VERITAS NetBackup Global Data Manager provides global management andreal-time reporting for multiple NetBackup sites.

High Performance

Ideal for small to midsize workgroups or businesses, and remoteoffice locations, NetBackup BusinesServer can support up to twotape drives per backup server, or a maximum of one robotic tapelibrary with up to two drives and up to 30 slots. Recent advances intape hardware have produced astonishing increases in performanceand capacity. In most cases, using native UNIX utilities does not makeuse of the high speeds of today’s newest tape devices. NetBackupBusinesServer supports multiplexing; this lets you exploit advancesin the tape drive native transfer rate by allowing up to eightconcurrent data streams to be written to a single tape device. Thisensures that tape devices are driven at or near peak performance,optimizing peripheral hardware usage and raw backup speeds.And by reading backup data to shared memory, NetBackupBusinesServer “buffers” data flows, ensuring continuous datatransfer to tape devices. Additional levels of parallelism, includingspawning up to eight concurrent data streams from a single backupjob, can be employed to further enhance backup performance.

Complete Flexibility

In addition to the powerful feature set included with NetBackupBusinesServer, a number of options and agents are available tosupport the scalability and flexibility requirements of changingand growing business needs. NetBackup BusinesServer offersonline hot backups of Oracle, Lotus Notes, Informix, Sybase,Microsoft SQL Server and Microsoft Exchange Server.

Combined with the Network Data Management Protocol (NDMP)option, NetBackup BusinesServer runs high-performance backupsof network attached storage devices to locally attached tapeperipherals.

Scalable Architecture

NetBackup BusinesServer is based on the high-performanceVERITAS NetBackup™ architecture that helped VERITAS produce theindustry’s first 2 terabyte-per-hour benchmark in 2002.
