From The Executive Director Written by Lynn Tanner, CMCA

In 2013, we had an analy-sis of our out-door lighting completed by

National Grid, as part of their Energy Rebate Program for Small Businesses. The areas they evaluated were: Kerri Hornaday courts and parking lot; Carpenter Road courts and Oberon Pool area; and the Storage Yard/Maintenance Facility. The numbers were very impressive as to what the Association could save in energy use. In addition, as part of this program they would be replacing forty year old infra-structure with new LED technology. The Operations Committee dis-cussed this and made a recommen-dation to the Board of Directors that they pursue this further. The Board of Directors thoroughly reviewed the data and passed a Resolution at that time to enter into an agreement with SmartWatt Energy (affiliated with National Grid) to have these improvements made. The upgrades at the three above locations were completed in May, 2013.

Later that same year (2013), we had other common proper-ty areas evaluated to determine if more locations were eligible for upgrades through this rebate program. We were able to include the lighting at the “Radisson struc-

ture”, located at the Willett Parkway entrance, for upgrades through SmartWatt Energy. In 2014, we added parking lot lights in the RCA Office / Oberon Pool parking lot on the corner of Amesbury Drive and Carpenter Road. At locations where there were light fixtures, we were able to upgrade those light fixtures (many being 40 years old) with new, efficient LED light fixtures. At loca-tions were there were no light fix-tures, we were able to add additional light fixtures at a reduced cost.

We recently met with SmartWatt Energy again to evaluate the community’s path-way lights. SmartWatt is doing an inventory on all the current path-way lights, to evaluate if there is a more energy efficient light fixture we could use. In addition, we would like to make all of the pathway lights a uniform style. Some of the lights are the older, original style that the developer {Urban Development Corp) installed, while others have been modified.

Unlike the pathway lights, the street lights are not owned or maintained by the Radisson Community Association. National Grid is responsible for responding to street lights in need of repair or replacing. They have made it relatively easy to notify them when there is a need

for service. If you are aware of a problem with a lightpole on your street, you can provide the infor-mation to National Grid directly at https://www1.nationalgri-dus.com/StreetLight-NY-RES .

Or, you can email the details (i.e. light outage, light on during the day, exposed wires, etc) to [email protected]. We will forward that information to our direct con-tact. However, for us to be able to submit a service request to National Grid we must have the Pole # and nearest street intersection. The Pole # can be found on the pole, typically at eye level (see photo below).

Another item that National Grid has the responsibility for are the electric utility boxes in the community. Earlier this sum-mer, we did an inspection of the National Grid utility boxes and sent that information to National Grid. We provided locations and photos of the utility boxes in the worst condi-tion and asked that they be repaired and/or repainted. I’d like to thank National Grid for their attentive-ness, getting several of these boxes taken care of! We plan on continuing with this next year. Each utility pro-vider has their own criteria of what repairs/improvement it will make and we are also in process of doing the same with other companies.

Earlier this year, voters in the Baldwinsville School District (BCSD) approved a referendum which included a new transpor-tation facility to be built in the Radisson Corporate Park. Jamie Rodems, assistant superintendent

for management services for the BCSD, will be attending this month’s RCA Board of Director’s (BOD) meeting to provide the Directors an update on the progress of this capital project. The BOD meeting will be on Wednesday, November 16th at 7:30pm at the Aspen House. Residents are welcome to attend. I will also provide an overview of Mr. Rodem’s presentation in a future issue of the Reflections.

It’s getting dark earlier in the day now, and after changing our clocks back this weekend, it will be even earlier that dusk/dark-ness hits. That makes this next reminder even more important. Residents are being asked to ensure that you STOP at stop signs. I’ve received complaints and concerns about drivers that are barely slowing down at stop signs. After a quick, visual check they then accelerate into traffic. In both morning and evening hours there are children walking to/from bus stops, as well as pedestrians, bicyclists and other vehicles that drivers need to be cau-tious of. A few extra seconds to come to a complete stop could prevent an accident from occurring and having someone, perhaps a family mem-ber or neighbor, seriously injured. Thank you in advance for taking the extra time to keep the community safer.

We had a magi-cal time at this year’s Halloween parties! More than 75 children signed up to come to

the Aspen House in spooktacular costumes. The children decorated mini pumpkins, played carnival style games and enjoyed donut holes and cider. And new this year…. locally famous Jeff the

Magic Man presented a fantastic magic show! Each child took home a goody bag with Halloween treats.

Thanks to Karen Buchwald, Elaine Ceresko, Sue Dietrich, Sharon Hayford and Colleen Lorenzo from the Recreation Committee who helped with the set-up, parties, and clean up this year. Also, a huge thank

you to our youth volunteers: Ryan, Brendan, Colin, Calvin, Jessica, Emily, Jada, Nicole, Michelle and Alex for helping out with the games, arts & crafts and clean up.

Hope to see everyone again next year!
