(*) INVOCATION, CONFESSION AND ABSOLUTION (Please stand.) P:  In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. C:  Amen. P:  If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. C:  But if we confess our sins, God, who is faithful and just, will forgive our sins and

cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Silence for reflection on God's Word and for self‐examination.  P:  Let us then confess our sins to God our Father. C:  Most merciful God, we confess that we are by nature sinful and unclean. We have

sinned against You in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done and by what we have left undone. We have not loved You with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We justly deserve Your present and eternal punishment. For the sake of Your Son, Jesus Christ, have mercy on us. Forgive us, renew us, and lead us, so that we may delight in Your will and walk in Your ways to the glory of Your holy name. Amen.

P:  Almighty God in His mercy has given His Son to die for you and for His sake forgives you

all your sins. As a called and ordained servant of Christ, and by His authority, I therefore forgive you all your sins in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.

C:  Amen.  (*) HYMN OF PRAISE  (LSB 423, st. 3)

Jesus, may our hearts be burning     With more fervent love for You; May our eyes be ever turning     To behold Your cross anew Till in glory, parted never     From the blessèd Savior’s side, Graven in our hearts forever,     Dwell the cross, the Crucified. (Please be seated.)

SCRIPTURE READINGS L:  The Old Testament Reading for the Second Sunday in Len is from Jeremiah, the twenty‐

sixth chapter.    8 But as soon as Jeremiah finished telling all the people everything the Lord had commanded him to say, the priests, the prophets and all the people seized him and said, "You must die! 9 Why do you prophesy in the Lord's name that this house will be like Shiloh and this city will be desolate and deserted?" And all the people crowded around Jeremiah in the house of the Lord.   10 When the officials of Judah heard about these things, they went up from the royal palace to the house of the Lord and took their places at the entrance of the New Gate of the Lord's house. 11 Then the priests and the prophets said to the officials and all the people, "This man should be sentenced to death because he has prophesied against this city. You have heard it with your own ears!"   12 Then Jeremiah said to all the officials and all the people: "The Lord sent me to prophesy against this house and this city all the things you have heard. 13 Now reform your ways and your actions and obey the Lord your God. Then the Lord will relent and not bring the disaster he has pronounced against you. 14 As for me, I am in your hands; do with me whatever you think is good and right. 15 Be assured, however, that if you put me to death, you will bring the guilt of innocent blood on yourselves and on this city and on those who live in it, for in truth the Lord has sent me to you to speak all these words in your hearing."   Jeremiah 26:8‐15 NIV   L:  This is the Word of the Lord. C:  Thanks be to God.  L:  The Epistle is from third chapter of Philippians.    17 Join together in following my example, brothers and sisters, and just as you have us as a model, keep your eyes on those who live as we do. 18 For, as I have often told you before and now tell you again even with tears, many live as enemies of the cross of Christ. 19 Their destiny is destruction, their god is their stomach, and their glory is in their shame. Their mind is set on earthly things. 20 But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ, 21 who, by the power that enables him to bring everything under his control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like his glorious body.   1 Therefore, my brothers and sisters, you whom I love and long for, my joy and crown, stand firm in the Lord in this way, dear friends!  Philippians 3:17‐4:1 NIV  L:  This is the Word of the Lord. C:  Thanks be to God.  (Please stand to sing.)

(*) RESPONSE

(*) HOLY GOSPEL   P:  The Holy Gospel according to St. Luke, the thirteenth chapter.

31 At that time some Pharisees came to Jesus and said to him, "Leave this place and go somewhere else. Herod wants to kill you."    32 He replied, "Go tell that fox, 'I will keep on driving out demons and healing people today and tomorrow, and on the third day I will reach my goal. ' 33 In any case, I must press on today and tomorrow and the next day—for surely no prophet can die outside Jerusalem!   34 "Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those sent to you, how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you were not willing. 35 Look, your house is left to you desolate. I tell you, you will not see me again until you say, 'Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. '  Luke 13:31‐35 NIV  P:  This is the Gospel of the Lord.

SECRETS TO YOUR BEST DIET Sustainable‐for 10 to 15 years. Can you see yourself on this

diet for the rest of your life? Balance and includes all food groups –No one food group is

be er than the other and none should be completely eliminated.

Loaded with fiber and produce. What works for you—God created us to be unique, and we

are, even down to our biochemistry. The following are examples of diets—can you determine which are fad diets and which are good diets: 1. This diet reports that it improves heart health, most notably

blood pressure. It encourages ea ng fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean meats, heart‐healthy fats and low‐fat dairy. It encourages limited sodium. (Good) It is known as Dash diet—(Dietary approach to stopping hypertension)

2. This diet encourages fruits and vegetables, nuts and seeds while avoiding meat, dairy and all processed foods. It boosts the ability to balance your pH while promo ng weight loss. (Fad) This diet is known as an alkaline diet.

3. This diet promotes weight loss and is simple in one of its varying approaches: add maple syrup, cayenne pepper or lemon to water. (Fad) The ea ng pa ern is known as the Master cleanse or lemonade diet.

4. This diet places a heavy emphasis on plant‐based foods such and fruits, vegetables and legumes. But it also fits in the occasional animal protein source such as chicken or fish. The plan encourages you to eat omega‐3 rich fats from sources such as olive oil, nuts and fish and relies heavily on spices and herbs for flavor instead of salt. (Good) This balanced diet is known as the Mediterranean diet.

Remember before you go on any diet, ask your doctor if it is the right diet for you!

Grief and Loss Support Group for

Redeemer Members

Due to the inclement weather of February and the beginning of March, the Grief and Loss Support Group members decided to put our group on hold, un l April 3rd. Our 6 group dates will be: 4/3, 4/10, 4/17, 4/24, 5/1, and 5/8. Those are Wednesdays, from 2‐3:30, in the Upper Room at church. We do have openings in the group, and the members would like to invite others, who have experienced the death of a spouse, family member, or of someone close to them, to join. Please contact Chris in the church office, 289‐5147, or Kathy Zarling, Parish Nurse, by Sunday March 31, if you would like to join our group.

STEPHEN MINISTRY EXTRA CARE SUNDAY! Our Stephen Ministry team invites you to be extra caring today. Greet everyone with a smile. Ask them how they are and mean it. Stop, look into their eyes as you ask so they know you are truly caring and listening. You may be very surprised by their reac on. Maybe you will actually get a response instead of the usual “Great!” Let’s show one another we really do care. You could actually give them a hug! Find out if there is anything you can do for them. Redeemer is a caring church but let’s put forth a special effort to make it an extra caring place, not only today, but every Sunday. Also, please say a prayer of encouragement for the three individuals who are currently training to become Stephen Ministers. They are in their 10th week of intensive study. Pray also for the Stephen Ministry Leaders, praying that the Holy Spirit will work through them to train our newest Stephen Ministers in the way Jesus has taught us. “We love because He first loved us.” 1 John 4:19
