Aspen House is truly a multi-use facility. From Radisson Nursery School to RCA meetings and events to resident parties, it’s a very busy place! This rental option is available only to Radisson residents and Corporate Park members, and it couldn’t be more convenient.

We continue to make facility improvements to keep Aspen House fresh and up to date. The new carpet on the other side of the room provides lots of seating, an area for kids games or tables for a presentation. From The Executive Director Written by Lynn Tanner, CMCA, AMS

As men-tioned in the last issue of the Ref lect ions ,

I’m pleased to tell you the ten-nis courts at Carpenter Road have been striped for pick-leball play! On Wednesdays from 3:00pm to 7:00pm and Fridays from 7:30am to 11:30am, the Carpenter Road tennis courts will be desig-nated only for pickleball play. RCA staff will set up the tem-porary pickleball nets prior to and remove them after each of those sessions. The RCA also has a set of paddles and balls available for loan, for those interested in trying out this new amenity. These items will be available at the RCA Office, on a first-come, first-serve basis, during pickle-ball hours only. You must have your Radisson Photo ID to bor-row the equipment. During pickleball times, tennis players are asked to utilize one of the other tennis courts.

Our Annual Founder’s Day Celebration was another huge success this year! A special thanks to Jeanine Downes, Director of Community Programs and the Recreation Committee for their hard work! I would also like to thank this year’s sponsors who helped to make this event a huge suc-cess. Please see the complete list of this year’s sponsors on page 6. Their support helps us to minimize the expense that comes with putting on such a large event.

Earlier this month, the Town of Lysander Engineer brought to the Town Board’s attention the multiple com-plaints they’ve received over the years regarding speed and pedestrian safety, specifi-cally around Kerri Hornaday Park. This area receives heavy pedestrian traffic, especially during the RCA Summer Rec program. Our program has over 200 children enrolled, many of them attending on a

daily basis, accessing the park by crossing Deep Glade Drive. Unfortunately, attempts to lower the speed on this road have not been success-ful. The Town of Lysander has requested a number of speed studies from New York State Department of Transportation. The determination from NYSDOT is that a speed reduc-tion is not warranted on Deep Glade Drive, as it is a wide collector road with no houses fronting the roadway.

In working in conjunction with the Town of Lysander, the RCA is agreeable to relo-cating our pathway to the intersection of Deep Glade Drive, Esprit Glade and the park entrance. The current configuration of the RCA path-way system connects near the crest of the hill in front of the tennis courts, with lim-ited visibility. The Town of Lysander, using Radisson Drainage District funds, will place a culvert pipe and fill in the existing roadside swale. The Town Board reviewed and discussed this at its August 2 Work Session. At that same evening’s Town Board meet-ing they passed a motion to amend the Lysander Town Code to include stop signs (4-way) at this intersection and for a striped crosswalk

to be placed at this same intersection. As required, a public hearing will be held on September 6th, with the change becoming official after such time. We expect this work to be completed this Fall and will update you in future issues of the Reflections.

Regarding other road work expected on Town of Lysander roads in Radisson, we were also advised that Drakes Landing Road will be swept, and fog-striped, soon. The projected timeline is to have this completed by the end of August. This timeline is depen-dent on weather conditions.

In addition to that road work, there is work sched-uled to be done on the storm-water drainage system on Willett Parkway. This project will begin at the Route 31 entrance of Willett Parkway, and at that time, the Town Highway Dept will detour motorists to enter Radisson via Loop Road and/or Drakes Landing Road. There are other catch basins on Willett Parkway, near Reston Drive, that also need to be done. The Town Highway Superintendent has advised me that the proj-ect, in its entirety, would be on and off, and over the span of a month or more. During this timeframe, please be alert for

detour signs and avoid these areas, if possible. We have requested that the Town keep us updated with the timeline on this project, so we can keep the community informed. As many of these updates are likely to be last minute, we will send out notices via the community’s eMail Bulletin system.

Approximately one year ago, we received an inquiry from the family and friends of long-time resident Ruth Ann Baumbach, requesting to dedicate a bench in her memory near Lake Oberon. At that time, the RCA Board of Directors had been discuss-ing a Commemorative Bench Policy, but many details need-ed to be finalized. With the assistance of the Operations Committee, the bench was approved earlier this year and we immediately reached out to the Baumbach family, to offer this to them. I’m pleased to inform you that we recent-ly completed the installation of a new bench, in memory of Ruth Ann Baumbach, at Lake Oberon, located near where she and her family have lived for many years. I’d like to thank the Baumbach family for their patience during this process and their donation to the community.

Water Aerobics BrunchThere was

an excel-lent turnout and many sunny days for this summer’s morning water aerobics class. The ladies showed up each morning with smiles on their face and ready

to dance and sing-a-long to upbeat tunes. We were excited to be able to purchase some new aquatic dumbbells and to mix some new moves into our workout routines this year. We celebrated the end of another successful season with a brunch. Everyone broke out their most delicious recipes. It was a morn-ing filled with coffee, good food, and even better company. A big ‘thank you’ to all the ladies,

lifeguards, and instructors who make our summer programs so successful. We look forward to seeing everyone next year!

Sincerely, Megan Dwyer and Erin MilesOberon Pool ProgramsCoordinators

Teen Pool PartyThe teen pool

party was held at the Oberon Pool on Thursday, August 2nd and

we could not have asked for bet-ter weather! The night started off strong with an impressive display of flexibility by the teens during our limbo contest. The fun continued in the pool where the teens enjoyed a few games of basketball and lounged on the inflatable toys. We round-

ed out the evening with a hula hooping competition. Everyone left with smiles on their face, satisfied from a night of swim-ming, music, prizes, good food, and even some dancing. We hope to see everyone back next summer!

Founder's Day CelebrationWe were

very lucky to have perfect weather for this year’s Founder ’s Day! There were plen-

ty of activities for all ages to enjoy! Children enjoyed visit-ing Air FX Body Art for artistic temporary tattoos, creating beautiful scratch art projects in the children’s craft tent, and playing in the bounce house and obstacle course. All ages enjoyed Hofmann’s hot dogs, chips, beverages and Sunshine Ice Cream! Many people took the opportunity to see the grand fire trucks and ambu-lance up close. And making a repeat appearance – the Air 1 helicopter was amazing!! Letizia and the Z Band got started at 6:30pm and had the crowd moving and groov-ing with crowd-pleasing hits until PYROTECHNICO started

the magnificent display of fire-works, which was a perfect end to a wonderful day!

Special thanks to our Sponsors for supporting this wonderful community event. Also, thank you to all of the volunteers that worked in the food and beverage tents, the Rec Counselors who worked at the children’s activities, and the maintenance staff for helping with this event. Last, but certainly not least, many thanks to the Belgium Cold Springs Fire Department, Greater Baldwinsvil le Ambulance Corps and the Onondaga Sheriffs depart-ment for ensuring the safety of all participants.

Founder’s Day is our largest annual Radisson Community event. On this day, we all come together with family, friends, and neighbors to cel-ebrate the wonderful commu-nity we are all a part of.

Thank You Sponsors!
