INTRODUCTIONIn order to be a Registered Architectural Ironmonger, RegAI members of the Institute of Architectural Ironmongers must either gain or maintain their status each calendar year period. During this time each individual must collect 10 CPD points which must be recorded on their log sheet.

COMPULSORY COURSEWORK

Please bear in mind that the only compulsory CPD activity set out in the programme is the answering of both the Compulsory coursework papers on the GAI Education Hub which are based on the Compulsory CPD presentations.Members must pass these with a minimum of 80%. Each compulsory coursework paper will be worth one CPD point. There will also be an optional coursework paper, which will be worth one point.

All other activities including attendance at Compulsory CPD Branch meetings will be worth one point.

CATEGORIES OF LEARNINGThe 10 CPD points are to be made up by a minimum of 6 points from Category 1 and the remainder from Category 2.

Category 1 contains Coursework, both compulsory and optionalCPD PresentationsTraining Activities

Category 2 encompasses other learning activities as methods of personal development.

GAI COMPULSORY CPD TOPICSThe GAI produced compulsory CPD presentation topics for 2020 are as follows: (2 points per activity) this includes viewing in branch or online through education hub.• Product development and sourcing - This

presentation will look at the production process, developing and sourcing a product for market and advice on issues relating to branding

• Door Construction, assembly, doorset/assembly third party testing with accreditation and processes. This presentation will review differing types of doors, the differentials between doorsets and assemblies as well studying third party certification

GAI CORE CPD TOPICSThe GAI core CPD presentation topics for 2020 are as follows: (1 point per activity to view in Branch or download presentation from Education Hub)

Å Fire Safety, Risk Management and Responsibilities. This presentation will detail an overview of relevant legislation and regulatory requirements, look at the dangers of dilution of specification of product and also potential consequences of ignoring risk in specification.

• Completion of RegAI Compulsory course workbook/testswith 80%+ pass mark to be obtained.

• Note that it is a condition of RegAI membership that bothCompulsory Coursework papers must be completed andpassed.

• Completion of Optional course workbook/test with 80%+ pass to be obtained

• Optional Coursework will be based on Core topic ofFire Safety, Risk Management and Responsibilities

CATEGORY 1 (CONTINUED)CPD PRESENTATIONS CPD points can be gained from attending CPD presentations at any Branch of the IAI Branch Network. This can be in the form of Compulsory, Core or Branch Choice presentations. They can also be obtained from downloading and watching Core and Compulsory video presentations from the GAI Education Hub Equally, CPD presentations from external organisations such as RIBA will also qualify for points.

In addition, presenting a CPD, either to an architect's practice, or to an industry audience will also qualify, It should be noted that in order to qualify for more than one point, each presentation must not be on the same topic. Verification will be required in the form of emails or calling notices.

• Provision of industry related training such as lecturing atGAI Classroom courses

• Provision of industry related in-house training seminars

• Provision of industry related external training seminar

• Attendance at industry related in house training seminars

• Attendance at industry related external training seminars

• Provision of training material for courses such as DipGAI,FDIS or RegAI

TRAINING QUALIFYING ACTIVITIES: (1 point per activity)

Equally, points can be received for those who receive training, either in-house or from external providers. For those who provide training material for courses such as DipGAI, FDIS, RegAI, points will also be awarded.

CATEGORY 1 (CONTINUED)TRAINING

CPD points are allowed for those who train as well as those who are being trained. Trainers can receive CPD points for activities such as providing training at in-house, external or GAI Seminars.

• Attendance at Industry related Committee meetings, such asCEN, BSI, DHF.

• Attendance at industry related trade shows or exhibitions.

• Attendance at Industry related factory tours.

• Download and view of industry related webinars fromrelevant bodies such as RIBA or BSI.

• Reading of Industry related published articles on relevantmatters such as regulations or standards.

• Writing of industry related published articles such as AIJ,Locksmiths Journal.

CATEGORY 2 PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT ACTIVITIES This category allows for a number of different ways of gaining CPD points, all of which are linked to personal development. This can include attending a number of differing industry related activities such as factory visits or trade shows, so long as you feel that there is an educational benefit to doing so.

It is also possible to download and view webinars on industry related topics. These topics can include BSI and Brexit, CEN standards and BIM. Contact GAI for further details on where to source these.

Reading of industry related published articles including AIJ or GAI Technical Briefings and Guides to Standards are also acceptable although full details on articles read will be required as verification.Writing of industry related published articles in relevant publications such as AIJ, Door Industry Journal or Locksmiths Journal is also acceptable.
