Locking or securing wheelie bins also removes a target for vandalism or arson. • Use grates or bars to prevent access to vandalism targets such as display windows. • Trim perimeter trees and bushes to allow passers-by to see suspicious activity near your premises. • Install motion activated lights to allow night time view of the exterior of your premises. • Keep your property and surrounds well maintained and clean – a rundown property invites further vandalism. • Use signs or gates to show intruders they have ventured into private property. • Remove graffiti quickly – quick removal undermines the purpose of graffiti, which is to leave a long lasting visible “tag” or symbol. Call your local council to enquire about their graffiti removal services. • Work with local youth or local artists to have a mural placed on vulnerable areas – taggers are less likely to deface existing art.
