Welcome to the Mapping Guide
This guide is designed to give you a more comprehensive overview of all the features available in the Mapping module that is a part of the Red
Square Web. In this guide we will cover such features as:
• How to produce a Map • How search affects Mapping results • Printing Maps
• Printing Maps • Mapping Tools & Functions • Aerials
• Using Mapping as part of your presentations
Supported Browsers
You can access Red Square Web wherever you have an Internet connection via a PC or Macintosh computer. To take advantage of the Red
Square Web features, you'll need to use one of the following browsers:
Internet Explorer 7.0+
Google Chrome 3.0+
Firefox 3.0+
Safari 4.0+
You will also require Adobe Acrobat 9.0+ and Microsoft Silverlight.
Known Issues
During our testing we found the performance of Internet Explorer and Safari is slower when working with a larger number of columns and
records in the List View. You may also experience issues when printing the List View or Thumbnail View where there are multiple pages in
Google Chrome – this is a known issue with printing and Chrome.
The minimum requirement of the screen resolution for optimal experience is 1024 x 768. Any screen resolution set below this will cause the
rendering of the page to be incorrect and you may not be able to see all features of Red Square Web that are available to you.

Getting to know Mapping
The Mapping system can be accessed from For Sale, For Lease, NSW Sales Information, CMI searches or a blank NSW Sales Information map by
simply clicking on the Mapping icon in the top menu of the dashboard. Please note that mapping does not work with NSW Owners information
searches.
Depending on which search you have used to create the map will determine what information is presented in the map and the functionality
available i.e. For Sale maps will only show For Sale listing information, CMI will only show CMI information and so on. There are features in the
Mapping system which allow you to represent certain NSW Sales Information and CMI data on any map which will be described in this
document.
Creating a Map from a search
To create a map from one of the available search options, simply do a search within the search type that you require, Mark the
desired properties and then click on the Mapping button in the top menu. Please note that Mapping system requires Microsoft
Silverlight to function. If you do not have Microsoft Silverlight installed you may will be prompted to download and install it
upon the first time using the Mapping system.
Once you are within in the mapping screen there are a number options available to you both down the side and across the top. The options
and information represented will vary depending on which search type you are in.
The Menus – Down the Side
Locate On Map – The Locate On Map function allows you to do a search from within the Mapping system. You
can enter a full street address, street or suburb. If the Mapping system cannot find an exact match it the system
will display a list of available addresses that are similar to the address inputted. Once the system has determined
the location that it needs to present the new map will be produced at the same level that the current map on
screen is at i.e. the Zoom level will be the same. Please note that this option is only for NSW Sales Information
and CMI searches.

Perform Radius Search – This function allows you to produce a user defined radius search on the map. To
perform a Radius Search you will need to do the following:
1. Click on Perform Radius Search
2. Click and hold the mouse button down on the map location that you want to use as the central point of
the Radius Search
3. Drag your mouse in any direction; a perforated circle will start to appear with a number being displayed
next to your cursor on the screen. This number represents the radius.
4. Once you have moved the circle to the desired distance, let go of the mouse button.
5. An options screen will be presented to you at that time with the following options:
a. Sale Date – This is defaulted to a six month period. You are able to change this by typing in a new
date in the From and To fields.
b. Area – This allows you to define an area size range for your results. This is either in square metres
or hectares. This is defaulted to Any Area.
c. Price – This section allows you to define a price range for the Radius Search Results
d. Plan Type – Define whether you require DP or SP or Both
e. Search Radius – This displays the radius in metres that you have selected
6. Once you have defined your criteria, click on OK and the results will be returned to the map by marking
the appropriate properties.
Please note the following in relation to the Radius Search function:
• It is only available in NSW Sales Information Maps
• If your search returns more than 100 properties the system will notify you of this
• If your search returns more than 200 properties, only the first 200 will be returned
• Radius Search is only active if lots of properties are visible on the map
Launch Neighbourhood Report – This will take the properties that are Tagged on the map and use these as
comparable properties in a Neighbourhood Report. This option is only available to NSW Sales Information
searches and results.

Selected Property Information – This section presents the address, a picture, Bedrooms, Bathrooms, Parking,
Area, Lot/Plan, Title Description, Owner, District, Zoning, Land Use, Settlement Date, Last Sale date and price and
the ability to Mark/Unmark the property that is selected on the map. This information is for NSW Sales
information only.
For Sale properties that are selected show the Address, Status, Price, Bedrooms, Bathrooms, Garage/Parking,
Property Type, Area instead of the information above. If the property has a status of Sold, the Sold information
from the listing is i.e. price is displayed.
For Lease properties show similar information to the For Sale listings with minor differences. Price is replaced
with Rent, the Rent Frequency is displayed and the Rent Type is displayed as well.
CMI results show a combination of For Lease or For Sale information based on the property that is selected at
the time.
From this area you are able to access additional photos by clicking on the left and right arrows at the bottom of
the image displayed. You can also expand the images to a larger display by clicking on the Arrow pointing up in
the top right hand corner of the image.
Google StreetView has also been incorporated into the system. This can be accessed by clicking on the
StreetView icon in the top right of the image represented by an orange figure with a green arrow pointing out
from it.
This information can also be brought up by clicking on a Marked property on the map itself. When this is done a
Callout window similar to this section will be presented on the screen with the options available similar to this
feature.
The Menus – Across the Top
Back – This button allows you to go back to your last map that was on the screen. Please note that if you make a change to the
maps in any way i.e. turn on aerials etc this is considered a new map and will affect how this button behaves.
Copy EAC ID – This option will copy the EAC ID for the properties that are marked/tagged on the map to the clipboard. This list of
identifiers can then be used in the corresponding search. For Sale and For Lease properties will copy the Listing number, NSW
Sales Information and CMI will copy the EAC Property Key.

Toggle Scale – This will turn on or off the scale that is located at the bottom of the map.
Layer Options – The Layer Option allows you to turn on and off certain layers and information on the map. This encompasses
Geography, Transport, Feature, Lot Boundary and Administrative Boundary layers. Administrative Boundary is a single selection
option and will be represented by a Red line on the map if the corresponding boundary option is selected. All other options are
multi select fields and therefore any combination of options can be chosen.
Geography includes Water Body, Water, Contours and Parks and Forest layers.
Transport covers Highway, Main, Secondary, Other, Track, Road Lines, Road Names and Railways.
Feature incorporates Public Facilities, Education, Recreation, Rural, Other and Feature Names.
Lot Boundary allows you to change Normal Lots, Roads, Pathways and Railway Land.
Administrative Boundary is for Suburb, County, Parish, Federal Electoral, State Electoral, Local Aboriginal Land Council, Local
Government, Mine Subsidence and Rural Land Protection.
Once you have chosen the options that you require click on the close button and the options selected will be updated on the map
displayed.
Property Options – This option allows you to choose what information is represented on the map. You are able to choose details
relating to address, owner and vendor information, lot and plan information and sale information for NSW Sales Information
records. For Sale and For Lease information is different to the NSW Sales Information in that you can have information such as
Bedrooms, Bathrooms and Parking and other relevant pricing information. Once you have selected the data you desire you have 4
options available to you:
• Currently Downloaded Lots: This will put the information on any property on the screen that you have interacted with i.e.
clicked on.
• Marked Lots: This option displays the information on the map for only lots that are marked.
• Individually Selected Lots: Only properties that you click on after you have selected this option will show this information.
• None: This will put the information on no properties unless you use the right mouse button option to put it on a
highlighted lot.
You are also able to change the font size, type and format from this area. The final option is the ‘Automatic zoom out to show all
lots of the selected property’ which will zoom you out to be able to see the entire property if you have selected this option.

Zoom to Rectangle – To use this tool, simply select it from the options at the top, click and hold the left mouse button on the map
and drag you mouse across the map. This will create a perforated rectangular shape on the screen. Once you have drawn the
desired area release the mouse button. The map will then be updated to zoom in to the area that you had created.
Add Text – You are able to add your own customised text on the map. Once you have entered your desired text, you are able to
make the text wrap onto the next line if required and/or you can change the transparency option. You can use this tool as many
times as you like to have multiple text options on the map if required. The Remove All button will remove all text from the map
that you have entered. Please note that the font style is determined by the font chosen in the Property Options.
Add Image – This option allows you to Add images to the map. This can either be a set of predefined images i.e. Sold, For Sale etc,
or and image that you desire from choosing the Other option and then clicking on browse. Once you have selected the
appropriate image you are able to choose to add it to All Marked properties. The Remove All option will remove all images that
have been put on the map.
Add Distance – The Add Distance tool allows you to measure out a distance and represent this measurement on the map. You are
able to create multiple measurements and also multipoint lines i.e. measuring the walking distance to the local park, beach, total
distance around multiple lots, boundary measurements around multiple inline lots etc. To achieve this, click on the icon and
choose Add from drop down menu. Using the left mouse button, click on the first point on the map. Move your mouse do the
next point and you will notice a line will be drawn with the movement of your mouse. When you have reached the relevant
location on the map, click with the left mouse button and a new point will be put on the map. If you want to continue adding
measurements attached this line, repeat this process. Once you have the desired lines drawn, click on the Finish button in the
drop down menu again and this will finalise the process for you. To change the distance measurement from individual sections to
a total distance, Right mouse click on the line and then click on Change Distance Line Display option at the bottom of the menu
that is presented. Please note that to there is an easier method to draw boundary measurements around singular properties in
the Right Mouse button menu which will be explained later in the guide.
Add Area – Similar to the Add Distance tool, the same options of Add, Finish, Cancel and Remove all are available to use as well as
the ability to change the area measurement by right mouse clicking on the area created and choosing the Change Area
Measurement Type option at the bottom. This tool works in similar method in that the process is almost exactly the same. The
only difference is that you must draw at least a 3 sided shape to get an area. This tool can be used to draw areas around multiple
lots, areas for buildings using aerials etc. Please note to create the approximate area size for an individual property, use the Right
Mouse button option that is explained later in this guide.

Map Legend – This defines the different symbols that can be seen on the map. These symbols represent the different amenities
that are available within the visible map.
Marked Property – The Marked Property option allows you to manipulate the marked properties on the map. From this tool you
are able to:
• Unmark All properties that are already marked.
• Unmark Non Visible properties i.e. Unmark all properties are outside the visible area of the map on the screen.
• Zoom All Marked: This allows you to produce a map that shows all marked properties on the screen at once.
• Show Boundary Size: This will put the boundary measurements on all properties that are marked.
• Show Area: This will put the total area on each property that is marked.
The other section in this is the Goto Property option. If you choose a property in the list and click on Go it will move the map to
this property if it is not on the screen at the time.
Themes – Themes allows you to incorporate data from both Current Market Information and NSW Sales Information onto the one
map while maintaining the map that you are already in. The options for NSW Sales Information are:
• Last 12 Months
• Last 12 – 24 Months
• Last 24 – 36 Months
You can also choose to display the Sale Date and Price.
Current Market Information options are as follows:
• Current For Sale
• Recently Sold
• Currently For Rent
Current Market properties will also allow you to show the Status and Price/Rent for these properties.
When these options are chosen, any properties that match the selection will be shaded in the corresponding colour for that
option. If multiple properties in the one lot match the criteria, then the resulting shading will be a combination of these colours.

This group of options allows you to choose what type of map you want to show.
• Map only shows the underlying cadastral maps.
• Aerial show only aerials where. Please note that the aerials can vary from being satellite imagery
to aerial photography. Where neither of these is available then a Bing Aerial Map will be
presented.
• The Both option incorporates the Cadastral and Aerials maps.
Print – Due to the nature of browser technology printing technology has been built into the mapping system. Similar to Red
Square Web, there are three different options when printing a map. You can choose to print the map with the List View option
which will list set information for each property that is marked on the map underneath the map. Thumbnail View uses the same
information as List View but in a different format and incorporates a photo where available. If you do not want to have any
information print out beneath the map, then choose the Map Only option. Once you have made your selection you can choose to
either print directly to the printer or Print to PDF. Please note that each printer deals differently when it prints from a web
browser and the results may vary. You can also change the orientation from Portrait to Landscape.
Save – The Save option works exactly the same as the Print option. You can save the map with a List, Thumbnail or no information
beneath it. Maps can be saved as either a JPEG or PNG file.
Reconnect Mapping Service – If your mapping system is disconnected, generally due to the 1 hour idle time expiring, you may
need to click on the Reconnect Mapping Service to get the map working again.
About – This button details information in relation to EAC, its partners and suppliers.
The Map Screen
The actual map has a number of different symbols and functions associated with it. These can be used to manipulate and change the
information represented on the map and also indicate certain information about the map itself and your location on it.

When navigating the map, changing the zoom level, or changing the information on the map, there are a number of different methods that
can be used to achieve this.
Using the Map
Zoom In or Out – In the bottom left corner of the map there is a Zoom toolbar that allows you to click on the plus or minus
icons to zoom the map in or out. The new map will not be produced until you have stopped clicking on these symbols for 1
second. You can also use the scroll wheel on your mouse (if it has one) to zoom in or out. To zoom in using the scroll wheel,
roll the scroll wheel forward (towards the screen). To zoom out roll the scroll wheel backwards (away from the screen). Once
again the new map will not be downloaded until such time as you have stopped either action for at least 1 second.
Mini Map – The Mini Map represents a general location of the map that you have downloaded. The Mini Map, which can be
seen in the bottom left hand corner of the map, can be left open or hidden. This is represented by the arrow in the top left of
the Mini Map. To hide the Mini Map if it is showing, click on this arrow. If it is hidden you are able to show it again by clicking
on the arrow again.
You are able to move the map around to your desired location by simply dragging the map in the direction you want to while holding down the
left mouse button. Once you have moved the map to your desired location, let go of the left mouse button and it will download the new map.
The Status Bar
The Status bar at the bottom of the map has information that is relevant to the map and user. The Status bar cannot be turned off nor will it
print out with the map.
Marked Properties Count – This will inform you of the amount of properties that are marked in and be presented on
the map itself.
Connection Status – The connection status is represented by with the Connected or Disconnected tag.
User information – This is the user ID of the person that is logged in at the time of the map being produced.
Service Type – This represents the subscription level that your office currently has.

Coordinates – The longitude and latitude coordinates are presented here and change as you move your mouse around
the map following your cursor.
Property Type – This will represent which search was used to produce the map i.e. Residential, Rural, NSW Sales
Information, Current Market Information etc.
The Right Mouse Button
The right mouse button has a number of functions that can be a simpler way of doing a number of the options available in the tool bars. Once
you have brought these options, to select the one that you require, you will need to
Once you have highlighted a property on a map and right mouse clicked on it, this is the first option that
becomes available. This will allow you to mark/unmark the property that is currently highlighted.
This will move the map so that the property that was highlighted when you choose this option will become the
central point of the map at the same zoom level.
Simlar to the option that is available in the Marked Properties List in the top menu, this option will move the
map and zoom in or out as required so that a map is displayed that shows all marked properties on the one map.
This will zoom the map in or out to a set list ranging from 500m to 250km map.
Similar to the option is the top menu this will put the property detail information on the selected lot.
This option will allow you to apply different styles of shading to individual properties.
This will add the boundary measurements to all boundaries on the selected property.
This will add the boundary measurements to all boundaries on all marked properties.
This will add the Area size on the selected property.
This will add the Area size on all marked properties.
