REDEEMING RUTH #3

Kamay ng Diyos sa ating

pagpapala

Page 3: REDEEMING RUTH 3 - Ptr. Henry Brown | 7:00AM Tagalog Service

Page 4: REDEEMING RUTH 3 - Ptr. Henry Brown | 7:00AM Tagalog Service

Page 6: REDEEMING RUTH 3 - Ptr. Henry Brown | 7:00AM Tagalog Service

Page 7: REDEEMING RUTH 3 - Ptr. Henry Brown | 7:00AM Tagalog Service

Page 9: REDEEMING RUTH 3 - Ptr. Henry Brown | 7:00AM Tagalog Service

• And here we are right now going forward doing good for His kingdom,

upgraded and updated.

Page 10: REDEEMING RUTH 3 - Ptr. Henry Brown | 7:00AM Tagalog Service

• So the first thing we see in this chapter is A NEW WORD ON NAOMI’S LIPS.

Page 11: REDEEMING RUTH 3 - Ptr. Henry Brown | 7:00AM Tagalog Service

II.

Page 12: REDEEMING RUTH 3 - Ptr. Henry Brown | 7:00AM Tagalog Service

Page 13: REDEEMING RUTH 3 - Ptr. Henry Brown | 7:00AM Tagalog Service

Naomi and Ruth had three reasons to be encouraged and hopeful:

Page 14: REDEEMING RUTH 3 - Ptr. Henry Brown | 7:00AM Tagalog Service

• Mayroong tatlong dahilan sina Noemi at Ruth para mabuhayan at magkaroon

ng Pag-asa

Page 15: REDEEMING RUTH 3 - Ptr. Henry Brown | 7:00AM Tagalog Service

Page 16: REDEEMING RUTH 3 - Ptr. Henry Brown | 7:00AM Tagalog Service

Boaz was their kinsman (which means “relative”). Thirteen times in the Book of Ruth you find references

to the kinsman. This relates to Mosaic laws of the kinsman-redeemer found in two places in the Law,

which I’ll simply summarize for you so you don’t have to turn to them:

Page 17: REDEEMING RUTH 3 - Ptr. Henry Brown | 7:00AM Tagalog Service

Let me explain to you what a REDEEMER does:

Page 18: REDEEMING RUTH 3 - Ptr. Henry Brown | 7:00AM Tagalog Service

First the law relating to the kinsman-redeemer is found in Leviticus 25.

Page 19: REDEEMING RUTH 3 - Ptr. Henry Brown | 7:00AM Tagalog Service

In this passage states that if a Jew became bankrupt or poor beyond the ability to survive and had to sell his property (as Elimelech, Naomi’s husband, had done) or had to sell himself into servitude,

Page 20: REDEEMING RUTH 3 - Ptr. Henry Brown | 7:00AM Tagalog Service

one of his kinsmen (or relatives) could redeem him (which means “to buy back”); that is, essentially pay off the debt. If the kinsman paid the price, the new owner had no choice but to sell back the lost property to the kinsman-redeemer, or to release the servant from his servitude.

Page 21: REDEEMING RUTH 3 - Ptr. Henry Brown | 7:00AM Tagalog Service

• The second law relating to the kinsman-redeemer is found in Deuteronomy 25:5-10 and dealt with marriage.

Page 22: REDEEMING RUTH 3 - Ptr. Henry Brown | 7:00AM Tagalog Service

This law said that if a man died, his brother should marry the widow and raise the firstborn child in the name of the dead brother if he was able and willing to do it. The kinsman was also

required to maintain the deceased man’s inheritance until the child was old enough to

receive it.

Page 23: REDEEMING RUTH 3 - Ptr. Henry Brown | 7:00AM Tagalog Service

So Naomi saw both laws combined in Boaz, their kinsman: and Boaz could marry Ruth according to the law in Deuteronomy 25, giving Ruth and Naomi someone to provide for them…and He could also redeem Elimelech’s property, thus fulfilling the law in Leviticus 25.

Page 24: REDEEMING RUTH 3 - Ptr. Henry Brown | 7:00AM Tagalog Service

In Leviticus 25, a redeemer has two primary functions: TO REDEEM PEOPLE AND PROPERTY.

Page 25: REDEEMING RUTH 3 - Ptr. Henry Brown | 7:00AM Tagalog Service

II. So Naomi and Ruth had a new hope because of WHO BOAZ WAS. They now had the promise of a redeemer.

Page 26: REDEEMING RUTH 3 - Ptr. Henry Brown | 7:00AM Tagalog Service

Mayroong tatlong dahilan sina Noemi at Ruth para mabuhayan at magkaroon ng Pag-asa Dahil

sa ginawa ni Boaz.

Page 27: REDEEMING RUTH 3 - Ptr. Henry Brown | 7:00AM Tagalog Service

What did he do?—He took a personal interest in Ruth. Out of all the people working in his field, he took particular notice of Ruth and spoke to her. But more than that, he protected her, and provided generously for her by telling the reapers to drop some handfuls of grain for her on purpose to glean.

Page 28: REDEEMING RUTH 3 - Ptr. Henry Brown | 7:00AM Tagalog Service

When Naomi saw all the grain that Ruth had gathered, she was amazed. She

knew that someone had been extra kind to Ruth.

Page 29: REDEEMING RUTH 3 - Ptr. Henry Brown | 7:00AM Tagalog Service

Then she found out that it was Boaz who had helped Ruth, and she realized that he

could do much more for them.

Page 30: REDEEMING RUTH 3 - Ptr. Henry Brown | 7:00AM Tagalog Service

EPHAH is somewhere between maybe 30 and 50 pounds that she has obtained through her one day’s labor.

Page 31: REDEEMING RUTH 3 - Ptr. Henry Brown | 7:00AM Tagalog Service

It was the equivalent, perhaps, of two weeks wages for the average worker.

Page 33: REDEEMING RUTH 3 - Ptr. Henry Brown | 7:00AM Tagalog Service

3) Naomi and Ruth had the reasons to be encouraged and hopeful because of WHAT

BOAZ SAID.

Page 34: REDEEMING RUTH 3 - Ptr. Henry Brown | 7:00AM Tagalog Service

Mayroong tatlong dahilan sina Noemi at Ruth para mabuhayan at magkaroon ng Pag-asa Dahil

sa sinabi ni Boaz.

Page 35: REDEEMING RUTH 3 - Ptr. Henry Brown | 7:00AM Tagalog Service

Look at verse 21 – “And Ruth the Moabitess said, He said unto me also, Thou shalt keep fast by my young men, until they have ended all my harvest.” (Note that little phrase at the end of

that verse: “…until they have ended all my harvest.”

Page 36: REDEEMING RUTH 3 - Ptr. Henry Brown | 7:00AM Tagalog Service

Page 37: REDEEMING RUTH 3 - Ptr. Henry Brown | 7:00AM Tagalog Service

I believe that Boaz was saying to her, “At the end of the harvest, something special is going to happen. Stay in my field until the harvest is over. My men will protect you.” I think Boaz had some special plans in mind at the end of the harvest. Ruth recalled his words, and

she and Naomi were encouraged by them.

Page 38: REDEEMING RUTH 3 - Ptr. Henry Brown | 7:00AM Tagalog Service

Ngayon, Bilang mga mananampalataya, mayroon tayong parehong lakas at pag-asa

na nakay Hesus

Page 39: REDEEMING RUTH 3 - Ptr. Henry Brown | 7:00AM Tagalog Service

• SCRIPTURE is TRUE, • It is ULTIMATELY INSPIRED OF GOD through

human authors, • It is PERFECT, • It is HOW GOD HAS CHOSEN TO REVEAL

HIMSELF TO US MOST CLEARLY.

Page 40: REDEEMING RUTH 3 - Ptr. Henry Brown | 7:00AM Tagalog Service

Page 41: REDEEMING RUTH 3 - Ptr. Henry Brown | 7:00AM Tagalog Service

Jesus is our Redeemer.

Page 42: REDEEMING RUTH 3 - Ptr. Henry Brown | 7:00AM Tagalog Service

Let me explain to you what a REDEEMER does. In Leviticus 25, a redeemer has two primary

functions: TO REDEEM PEOPLE AND PROPERTY.

Page 43: REDEEMING RUTH 3 - Ptr. Henry Brown | 7:00AM Tagalog Service

The redeemer was the one who would come in and say, “I’ll pay off the debt to redeem the person from slavery,” or “I’ll pay off the note on the land and the farm to keep it in the family and to bring it back to

the family who desperately needs it.”

Page 44: REDEEMING RUTH 3 - Ptr. Henry Brown | 7:00AM Tagalog Service

The redeemer was the one who fixed everything. The redeemer was the one who was wise and successful, and who

God had blessed so that they could bless others and do works of hassed.

Page 45: REDEEMING RUTH 3 - Ptr. Henry Brown | 7:00AM Tagalog Service

HASSED. It’s a very important word here, translated kindness, or loving kindness. It’s all of the wonderful attributes of God, the love, grace, mercy, patience, kindness, long-suffering, provision of

God. In Galatians, it’s called the Fruit of the Spirit, love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness, self control. It’s this

hassed of God.

Page 46: REDEEMING RUTH 3 - Ptr. Henry Brown | 7:00AM Tagalog Service

He has purchased us from the slave market of sin and paid our debt for us.

Page 47: REDEEMING RUTH 3 - Ptr. Henry Brown | 7:00AM Tagalog Service

Page 48: REDEEMING RUTH 3 - Ptr. Henry Brown | 7:00AM Tagalog Service

That’s what is says in the New Testament.

Page 49: REDEEMING RUTH 3 - Ptr. Henry Brown | 7:00AM Tagalog Service

Jesus is our redeemer, that we belong to Satan and sin and death and we’re bound for hell, and like Ruth, we’re in a terrible predicament, and

that Jesus has given this gracious gift of himself.

Page 50: REDEEMING RUTH 3 - Ptr. Henry Brown | 7:00AM Tagalog Service

Page 51: REDEEMING RUTH 3 - Ptr. Henry Brown | 7:00AM Tagalog Service

What did Jesus do for us?—Oh, my, where do we begin?

Page 52: REDEEMING RUTH 3 - Ptr. Henry Brown | 7:00AM Tagalog Service

He died for our sins; He gave us a new life with fulfillment and purpose;

Page 53: REDEEMING RUTH 3 - Ptr. Henry Brown | 7:00AM Tagalog Service

He gave us eternal life;

Page 54: REDEEMING RUTH 3 - Ptr. Henry Brown | 7:00AM Tagalog Service

He gave us the Word of God to guide our lives;

Page 55: REDEEMING RUTH 3 - Ptr. Henry Brown | 7:00AM Tagalog Service

He gave us a spiritual family in the church.

Page 56: REDEEMING RUTH 3 - Ptr. Henry Brown | 7:00AM Tagalog Service

He gave us the greatest gift of all—His precious Holy Spirit to empower, encourage, convict, and

guide us.

Page 57: REDEEMING RUTH 3 - Ptr. Henry Brown | 7:00AM Tagalog Service

THAT’S WHY HASSED.= It’s a very important word here in series REDEEMING RUTH- translated kindness, or loving kindness. It’s all of the wonderful attributes of God, the love, grace, mercy, patience, kindness, long-suffering, provision of God. In Galatians, it’s called the Fruit of the Spirit, love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness, self control. It’s this hassed of God.

Page 58: REDEEMING RUTH 3 - Ptr. Henry Brown | 7:00AM Tagalog Service

#• Third, we can have hope as believers because of WHAT JESUS SAID:

Page 59: REDEEMING RUTH 3 - Ptr. Henry Brown | 7:00AM Tagalog Service

Jesus has said many wonderful things that give us hope, such as…

Page 60: REDEEMING RUTH 3 - Ptr. Henry Brown | 7:00AM Tagalog Service

Page 61: REDEEMING RUTH 3 - Ptr. Henry Brown | 7:00AM Tagalog Service

Page 62: REDEEMING RUTH 3 - Ptr. Henry Brown | 7:00AM Tagalog Service

We don’t have enough time tonight to share all Jesus’s blessed words of hope.

Page 63: REDEEMING RUTH 3 - Ptr. Henry Brown | 7:00AM Tagalog Service

Hesus.

Page 64: REDEEMING RUTH 3 - Ptr. Henry Brown | 7:00AM Tagalog Service

biyanan.

Page 65: REDEEMING RUTH 3 - Ptr. Henry Brown | 7:00AM Tagalog Service

Ruth didn’t sit around twiddling her thumbs waiting to see what Boaz would do.She went right back to the field and labored right on through the barley harvest and the wheat harvest.

Page 66: REDEEMING RUTH 3 - Ptr. Henry Brown | 7:00AM Tagalog Service

But I believe she returned to the field with a new attitude and a new purpose because the situation was different.

Page 67: REDEEMING RUTH 3 - Ptr. Henry Brown | 7:00AM Tagalog Service

Now she knew the lord of the harvest! Ruth was now more than just a laborer in the field. She had the special care and attention of the lord of the harvest. He spoke to her and invited her to his table to eat.

Page 68: REDEEMING RUTH 3 - Ptr. Henry Brown | 7:00AM Tagalog Service

He cared for her and had plans for her in the future. Ruth’s labor was not the dismal labor of a slave; it was a joyful labor of someone who had great expectations.

Page 69: REDEEMING RUTH 3 - Ptr. Henry Brown | 7:00AM Tagalog Service

we should follow Ruth’s example as we serve in our field of service for God with a heart of love and gratefulness:

Page 70: REDEEMING RUTH 3 - Ptr. Henry Brown | 7:00AM Tagalog Service

In verse 2 she said, “Let me now go to the field.” – May God help us to work for the Lord with such willingness to be used!

Page 71: REDEEMING RUTH 3 - Ptr. Henry Brown | 7:00AM Tagalog Service

Look at verse 17 – “So she gleaned in the field until even,…” She made good use of the time she had to work.

Page 72: REDEEMING RUTH 3 - Ptr. Henry Brown | 7:00AM Tagalog Service

Jesus said in (Jn. 9:4) “The night cometh when no man can work.

Page 73: REDEEMING RUTH 3 - Ptr. Henry Brown | 7:00AM Tagalog Service

We cannot be sure of any time except NOW! to work for God. We must do all we can while there is still time.

Page 74: REDEEMING RUTH 3 - Ptr. Henry Brown | 7:00AM Tagalog Service

Page 75: REDEEMING RUTH 3 - Ptr. Henry Brown | 7:00AM Tagalog Service

CONCLUSION:

Page 76: REDEEMING RUTH 3 - Ptr. Henry Brown | 7:00AM Tagalog Service

So we see these three new exciting things in Ruth’s and Naomi’s lives:

Page 77: REDEEMING RUTH 3 - Ptr. Henry Brown | 7:00AM Tagalog Service

• A new word on Naomi’s lips – “Blessed”• A new hope in Naomi’s heart because of who Boaz WAS (her redeemer), what Boaz DID (he protected her and provided for her) and what Boaz SAID (“Stay and work…and we’ll see what happens…”).• And finally, a new motive in Ruth’s service—Hope.

Page 78: REDEEMING RUTH 3 - Ptr. Henry Brown | 7:00AM Tagalog Service

You men, aspire to be like Boaz. Get your affairs in order. Treat all women as sisters. Be generous, like Jesus. Humble, as well. You ladies, Ruth, great example. Walk with God and his people. Build your friendships. Listen to older ladies. Walk with younger ladies who love the Lord. Live a life of holiness. Work in your job. Walk in your faith, staying in the place that God blesses, trusting that he can and he will, ‘cause he’s sovereign and good. That’s what it means to be the God of providence.

Page 79: REDEEMING RUTH 3 - Ptr. Henry Brown | 7:00AM Tagalog Service

He doesn’t owe us anything, as Boaz owes Ruth nothing. But he lives without sin, he dies for sin. He gives us his own death, burial, resurrection, as a gift. He has favor on us. And like Ruth received the gift from Boaz, we must receive the gift of salvation from the Lord Jesus Christ. And he is the God of hassed, the God of Ruth, the God of Naomi, the God of Boaz is Jesus Christ. And he is the loving, gracious, merciful, kind God of hassed.

Page 80: REDEEMING RUTH 3 - Ptr. Henry Brown | 7:00AM Tagalog Service

you’re bitter and your world is crumbling, fix your eyes on Jesus, the Lord of the Harvest. He is your Boaz, your mighty man of wealth, Consider all He IS to you; all He has DONE for you; and all He has SAID to you in His Word. If we will just keep our eyes on the Lord Jesus and do our work the way He wants us to do it, before long we will be saying with David,

Page 81: REDEEMING RUTH 3 - Ptr. Henry Brown | 7:00AM Tagalog Service

Psalm 103:1“Bless the Lord, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless His holy name!”
