Winter Background

The Winter family is active in

the shipping business for

more than a century.

Whereas our ancestors have

shipped local products on

their own ships between

Hamburg and the Baltic Sea,

the business was ever since

developed further.

Today’s company Reederei

Gebr. Winter was founded in

1980 by the Shipbroker Mr.

Harald Winter and his

brother Capt. Jakob Winter.

Also known as the Winter

Brothers , they combined

their skills and experience in

Chartering, Commercial,

Nautical and Technical

knowhow and specialized in

the containership business.

Today the next generation is

managing the company,

represented by Mr. Jens

Winter and Mrs. Catrin

Winter. Together with our

team of Superintendents we

guarantee an utmost and

successful care of our fleet.

Recent Projects

Besides the standard ship-

management, we can offer

professional handling of

large damages, for example

repair procedures (including

supervision) after severe

collisions, as seen in the

pictures on the right. In this

case, a complete renewal of

the bulbous bow had to be

organized. This five months

repair was carried out under

our local supervision at the

shipyard HUD (Hongkong

United Dockyard).

In addition, we have also

expertise to organize and

supervise large machinery

damages or conversions. Of

course, managing such

damages would also include

the necessary coordination

with Class Societies and/or

the insurance companies.

Optimizing Efficiency

Another project recently

managed from start to finish

was the lengthening of four

880TEU container vessels by

one ’ bay into 1025TEU

vessels. The project included

the coordination of the

concept and construction

drawings with the design

house, various approvals

from classification society,

tendering of a shipyard,

supervision through the

building process.

By this conversion, the owner

improved the efficiency of

the vessel and was able to

conclude a long-term charter

for these vessels.

Efficiency is one of the most

important keywords

nowadays. We can advise

clients in all economic and

environmental aspects and

from every point of view for

the optimization of the

vessels efficiency and fuel oil

consumption.

Newbuildings

Overall, we implemented

and accompanied more than

30 newbuilding container-

vessel projects, from 700

until 2800 TEU in the past 10

years. Over the decades, we

developed a high expertise in

newbuilding projects and a

network of professional

project partners all over the

world.

Winter Fleet

Due to the current crisis in

the shipping industry, our

fleet reduced from over 20

vessels down to presently

only seven Container

Vessels, ranging between

1700 TEU and 2,800 TEU,

operating worldwide.

We are permanently looking

for new attractive projects to

increase the fleet again.

All vessels are employed in

time charter contracts, which

are concluded via our in-

house Chartering Broker

Walther Möller & Co.

(www.wmco.de). WMCO has

the direct contact to most of

the big Shipping Companies,

e.g., Maersk Line, CMA CGM,

NYK, MCC; Hapag Lloyd,

Hamburg-Süd, Unifeeder,

etc.

Winter Crew-

Management

The Crew-Management is

done out of Hamburg by

Winter Crew-Management,

a subsidiary also owned by

the Winter Family. It

cooperates directly with

Crew-Agencies on the

Philippines and in the

Ukraine, as well as employing

German Seafarers.

This way we can ensure that

every ship is provided with

high qualified and trained

crewmembers. The crews are

mainly from the Philippines

mixed with Ukraine and

German Officers & Captains.

Additionally, Winter Crew-

Management enables

individual voyages

addressed to seafaring

inspired passengers.
