questions or concerns as most applicable. When I provide feedback, Karen Certalic and my co-leaders are most always copied and will expand upon my responses or clarify if needed.
Thank you for abiding to the AACN Chapter Charter requirement to communicate with your chapter advisor. If you’ve not reached out recently, or ever, please touch base quarterly either via email or phone. Chapter questions often revolve around contracts. Kenneth Brooks, Region 2’s Advisor provides the following clarification on contracts: Contracts exist to limit the liability for your chapter and National. They are required whenever the
chapter has a fiduciary responsibility.
For example: Your chapter wants Dapper Dan to speak at your chapter meeting. The chapter plans
to pay Dapper Dan for his appearance, and will rent a meeting room at the local hotel and order
food from the hotel for the members. Your chapter needs a contract with Dapper Dan, and a
contract with the hotel.
Another example: Gizmos-R-Us wants to speak at your monthly meeting. They will pay the hotel
directly for a meeting room, they will pay their speaker, and they will pay for any food the members
order during the presentation. Although a contract would be nice with Gizmos-R-Us, it is not
needed, since the chapter does not have a responsibility to pay for anything. Be aware, however,
that should Gizmos-R-Us cancel, your chapter won’t have the meeting room, a speaker, or free
food. If the chapter wants to proceed with the meeting, you would need a contract with the hotel.
All chapter contracts must have two chapter signatures: (1) chapter president, and (2) chapter
treasurer or the appropriate chairperson.
• Keep the fully signed agreement with your chapter education records for 4 years. Electronic
files are acceptable.
• Be sure to submit other contracts related to this event for review/approval per the Chapter
Contract & Grant Policy.
• Please note and keep track of all payment and cancellation deadlines for this event.
