Introduction: The role of capacity building
Capacity building is a fundamental part of REDD+ for the Guiana Shield A goal/objective in itself A tool for reaching other goals/objectives of the project
Capacity building:
The process of developing someone’s ability to do something
and to sustain this ability in the long term

Reinforce capacities on specific technical topics;Answering countries’ needs in terms of punctual technical support on one of the three components.
Regional technical platform for exchanges on forest cover monitoring, carbon stocks assessment and drivers of deforestation in the Guiana Shield,Build the capacity of targeted countries through good practices and lessons learnt sharing, as well as through outside experts intervention,Enable to identify needs in terms of capacity building and technology transfer, including in the perspective of developing a joined view and position on REDD+ and Land-Use Planning (creation of regional tools).
Train staff of the organizations on technical capacities such as GIS, remote sensing analysis, database management, REDD+, etc.Transfer technologies based on availability and on countries’ needs.
Discuss regional perspectives and tools for land-use planning and REDD+ decisions’ impacts assessment.
