Sympathy melts the hearts of brutality, It lightens the dazzling way of simplicity, It lights an amazing glow in darkness, To move forward in our lives with cheerfulness.

A sad man needs a heart of sympathy, As he feels, it saves him from misery, Sympathy helps to live in friendliness, It brightens his mind with peacefulness.

Kindness wakes the hearts from sadness, It gives up energy to the soul of calmness, Sympathy brings out the tears of gladness, It flows like the waves in the heart of forgiveness.

1. Anonymous Quotes Towards Arabs

– “It is forbidden to be merciful to them [Arabs]. You must send missiles to them and annihilate them. They are evil and damnable.”

– “I think these people [Arabs and Muslims] need to be forcibly converted to Christianity. It’s the only thing that can probably turn them into human beings.”

– “There is no condemnation, no regret, no problem of conscience among Arabs and Muslims, anywhere, in any social stratum, of any social position.”

– “When we settle the land [Israel], [the only thing] the Arabs will be able to do will be to scurry around like drugged cockroaches in a bottle.”

– “One million Arabs are not worth a [single] fingernail.”

• After analyzing the results from the first survey, I came up with a list of recurring trends that I noticed.

• These trends are specific to Arab peoples only.

• Please pay extra close attention to the next few slides. You do not have to memorize the trends, but you should be somewhat aware of them.

Arabs with DARK COMPLEXIONS tend to receive:

• Lower ratings of trustworthiness

• Higher ratings of aggressiveness

• Lower ratings of likeability

Men with LONG BEARDS tend to receive:•Higher ratings of aggressiveness

YOUNGER MEN tend to receive:• Lower ratings of competence• Lower levels of trustworthiness• Higher levels of aggressiveness

OLDER MEN tend to receive:•Lower ratings of attractiveness

MEN, when compared to women, tend to receive:

• Lower ratings of competence

• Lower ratings of trustworthiness

• Higher ratings of aggressiveness

WOMEN wearing black head covering tend to receive:

•Lower levels of trustworthiness•Higher levels of aggressiveness

OLDER WOMEN tend to receive:• Lower levels of attractiveness• Lower levels of competence

YOUNGER WOMEN tend to receive:•Higher levels of aggressiveness

Women with MAKEUP tend to receive:• Lower ratings of trustworthiness• Higher ratings of aggressiveness

Arabs with MISSING TEETH tend to receive:•Lower ratings of attractiveness•Lower ratings of competence•Lower ratings of trustworthiness

SUMMARY

• The previous slides should have made you notice general misconceptions and stereotypes about Arabs with certain facial features.

• The next few slides try to reduce these biases through word and picture associations.
