DESCRIPTION

The basic rules and principals of refereeing Atomic Touch (C) Wales Touch Association. Atomic is a brand new version of Touch (rugby) that can be played indoors by males and females. It is a mixture of touch, netball and basketball which is ideal for introducing people to Touch and / or Rugby.

Single referees:

OK for low level social/ junior events

Can stand out-of-bounds or in-field

Dual refereeing:

Advisable for more competitive events

Both stand out-of-bounds (similar to netball)

On opposing long sides of the court

Refereeing Atomic Touch – Key Focus Points

Avoid excessive Physicality/ Contact

•In making the Touch - Both attacker & defender

•Ensure care is taken with extensive changes of direction

Enforce the 2m defence away from the Tap-Ball until play becomes ‘Live’

Correct Tap-Ball in particular ball-carrier is stationary

Be strict on ‘Early’ Touches

Calls

OPEN: To open the touchdown zone after 2 passes have been completed in any attacking set

LIVE: When ball-carrier has performed Tap-ball, run 2 steps with ball, 2 seconds have lapsed (2x2x2 rule)

One, Two, Three after each Touch have been completed

Handover: When 3rd Touch is completed

Temporary penalising individual but not the team

SENT FOR TIME (Sin Bin):

Temporary penalising individual and the team. Return is at referee’s discretion. Guide is 2 minutes

Permanent penalising individual and the team
