EU: Campylobacteriosis most common food- borne illness in the EU - On 28 January, the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) and the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) stated that campylobacteriosis infections reported in humans have now stabilised for the first time in several years after an increasing trend, one of the key findings of the European Union Summary Report on Trends and Sources of Zoonoses, Zoonotic Agents and Food-borne Outbreaks in 2013. The 2013 figures are back to similar levels first reported in 2012 yet with 214,779 cases, campylobacteriosis still remains the most commonly reported food-borne illness in the EU since 2005. US: FDA study finds milk in dark chocolate - Researcher Binaifer Bedford stated “First of all, milk-allergic consumers should be aware that a high proportion of the dark chocolates we tested contained milk, even when the label failed to list milk as an ingredient. Of greatest concern are chocolate samples that have no statement regarding milk on the label or have inconsistencies in the label. Several of the chocolates labelled “dairy free” were also found to contain milk.” Read more here. United States – 24 February 2015 – Fairway “Like No Other Market” recalled a specific item code of Fairway brand Raw Hazelnuts (Filberts) due to possible salmonella contamination.

United States – 21 February 2015 – El Popocatepetl Ind., Inc. recalled specific UPC codes of El Popocatepetl’s 8inch Chipotle, Spinach Pesto, and Sun Dried Tomato Wraps due to the undeclared presence of milk and Yellow 5 allergens.

United States – 20 February 2015 – Hummingbird Wholesale recalled a specific UPC code of 110 jars of Hummingbird Brand Organic Chocolate Hazelnut Butter due to the undeclared presence of a milk allergen.

United States – 20 February 2015 – Update: Con Yeager Spice Company updated their recall of various brand names of ground cumin and multiple seasoning blends (containing ground cumin) due to the undeclared presence of peanut allergens in the cumin. The company is revising its list of affected products to correct several brand names and provide additional gift box information.

United States – 20 February 2015 – WhiteWave Foods recalled a specific UPC code of Horizon Cheddar Sandwich Crackers due to the undeclared presence of a peanut allergen.

United States – 20 February 2015 – Old Home Kitchens recalled specific production codes of “Sock It To Me Crème Cake” under “the Bakery baked with pride” label due to the undeclared presence of a pecan allergen.

United States – 20 February 2015 – ESS-FOOD recalled various production dates of approximately 50,904lb of Pini Polona Pork Belly Boneless product produced in Poland that was not presented at the US point of entry for inspection. Without the benefit of full inspection, a possibility of adverse health consequences exists.

United States – 19 February 2015 – Kenosha Beef International recalled a specific use-by date of approximately 21,427lb of ready-to-eat Fully Cooked Black Angus Ground Beefsteak (chopped and formed) due to possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination.

United States – 18 February 2015 – Kirsch Mushroom Co. Inc. recalled specific purchase dates of Chilean Mushrooms due to the presence of undeclared sulphites.

United States – 18 February 2015 – Chocolate By Design, Inc. recalled various amounts of Milk Chocolate Assorted Character Icing Pops, Christmas Icing Pops and Triple Heart Icing Pops, made to order and sold in unmarked bulk boxes containing 24 assorted icing pops per box. This is due to the undeclared presence of an egg allergen and possible trace amounts of FD&C colours Yellow 5 or 6, Red 3 or 40, and/or Blue 1.

United States – 17 February 2015 – Ruiz Foods recalled a specific production date of 4.5lb cases containing three trays with eight pieces of Egg Sausage and Cheese Wrapped in a Flour Tortilla due to the undeclared presence of a soy allergen.

United States – 17 February 2015 – Michigan Brand, Inc. recalled specific production dates of approximately 4,287lb of various Teriyaki Hunter Sausage pork sausage products due to the undeclared presence of a hydrolysed soy protein allergen.

United States – 13 February 2015 – Goya Foods, Inc. recalled specific UPC codes of Kirby brand black beans with creole seasoning 29oz and Goya brand black bean soup 29oz due to the undeclared presence of a peanut protein allergen.

United States – 13 February 2015 – The T. Marzetti Company recalled specific UPC codes of LaRosa’s Creamy Garlic Salad Dressing due to the undeclared presence of egg and milk allergens.

Automotive & Pharmaceutical recalls

United States – 25 February 2015 – Heritage Pharmaceuticals Inc. recalled ten lots of Colistimethate for Injection, USP, 150mg Single-Dose vials (NDC 23155-193-31) and three lots of Rifampin for Injection, USP, 600mg single-dose vials (NDC 23155-340-31) manufactured by Emcure Pharmaceuticals Ltd. and distributed by Heritage. This voluntary recall is due to FDA observations pertaining to aseptic and GMP practices at the manufacturer’s site potentially affecting product sterility.

United States – 24 February 2015 – Sagent Pharmaceuticals, Inc. recalled two lots of Atracurium

Besylate Injection, USP, 50mg/5ml single-dose vials (NDC 25021-659-05) and four lots of Atracurium Besylate Injection, USP, 100mg/10ml multi-dose vials (NDC 25021-672-10) manufactured by Emcure Pharmaceuticals Ltd. and distributed by Sagent. This voluntary recall is due to FDA observations pertaining to aseptic and GMP practices at the manufacturer’s site potentially affecting product sterility.

Australia – 23 February 2015 – Jaguar Land Rover Australia recalled specific VIN ranges of Range Rover 3.0L V6 S/C, 5.0L V8 S/C, Range Rover Sport 3.0L V6 S/C and 5.0L S/C vehicles, as the brake vacuum hose may be incorrectly installed. Incorrect routing of the brake vacuum hose can lead to a chafing condition, eventual rupture of the hose and complete loss of vacuum assistance in the braking system.

United States – 19 February 2015 – Bombardier Recreational Products Inc. recalled a specific model year of Can-Am Spyder RT motorcycles, as prolonged idling or slow speed riding in warmer temperatures may result very high temperatures in the engine compartment. These may increase the risk of skin burns or a vehicle fire.

Australia – 19 February 2015 – Mahindra Automotive Australia recalled specific VIN ranges of Mahindra XUV500 seven-seater SUV vehicles due to the possibility of an intermittent fault code that may inhibit deployment of the side curtain airbag. If the airbag does not deploy correctly there is an increased risk of injury to the driver during a collision.

Australia – 19 February 2015 – Ford Motor Company of Australia Limited recalled a specific model year of Fiesta ST vehicles, as the rear seat belt buckles may have a defective latch. In the event of frontal impact, a defective latch could fail, causing the rear seat occupant to be unrestrained by the seat belt. If the seat belt does not adequately restrain the occupant, there is an increased risk of injury during a collision.

United States – 18 February 2015 – Jaguar Land Rover North America, LLC recalled specific model years of Land Rover Range Rover vehicles and Range Rover Sport vehicles, as a lightweight adult front seat passenger may be improperly classified by the occupant classification system (OCS) in the affected vehicles; consequently, the front seat passenger air bag may be disabled.

United States – 13 February 2015 – Mercedes-Benz USA, LLC. recalled specific model years of E350 Sedan, E350 4Matic Sedan, E350 4Matic Station Wagon, E400 Hybrid Sedan, CLS 550 CGI, CLS550 4Matic, 2013-2014 E550 4Matic Sedan, E63 Sedan, E63 Station Wagon, CLS63, CLS63 4Matic, E63 4Matic Sedan, E63 4Matic Sedan “S”, E63 4Matic Station Wagon, CLS400, E400 Sedan, E400 4Matic Sedan, CLS400 4Matic and CLS63 “S” vehicles. The affected vehicles have a rubber seal at the back of the engine bay that may temporarily stick to the hood when it is opened; this may subsequently fall into the engine bay when the

hood is closed. If the rubber seal falls into the engine compartment, it may come into contact with parts of the exhaust system, increasing the risk of a fire.

Australia – 11 February 2015 – GM Holden Ltd recalled specific VIN ranges of EM Malibu sedan vehicles, as a pivot pin inside the twin buckle assembly for the right-hand rear and central rear seat belts may not have been assembled correctly and may slide sideways.

United States – 11 February 2015 – Navistar, Inc. recalled specific model years of IC CE school busses, as the powertrain wiring harness in the affected busses may come into contact with the high-pressure fuel line of one of the fuel injectors, which could possibly result in a fuel leak.

United States – 11 February 2015 – Novae Corporation recalled a specific model year of Sure-Trac Single Ram SD Dump Trailers, as the hydraulic cylinder lift ram mount attached to the dump bed may fail due to it being too thin.

United States – 11 February 2015 – Hospira, Inc. recalled specific lot numbers of Ketorolac Tromethamine Injection, USP, due to the presence of potential particulate matter. The presence of particulates has been confirmed through a customer report of visible, floating particulates, identified in glass flip top vials. The particulates were identified as calcium-ketorolac crystals.

Due to a defective fuel pump, the affected motorcycles may stall while being operated or may fail to restart after being shut off for 15 to 20 minutes.

United States – 4 February 2015 – Morgan Olson Corporation recalled a specific model year of Service Body trucks built on Sprinter cab chassis, as rear identification lamps may be mounted below the doors in affected vehicles. In addition, the licence plate illumination lamp may be mounted incorrectly, which may result in incomplete illumination of the licence plate. United States – 4 February 2015 – General Motors LLC recalled a specific model year of Chevrolet Malibu, Malibu Maxx and Pontiac G6 vehicles, as there may be a sudden loss of electric power steering (EPS) assist in the affected vehicles; this could occur at any time while driving.

United States – 4 February 2015 – Utility Trailer Manufacturing Company recalled a specific model year of FS2CHA, VS2DX, VS1DC, VS2RA, and VS1RA trailers equipped with certain Haldex Life Seal Type 30/30 Long Stroke Air Brake Actuators. The affected actuators may have an incomplete attachment of the internal rubber diaphragm to the actuation mechanism of the parking brake section of the life seal actuator. If the diaphragm is not completely attached, there may be internal leakage from the service section past the diaphragm, potentially trapping air pressure in the parking brake section. This air pressure may prevent full release of the actuator unit, if not vented, and may induce brake drag and result in overheated wheel end service brakes, increasing the risk of a fire.

United States – 4 February 2015 – Newmar Corporation recalled a specific model year of Essex motorhomes built on Spartan chassis. Due to the steering column having inadequate spline engagement at the steering gear, the steering shaft may disconnect or slip.

United States – 3 February 2015 – Newmar Corporation recalled a specific model year of Newmar King Aire, and Essex vehicles equipped with certain Wabco Quick Release Valves with Double Check. The rubber diaphragm in the affected valves may

be damaged by sharp edges on the valve seat ribs, reducing the available air pressure in the air tanks.

United States – 3 February 2015 – Blue Bird Body Company recalled a specific model year of All American rear engine transit busses, as the exhaust system hangers may fail in the affected busses, possibly causing damage to the Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) and the Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) housings.
