A really clean diet and full health kick has helped. I would also like to pass on Danny’s heartfelt thanks for all the money raised to help with his treatment. FROM THE WOMEN

Thursday was the final of the Foursomes and what a great day with all very close matches. The C Grade Premiership was played out between Ondaei Heiser and Anne Nielsen against Jill Hensman and Margaret Verrills. The winners were Ondrae and Anne on the 18th – 2 up – a very good and close match. This was followed by the Bronze Premiership and in another close match, finishing on the 18th the winners were Muriel Dawson and Kathie Nelson who defeated Jan Daniel and Rowena Robinson. Once again the Championship was a great event between Natalie Driver and Catherine Reynolds and Jenni Brown and Pam Burke. After 18 holes – with a short break for lunch – the score was Natalie and Catherine 6 up and they were looking very confident. But with all guns blazing, Jenni and Pam came out and managed to bring the score back to square, and finally to one up, then 2 up, then winning on the 16th,, 3 and 2. The winning shot, and the shot of the day, was made by Pam Burke on the 16th who chipped to within a few inches of the pin. It was all over! There was a terrific gallery to watch the Championship final and I am sure they got their money’s worth today, on this beautiful day. We couldn’t have asked for nicer weather with a little cooling breeze in the afternoon. Thank you to all the caddies and referees for their hard work, and the gallery for their enthusiasm in watching great matches. It was good to see Peter Verrills (with a bit of a vested interest in one match) and Anthony Ryan at our presentation. We also had a Stableford competition for the players not in the finals and the winners were:

RULES WITH GEORGE

QUESTION: Lawrence and Eric are playing a match. On the 5th hole Eric is on the green for five. Lawrence plays his second shot to the green and the ball finishes 30 centimetres from the hole. Eric concedes the hole to Lawrence. When the balls are picked up it is discovered that the ball that Lawrence played to the green was a wrong ball. Which of the following is correct?

a. The concession is withdrawn and Lawrence must find his own ball, add 2 strokes penalty and play out the hole.

b. The concession is withdrawn and Eric won the hole. c. Lawrence won the hole because a concession may not be declined or withdrawn.

RULES WITH GEORGE

ANSWER: b is correct. Lawrence lost the hole immediately he played a wrong ball (Rule 15-3a). The hole was concluded immediately Lawrence played a stroke at the wrong ball and as a result Eric's concession was irrelevant. A player may concede a hole only prior to the start or conclusion of that hole (Rule 2-4)....... Decision 2-4/9 applies.

FROM THE PRESIDENT Where were you last Friday night? If you weren't at the Golf Club you missed the best night "ever". Two hundred and sixty "rockers" had a fabulous time listening and dancing to Barry Leef and his band. Our club absolutely rocked!!!! The band has already agreed to more dates in the new year so I would suggest anyone who missed out this time makes sure you get to the club for the next show. Women’s Foursomes Congratulations to Jenni Brown and Pam Burke who came from 6 down to defeat Cathy Gould and Nat Driver 3 and 2 yesterday. None of us will ever forget Pam's fantastic approach on the 16th to win the match. Goulburn Visit Yes it's that time of the year again. We travel to Goulburn on Saturday 8th and Sunday 9th November. This is a fantastic weekend open to 5, 6 and 7 day members. Sheets are at the kiosk.

The R&A is conducting a global survey of individual golfers. This is now live and can be viewed on the following webpage – http://ow.ly/Cp0tA. The R&A’s survey of individual golfer views and attitudes on pace of play is open to all golfers in every country. It doesn’t take long to do this survey and many members will find it interesting to d it.

LOST Gold chain with a diamond cross, on Tuesday 30th September. Possibly between holes 9 and 18. Please contact Reception if you have any information.

THE BARRY LEEF BAND Friday 3rd October

Some 260 odd music lovers danced the night away to some 1970’s classic rock ballads performed by the BARRY LEEF BAND. Eagles, Steely Dan, Boz Scaggs, Joe Walsh’s Rocky Mountain Way and the Doobie Bros China Grove along with many other great songs from the era. The dance floor was overflowing with golfers who could dance or maybe it was dancers who could golf? We had President Pete dancing the night away in his Blue Suede Shows and John Davison making sure his house was performing along with the BAND. Did I see Ross Guignon giving those knee replacements a testing out? Our own Golden Tonsils, Steve Spillane topped off the night performing THE LONG REEF GOLF CLUB BLUES… Many thanks to Nici, Sandy, Alex, Steph, Kia, Michelle, Phil and all the kitchen and bar staff for making the night such a success. Thanks also to Vanessa and Jenny for their promoting of the event outside the Golf Club. A Big thank you to our rock n rolling long reef members for supporting your club on the night. The “Rocking Flogger”
