Dear Friends: Have you noticed the stained glass windows that adorn our welcome center? Gus Sauter created each of the panels that are just below the roof line. The panels include religious symbols for baptism, communion, and the Bible. Somehow, there was a panel of Noah’s ark with a giraffe on the adjoining panel (thank you Gus for the honor).
Over the summer we have added gates to the entrance of the patio area and around the pool area that have helped to secure the church property. Now our pre-schoolers can move from their classrooms to the playground in totally secured grounds. We have already seen the decrease in people sleeping on the grounds, carousing during the day, and leaving trash behind. It has made our pre-school families especially happy. With the new income from the Sunnyside mortuary, the church is looking into replacing some of our aging roofs. Endter Hall is 30 years old and still has the original roof. As we look into the roof, we are also looking into the possibility of placing solar panels on the roof to reduce electricity rates far into the future. After further study is made, the council will decide whether or not pursue the project and bring it to the congregation. Another new development has been an outreach to St. Olaf Lutheran Church to discuss possible joint ministry. They have an interim pastor and no longer have the assets to call a full-time pastor. We are in the early stages of exploring how we might work together as partners in ministry. Whether we share staff, explore a 2 point perish, explore merger or some other avenue will depend on talks that develop between the two church councils and then the congregations. Ali Aust is our new office manager. She is adapting well, and is going to be a wonderful addition to our staff. Speaking of additions to the staff, Jennifer Matas Garcia will be our new intern. She is getting married on August 11th and then she will start work here on September 1. Her first duty will be to attend the congregational camp-out over the Labor Day weekend and to lead the devotions at the two evening campfire gatherings. There is still time to sign up for the camp-out and get to know our intern right from the start. Thank you to everyone who sent birthday wishes this past month. I continue to love the work I am doing at Our Redeemer and am truly blessed to have such a supportive congregation and staff. In Christ, Pastor Brian

MEN’S FELLOWSHIP SPRING GOLF OUTING 2019
The Men’s Fellowship of OUR REDEEMER hosted another exciting member-friend Golf Outing on Saturday, June 15th at David L. Baker Golf Course. We had 41 players on 10 teams including 6 family groups, 7 women and 25 friends of members. We had 9 new players for this tournament. The weather was good and everyone seemed to enjoy the golf and socializing. There are pictures in Endter Hall lobby. The Course was in excellent condition for good scoring with the team of Pastor Brian, Pastor Greg, Pastor Mike and Jerry Engelhardt leading the way with a score of 55. The team of Lenny LaVache, Anker Jacobson, Corey Pierce and Chloe Pierce tied the team of Tim Venard, John Venard, Greg Vieta and Angelina Allen for second place. It’s noteworthy that each of the second place teams had a young teenage girl on their team. There were three additional teams at 60 and under. Lots of prizes were available for all with many local restaurants providing complimentary meal certificates. We were blessed with two complimentary dinner/show tickets from Medieval Times, which we raffled off. We raised $200.00 from the raffle to give to the Men’s Fellowship to help support their Compassion children. Garrett Mathany wound up with the tickets for his son! Everyone was a winner this day. There were some newcomers this year which is an encouraging outreach. We hope to see them again and others at our next tournament for another day of fun.

The send-off fiesta for Char and her family was wonderful. Say a prayer for them as they begin the newest chapter of their lives back with their family in Albuquerque, New Mexico. A special thanks to those who brought food and for those that made the day special for Char.
Thrivent Members: Do you have a Thrivent Grant (or two) you would like to use at Our Redeemer? We have a couple of projects we would like to tackle. The $250 seed money would get us started towards updating the campus. Three needed upgrades that come to mind are: Update the ladies’ bathroom in the hallway (between the sanctuary and office). For this bathroom, the wallpaper must come down, new paint is needed and some knick/knacks would be awesome! We also need to update the North Hall kitchen (remove the wallpaper, paint and put in a backsplash plus much more). The third area that needs to
be addressed is Youth Room/North Hall-new curtains/drapes are needed and a new rug for the North Side seating area. That is a start, but there is much more to be done around the church. If you have any questions-please contact Patty Erickson or Pastor Brian.

Would you like to work on learning how to best express your love to your spouse and have your spouse learn how to best express their love to you? Pastor Brian and Wendy will host a 6 session overview of the book: The 5 love languages on the following dates: Sept. 7, 14, 21, 28, Oct. 5 & 12. Each session will present an overview of one of the languages of love. By the end of the sessions, you will be able to discern what love language best speaks to you and to your spouse. The sessions will run 30 minutes each. Babysitting
will be provided for couples who sign up ahead of time. Each session is on a Saturday evening beginning at 5p.m. Babysitting will be provided until 8p.m. so couples can plan an evening out after the 30 minute session. The couples will receive homework each session so they can practice one of the love languages for an entire week. At the last session we will take a test to determine our primary love language and celebrate with a meal together. The cost is $50 for babysitting for the entire 6 sessions (a great deal!!!), $15 for a copy of the book, The 5 love languages, and everyone will pick up the cost for their meal on the last session together. Sign up at the church office or call Pastor Brian with questions at (714) 539-9541.
Backpacks for Success! will provide 3,000 students in underserved and disadvantaged Orange County School Districts with fully supplied backpacks from donor businesses and organizations. Eligible K-12 students will receive a filled backpack with age appropriate supplies. Backpacks and supplies will be distributed in June through August from our 2 Family Resource Centers and our 25 partners!
