Santiago gets to the cayuco Santiago and his sister, Angelina, begin sailing Enrique also goes with them SANTIAGOS VOYAGE

Santiago sees the big military boat Santiago hides in branches to hide from military boat Branch falls and the soldiers almost catch Santiago Enrique gets off of the cayuco after they pass the military boat SANTIAGO GETS PAST THE SOLDIERS SHIP

Santiago starts sailing with only his sister He is nervous about sailing alone Santiago wishes Enrique was still with him SAILING ALONE

Santiago fights waves throughout the story but these are his first waves Doesnt have to much trouble Santiago realizes he needs some protection from the ocean spray FIGHTING WAVES

Santiago trys to read the map Uncle Ramos gave him Santiago has trouble reading the map Santiago realizes that he doesnt know where he is Santiago decides to keep sailing TROUBLE WITH MAPS

Santiago is glad he found the coast Santiago puts the boat in a bunch of branches near a coast Santiago gets his first good night of sleep They start sailing when Santiago wakes up FIRST SLEEP

Santiago finds a nice deserted island Santiago docks his boat on the island Makes padding out of leaves Santiago and Angelina start to sleep ONLY NAPS FROM THEN ON

Santiago and Angelina are sleeping Santiago hears a boat pull in Pirates get off the boat Santiago hears the pirates talk about the boat the plundered Santiago starts inching towards the boat with Angelina When Santiago thinks all the pirates are asleep he jumps in the cayuco and paddles away One pirate sees him Pirates go after Santiago Pirates crash their boat PIRATE ATTACK

Once Santiago leaves the island they start sailing on the ocean Santiago never sleeps Santiago only takes quick naps When he takes naps Angelina watches SHORT NAPS

While Santiago is taking a nap the boat flips over Santiago grabs Angelina and jumps out of the boat Santiago trys to flip the boat right side up BOAT FLIPS

When Santiago is taking a nap Angelina goes to the bathroom in the cayuco All the food that they have left is ruined Santiago has to clean the coconuts FOOD SHORTAGE

Santiago makes a fish hook out of a sea shell Tries to fish with sea shell fish hook Sea shell fish hook breaks FIRST FISH HOOK

Second fish hook made from a nail Used the last of the fishing line Caught a lot of big fish Also caught a few small fish Kept fishing until they had enough fish to last they the rest of the trip Angelina hung the fish on the sail pole SECOND FISH HOOK

Boat flipped again Waves were more violent Lost all the food Paddle broke Sail mast broke Lost the fish hook Had no way of getting food Santiago let the boat drift where ever the waves and current took the boat SECOND BOAT FLIP

Santiago sees lights Santiago thinks its just his imagination Santiago paddles toward the lights out of desperation After a while of paddling Santiago feels as if the lights didnt get any closer After a few more days of drifting the lights look closer LIGHTS

When Santiago sees the lights and realizes that they got closer he starts paddling with all his strength When he gets to shore all the people look at him The people wonder why he was there FLORIDA

After he gets to shore an ambulance comes Take Angelina and Santiago to a hospital Santiago falls asleep When Santiago wakes up Angelina is asleep next to him Santiago and Angelina are covered in bandages HOSPITAL

A woman comes in the room The woman speaks Santiagos language Santiago tells the woman all about his travels to get to Florida Santiago and Angelina eat food that the nurse brings them A FRIEND

Two men from the government come Ask Santiago questions about his journey Santiago tells them about his journey beginning to end The two men leave AMERICA

Santiago asks the woman if they were going to deport them The woman tells him that they wont deport them They wont deport them because they are only children Santiago goes to sleep in a real bed for once in his life THE END

Soldiers kill Santiagos family and burn his village Santiago wants to Santiago and Angelina Learn how to sail get to America
