Preparation for Parenthood
New Daddy Class
Expectant and new dads learn about keepingtheir children safe and well and how to care for awell or sick child. You will learn about the impor-tance and impact of your involvement in yourchild’s life and learn effective ways for stayinginvolved. This one-evening class is taught by ahealthcare provider and father of two children.This class is offered the last Thursday of everyother month from 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM.
Sibling Class
This class - My Baby & Me Program - (Ages 2-8years old) - is designed to prepare brothers andsisters for the new baby. The importance ofsiblings in the growing family, their self-worth,and their role in the new baby’s life is stressed.
A tour of the Mother-Baby units is included inthis class.
Grandparents Class
This class has been designed to give you helpfulguidelines about the latest in childbirth practices,child rearing and feeding methods. A newborn’sneeds have not changed dramatically; howeverthe accessories, products and health practicesfor caring for a baby have. This class will reviewimportant tips for keeping children safe andsecure.
Class is offered every three months on aThursday.

We believe that prepared parents are ableto participate and share more in all phases of thebirth and development of their child.

Prenatal Yoga/Exercise ClassExpectant moms may register for our prenatalPlease register for our prenatal yoga class early inyour pregnancy. This class is held once or twice aweek for four consecutive weeks. During this classyou will explore breathing techniques, basicpostures, meditation and deep relaxationspecifically designed for expectant mothers.
Come prepared to stretch and strengthen yourmuscles. No previous yoga experience is necessary.
Prepared Childbirth
This series of classes cover all aspects of thelater part of pregnancy, labor, delivery and thepost-delivery period. Areas of instruction include:the general principles of relaxation; support per-son’s role; focusing and breathing techniques;medications and anesthesia; and comfort meas-ures to be used during labor.
All instructors are certified childbirth educators.
Our classes are offered at a variety of times in theevening and on weekends for your convenience.
Prepared childbirth classes should be taken duringthe last two months of pregnancy, but earlyregistration is absolutely necessary.
Hypnobirth ClassThe techniques that are taught in this five-weekseries of classes and the power of positive thinkingcan be used to enhance your body’s ability to givebirth naturally. Hypnobirthing classes are anexcellent choice for the expectant woman who islooking for a natural approach to birthing andprefers not to use medication or anesthesia duringlabor. This series of classes is taught by a nursewho is a certified hypnobirth instructor. Class isoffered on Wednesdays 6:30-9:00 PM. Space islimited so please register by your sixth month ofpregnancy.
Refresher CourseThis two-night course is offered only for thosecouples who have completed a prepared childbirthclass during a previous pregnancy and need arefresher.
Marvelous MultiplesExpecting more than one child? This is the classfor you. This program consists of three, Mondayevening sessions or one weekend day session.You and your partner will learn about healthylifestyles, stress management and the physicaland emotional challenges of having more than onechild. You will receive valuable information aboutpreparation for labor, delivery and recovery. This isalso a good opportunity to meet other parentsexperiencing multiple births. Please register inyour second trimester.
Baby Care
This class is for expectant and adopting parentsand consists of two evening classes held oncea month on a Monday, or one class held once amonth on a Saturday morning. Class topicsinclude: the appearance and behavior of thenewborn at birth; feeding the baby (breast orbottle); care of the newborn; adjustments toparenthood; car seat safety; and practical tips onclothing, furniture and equipment. Demonstrationsand information on giving a baby a bath, infantfeeding and safety are included. This class shouldbe taken about the seventh month of pregnancy.
Breastfeeding Your Baby
This class is designed for expectant parents whoare considering breastfeeding. You will learn thebenefits of breastfeeding for the baby and themother; how the lactating breast functions;positioning techniques that are most helpful;proper latch; and signs of adequate hydration.
Also included, for those women returning to work,is information on breast pumps and the properstorage of breast milk.
