Referral Criteria/Commissioning position:
Referral to Dermatology if:
Diagnostic uncertainty
Discuss with Dermatology if:
Crusted scabies
An outbreak in nursing or care home
‘Red Flags’ include:
Consider crusted (Norwegian) scabies in patients with dementia, neurological
disease or immunosuppression
Investigations prior to referral
None needed
Information to include in referral letter:
The GP referral letter should contain:
Extent and location of rash
How long the rash has been present
Treatments tried already and their effects
Effect on quality of life
Relevant past medical/surgical history
Current regular medication
BMI
Smoking status
Alcohol consumption
