It’s Complicated
From the course description itself, Advanced Math with Numerical Methods, I already
expected a whole new approach towards mathematics. As I finished it, I am a living proof that it really is.
For this course, I am constantly torn between “Oh yes. I get the topic.” And “Oh no. I forgot
how to do this.” It is always like knowing the lesson is easy but once any activity is given to test I learned
something, everything becomes so complicated. I am not sure if the problem’s in me or the lessons are just
really complex. As for the homeworks, often times it really takes a great deal of time to work on it. Yet in the
end, 3we realize it is all worth it. Doing homework is like unconciously reviewing the lessons which helps us
a lot. Especially when homework comes before the long exam, it just becomes an early preparation for it.
For the long exams, I must say you always challenge us better than anyone all the time. You always make
sure the exams are going to test if we really gained something or not.
As for you, Mr. Elvambuena, you haven’t changed. You are still the professor I met last
semester who is very strict to the rules and standards. The reason why I really look up to you. Your rules
may seem to be hard to others but I can see the purpose behind it. Those rules are just parts of a simple
disciplinary approach. You want us to gain self-confidence and at the same time, honesty and integrity. On
the lighter side, eventhough there is a part of you being strict and serious, you always neutralize it with your
sense of humor and casualty. It makes you more approachable and less terrifying. It makes us want to
learn from you more.
It is my pleasure to be your student for the second time around, Mr. Elvambuena! Thank
you for the hardwork in making us equipped with proper wisdom and knowledge. You never fail our
expectations in you. Still one of the best professors I have ever encountered. May the Lord grace you
always and forever, Sir!
