Thank you to all of the residents who came out to this year’s 40th Founder’s Day celebration. We had sunny skies and a nice cool breeze. There was plenty to do for all ages. Amy from FuNOLOGY101 provid-ed the awesome face painting. Melas italian ice cart had many flavors that they were scooping up. Edges
Photography was there taking can-dids and provided the photo booth for everyone to enjoy. Be sure to check out Edges website, http://edges.zen-folio.com to see all of the Founder’s Day pictures. Tim horton’s Coffee Cruiser provided courtesy ice coffee and frozen hot chocolate which was a crowd favorite!! The children had fun visiting the smokehouse-Public education Trailer & the Ambulance. Pierre Esprit Radisson entertained the crowd with his stories of his past explorations. The Onondaga County sheriff’s Department was busy doing the children’s fingerprinting & safety iD’s. Letizia and the Z-Band came on at 6:30 pm and kept the crowd dancing and entertained until the fireworks. PYROTECNiCO fireworks provid-ed a magnificent 20 minute display of fireworks to end the evening with many cheers from the spectators!! A big thank you to our Founder’s Day

Thank you to the many volunteers who came out to help cook, serve or pour beer and to our youth workers and volunteers for making sure the children’s activities ran smoothly. Also, a thank you to the RCA Office staff for help-ing out with the grill, food & drink tents. A huge thank you to the Maintenance Department for helping us with the set-up and clean-up of this event. Last but not least, many thanks to the Belgium Cold springs Fire Department; Greater Baldwinsville Ambulance Corps and the Onondaga County sheriff’s Department for being a part of this event to help ensure the safety of all our spectators.

The Board of Directors held their Annual O r g a n i z a t i o n a l Meeting in July, which brings
together the incoming and outgo-ing board members to discuss and transition any ongoing issues facing the community. Also at that meeting, the officers for this year’s board are elected. The officers of this year RCA Board are: Doug Beachel, President; Tom Dietrich, Vice-President; Jay Caporiccio, Treasurer; Bill Lester, secretary. Thank you to them, and the other board members, for their service to the community!
We’ve received many positive comments from residents about this year’s landscaping projects. The first to be completed was the land-scaping around the Radisson entrance wall at Drakes Landing Road and Route 31. The Radisson entrance wall was installed last fall and landscaping was not able to be completed until this year. We also made much-needed land-scaping improvements to the exterior of the RCA Office. The work was com-pleted by CGM Property services and they did an outstanding job. Below are before and after photos of each loca-
tion to see the changes!As mentioned in a previous article,
the Town of Lysander is scheduled to do roadwork on Drakes Landing Road and East Patrol Road this summer. They will be doing a Cold in Place Recycling project on Drakes Landing Road, similar to the work done on Glacier Ridge Road last summer. It is anticipated that this project will take about a week to complete and has been pushed back to a start date of mid to late August. They are also planning to complete a cold mix paving and stone and oil project on East Patrol Road. When the RCA Office receives an update as to when these projects will commence, we will be sending out an eMail Bulletin to the Community News group.
Time seems to flying by at an alarm-ing speed this summer, unfortunately as it always seems to. Although some our summer activities and events are done, there are many activities that are still available. The Oberon Pool is available for open swim and has special times allotted for lap swim-ming only. session iV swim lessons begin on August 11 and water aero-bics continues through August 15. The Oberon Pool doesn’t close until Labor Day (last day open is september 1), so
take advantage of it and enjoy summer swimming opportuni-ties right through to the end of summer!
What a wonderful celebra-tion our Founder’s Day event was this year. When the skies opened up right before the event we were very concerned that it would cause a lower than expected attendance. But, that was clearly not the case. The rains did not dampen any-one’s spirit and the community came out in droves to celebrate. Thank you, again, to everyone that had a part in making the day go so smoothly!

Summer RECThis summer
has gone by way too quickly! Even though we’ve had to cancel REC a few times due to the
weather, we definitely had our fair share of sunny and humid days. There were a lot of water bottles on hot days and a lot of jackets on cold days. We have many of these items in our lost & found at the RCA Office!
The campers loved the Fisheries
Outreach specialist from the state Department of Environmental Conservation! he taught the campers many cool new things about fish and even let them practice casting, deem-ing them biologists for the day. super hero Day was a huge hit with the campers and counselors. The Talent show was very entertaining and there is a lot of talent amongst our campers.
One of our favorite days at REC is Carnival Day, and boy was it fun! We had DJ Brett Maring playing some jams, an inflatable obstacle course, car-nival games and the all-time favorite the Counselor Dunk Tank!!
The REC Olympics also turned out wonderfully. The kids competed for
a chance at bragging rights for next year. The final results were: 1st place-hannah & Danny’s Pink Bandits, 2nd place-Matt & Paulina’s Black Ninjas and 3rd Place-Dan & Connor’s Red hot Chili Peppers! Congratulations to all participants. The team spirit was great to see and everyone was a good sport.
Thank you for all of these excit-ing days at REC, each one different and fun. This has been my sixth year involved with this program and it may also be my last. it’s amazing how fast it seems to have gone by, but when i look back, i have countless memories of REC. Going through the program myself as a kid, i remember many
counselors who had an impact on who i am today. i wish the campers the best of luck at school and in their futures. They have made this “job” unbelievably worthwhile.

Appointments are required and can be scheduled Monday - Friday, from 6:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Environmental Products and services of Vermont (532 state Fair Boulevard, syracuse). Make an appointment online or call 453-2866. Only toxic items from households are accepted. see the full list of acceptable items on OCRRA’s website ocrra.org.
This is no fee for this service; OCRRA underwrites the cost of proper toxics disposal through revenue generated at our Drop-Off sites;
the sale of electricity generated from trash at the Waste-to-Energy Facility; and a grant from
the NYs DEC.Acceptable items include:
Automotive products such as transmission or brake fluid, engine degreaser, anti-freeze, diesel fuel, gas cans, and contaminated gasoline. Cleaning supplies, such as oven cleaner, drain cleaner, lye, toilet bowl cleaner, floor and furniture polish, mothballs and products containing petroleum. Garden supplies and pesticides. Painting supplies, including OiL-BAsED paints, stains, or finishes, paint thinner, turpentine, brush cleaner, paint stripper, and wood preservatives. Place empty oil-based, latex or aerosol paint cans in your trash. (NOTE: Latex paint is not accepted.) Miscellaneous products,
such as fluorescent light bulbs, pool chemicals, lighter fluid, kerosene, driveway sealer, mercury thermometers and thermostats, nail polish remover, smoke detectors, loose asbestos that has been double bagged, and any product whose label has descriptions such as toxic, flammable, poisonous, or corrosive.
Important Safety Tips1. Keep items in their original
containers. secure all lids and caps.
2. Line a cardboard box with a large plastic bag; place your materials in the box.
3. stuff crumpled paper between containers so nothing tips over in transit.
4. store the box in a well-ventilated place, if you are pre-packing the box.
5. For safety sake: Do not transport household hazardous waste with pets or children and please refrain from smoking.
These items are NOT accepted as part of this program: Latex paint, motor oil, propane tanks, batteries, fire extinguishers, pharmaceuticals and non-hazardous waste. Latex paint can be disposed of properly by drying out the paint with paint drying crystals, available at local hardware stores, or with kitty litter. Medications can be rendered disposable by treating them with an undesirable substance such as coffee grounds, cat litter, or ashes, and placing in a container in your trash.
Town of Lysander Joins eWaste Alliance PartnershipThe NYs Electronic Equipment Recycling and Reuse Act was signed into law on May 28, 2010. This gives every New Yorker the opportunity to recycle their electronic waste in an environmentally responsible manner and the Town of Lysander will be offering FREE Drop-off of the following electronic equipment:
Computers, Televisions, Small scale servers, Monitors, Keyboards and mice, Fax machines, Scanners, Printers, VCR’S, DVR’s, Portable digital Music Players, DVD players, Digital converter boxes, Cable or satellite receiv-ers, Electronic or video game consoles.
You can drop any of these items off on Monday through Friday during regular business hours at the Lysander High-way Department Office located at 2730 W. Entry Road. (Directly across from the Radisson Ice Arena).
