Welcome to the 14th edition of the Star Alliance Reference Guide.
WELCOME
2010 marks another year of growth for the Alliance. This edition includes baggage, airport and frequent
flyer information for both TAM and Aegean Airlines (to join second quarter). These two airl ines bring themembership to 28. Air India is also expected to join later this year, bringing the membership to 29.
This guide is designed to provide a user-friendly tool that gives quick access to the information needed
deliver a smoother travel experience to international travellers.
Information may change during the course of the year, so please continue to consult your airlines
publications and information systems for changes and updates, as well as for operational information a
procedures.

Greetings from Aegean Airlines
On behalf of our 2,500 colleagues in Aegean, thank you for welcoming us into Star Alliance.
Becoming a member of Star Alliance represents both an honour and a great opportunity for
our company. In the near future our customers will be able to enjoy the network, privileges
and loyalty rewards of the largest and most recognised airline alliance in the world.
Aegean Airl ines, which celebrated its 10th anniversary in 2009, is the largest airline in
Greece. With a fleet of 31 aircraft we operate 52 domestic and international routes with
more than 200 daily flights. In 2009, Aegean carried more than 6.5 million passengers.
Aegean has been repeatedly awarded by the Athens International Airport as the single
largest contributor to the airports passenger growth and by ERA in recognition of its
operating performance, commercial success and commitment to customer comfort and
satisfaction. We have also received the SKYTRAX World Airline award as the best regional
airline in Europe for 2009.
As we continue to grow our network and further develop our services, we are committed
to becoming valuable contributors to Star Alliance.

Greetings from TAM
We at TAM are very proud and honoured to join Star All iance! We are the leaders in Brazil,
with a fleet of 132 aircraft and 770 daily flights. Our perspectives for growth are multiplied
with the integration into the largest global air line alliance.
In our country, we serve 42 destinations daily, and with agreements with regional companies,we reach 82 airports. We have a primary role in connecting Brazilians abroad and foreigners
with our country. Today we fly to 18 international destinations in the United States, Europe
and Latin America, and we also have codeshare agreements that allow our clients to
travel to another 72 international destinations. With our participation in Star Alliance, our
presence as a global airline is consolidated.
In 2010, the company will complete 34 years of existence. TAM was born as a small company,
founded by a pilot, Captain Rolim Adolfo Amaro. He has taught us the Spirit to Serve, the
permanent search for the best for our clients. These are our roots, the synthesis of our
history, and the basis of the work done by our fami ly of 25,000 people.

Mileage Accumulation
There is no Star Alliance frequent flyer programme. There are 19 carrier frequent flyer programmes, all operating
independently. Customers of any Star Alliance member airlines Frequent Flyer Programme (see chart) can accrue
miles, kilometers or points* when they travel on any eligible Star Alliance member airline flight on a fare eligible for
mileage accrual.
In addition, when travelling on Star Alliance member flights, miles or points count toward higher membership statu
the customers chosen Frequent Flyer Programme.
To ensure successful membership accrual, passengers should quote the frequent flyer number on their member
card, show their card, save passenger receipts and boarding passes in case retroactive crediting is necessary.
*Qualifying accruals vary by frequent flyer programme and are subject to paid fares. Air New Zealands frequent flyer currency is Airpoints Dollars.
Star Alliance Awards
No matter which Star Alliance member airline's frequent flyer programme customers belong to, they can earn and
redeem miles and build status on any of the member airlines. They need only one frequent flyer card and can colmiles from all of the member airlines on which they travel.
Recognition on Inflight Paperwork and Boarding Pass
Recognition of Star Alliance Gold and Star Alliance Silver customers can be found on inflight paperwork and boardin
passes. Look for this format: XX*G or XX*S and read as Airline Star Alliance Gold or Airline Star Alliance Silver (XX is t
two-letter airline code). Example:TG*S = THAI Star Alliance Silver = THAI Royal Orchid Plus Silver

Star Alliance Upgrade Award
The Star Alliance Upgrade Award is an electronic upgrade product. Customers can use their own FFP miles t
on member airline operated flights. The upgrade must be requested and confirmed in advance and subject t
availability. Limited to eligible booking class and flights operated by Star Alliance Upgrade Award participating
Recognition of Membership CardsMembership cards carry these Star Alliance Gold or Star Alliance Silver logos.

Lounge Restrictions
No ID (duty/employee travel) or AD (agency staff) accepted.
Different access policies may prevail for each airlines own premium customers, particularly as they pertain to gue

The following are harmonised ticketing policies and procedures.
Initial Issue
Each carriers policies and procedures related to the issuance of tickets will be in accordance with the IATA Ticket
Handbook.
Reissue
Each carriers policies and procedures related to the reissue of tickets will be in accordance with the IATA Ticketin
Handbook.
Reservation Changes/Revalidation
Each carriers policies and procedures related to the revalidation of tickets will be in accordance with the IATA Tick
Handbook.
Endorsement Waiver
Each carrier will publish and honour the Star Alliance Endorsement Waiver Agreement (EWA) policy 1, as agreed on
multilateral basis between Star Alliance member carriers.
For electronic tickets, the endorsement, as described in the following conditions, is granted by giving airport cont
from the validating carrier to the Star Alliance member carrier performing the reissue/exchange.
Paper tickets: Any Star Alliance member carrier or one of its agents will be able to reissue or exchange a ticket or
without having to request a written or stamped endorsement, under the described conditions:
1 Exceptions apply to SQ.

Conditions
Voluntary When a customer requests a change of airline or re-routing (as described in IATA Resolution 736), the Star
member carriers agree to grant airport control (thus waive the endorsement requirement between themse
non-restricted tickets or MCOs provided that:
A. such tickets or MCOs do not bear carrier validation restrictions, which by their terms prohibit the transfe
ticket or MCOs such as Valid on XX only and Non-Endorsable;
B. such tickets or MCOs are not governed by fare rules that prohibit transfer of the ticket to the other party

No endorsement required for any fare types when an airline encounters an irregular operation (within 24 ho

MCOs for Star Alliance member carriers
Each member issues MCOs for travel on other member carriers, using its own MCO stock. The MCO is issued for thpose of service recovery, and is endorsed valid for redemption on any Star Alliance member for the following purpos
It can be used to pay for tickets, upgrades and excess baggage;
It can be redeemed at all Star Alliance member carriers sales offices or airport ticket offices but not at travel age
The MCO tendered to all member carriers must be limited to USD 750, or its equivalent in other currencies;
A. if the value of the service purchased exceeds that of the MCO, payment of the outstanding sum can be ma
any form accepted by the Star Alliance member carrier,
B. if the value of the service purchased is less than the value of the MCO, a new MCO will be issued for the rema
amount. A new MCO will be issued under the same conditions as the original MCO if the amount exceeds US
MCOs valued at less than USD 50 cannot be renewed. Cash payments against the MCO are not possible;
MCOs are valid for one year from the date of issue. Extension of validity is at the discretion of the issuing memb
Lost MCOs cannot be reissued.
Multi-Purpose Document (MPD)
Each carriers policies and procedures related to the use of an MPD will be in accordance with the IATA Ticketing Hand
Transmittal of Ticket Number(s) in the PNR
Each carrier agrees, by automated or procedural means, to transmit the ticket numbers to any Star Alliance mem
carriers participating in the ticketed itinerary.
