God’s conversation hearts Those familiar conversation hearts that show up every February can be more than just trite romantic or friendly say-ings. Use them to remind you — or to teach a child — of the greatest love of all: God’s love for us, which empowers our love for others. For example: ♥ TRUE LOVE: What love is truer than giving up one’s only Son so people might have everlasting life? (John 3:16). ♥ BE MINE: Jesus knows us intimately, as a shepherd knows his sheep. No one can snatch us from him (John 10:27-29). ♥ FOREVER: God loves us with an “everlasting love” (Jeremiah 31:3). ♥ LOVE ME: The greatest commandment is to love God with our whole being (Luke 10:27). ♥ TRUST ME: “Let not your hearts be troubled.” We can count on Jesus, now and for eternal life (John 14:1-3). ♥ SWEET TALK: God’s words are sweeter than honey (Psalm 119:103). ♥ BE GOOD: We show our love for Christ by keeping his commands (John 14:15). ♥ CALL ME: God longs to be in fellowship with us. We can talk to him anytime in prayer (Jeremiah 33:3). ♥ FRIENDS: The greatest love involves laying down your life for your friends (John 15:13) — precisely what Jesus did. ♥ #1: “We love because [God] first loved us” (1 John 4:19).

Red Lodge Community Church Council Minutes

January 10, 2017

In Attendance: Pat Bomar, Moderator; Debbie Awes, Vice-Moderator; Shirley Quinn, Treasurer; Sharon Roat, Financial Secretary; Skip Bratton, Facilities; Dixie McCampbell, Endowment; and Chuck Aurand, Minister. The meeting was called to order in the Upper Room at 5:00 pm. Pat Bomar, Moderator, appointed Pastor Chuck as Secretary pro tem. A quorum was declared. Pat Bomar opened the meeting with prayer. The Minutes from the December 13, 2016 meeting of Council were available to all present. It was MOVED that the Minutes be adopted. Seconded. The Motion passed. Sharon Roat gave the Financial Report. We received another “renewed” pledge for $2380.00. This brings our total pledges for 2017 to $109,050.00. The total “Angel Fund” end of year giving campaign brought in $5,975.00. We received a gift of $50,000.00 for new pews to be administered by the Facilities Management Committee. We received a gift of $15,000 to be split between our music program and the church general support. Shirley Quinn gave the Treasurer’s Report. We ended the year in good shape (in the black) with a net income of $6,913.00. The Deacon’s Report was given by Pat Bomar. Our church worship attendance in 2016 is up over 15% from 2015. We had over 160 in attendance at the Candlelight Christmas Eve Service. We are reviewing the video ad-dition to our worship services and expect to have a recommendation by next month. The Deacons are also plan-ning a new member event in the near future. Pastor Chuck presented the Pastor’s Report. The year ended on a high note with the Christmas Eve worship service. Appreciation is extended to all who served to make our worship so vibrant throughout 2016. The Worship & Music Committee is working to review and evaluate the video “trial” which was begun with the start of Advent. A survey tool will be given to the congregation to help us evaluate our objectives. The pastor will be working closely with the Stewardship Committee to prepare a “narrative” budget and to help fulfill their role as interpreters of Mission to the congregation. The pastor reminisced that he arrived in Red Lodge a year ago this week. Thank you to everyone for a great year! Pat Bomar gave the Moderator’s Report. Pat reminded us all of the upcoming Congregational Meeting on January 15, 2017. We will install the new church officers during this Sunday’s worship service. Pastor Chuck will prepare the liturgy. Pat reflected on his time as Moderator and wishes Debbie Awes success during term as Moderator. We are still looking for a Vice-Moderator to assist Debbie. Skip Bratton gave the Facilities Management Report. The Facilities Management Report was presented in a three page report which is available in the Church office. In summary, we are going to purchase new pews for the sanctuary. We are looking at both a projector and flat panel TV monitor options for our video during worship. Many items were repaired and renovated. Appreciation is extended to John McCampbell, Jay West, and our volunteers who are now cleaning the church. Pat Bomar reported that Christian Education has a new teacher: Christian Hickox. All is going well. The Finance Committee has issued new Request Forms for money to be transferred from the Reserve Fund. This form must be used for purchases over $1500.00 or anything over budgeted amounts. This new form will be emailed to all Committee Chairs and has been placed in their boxes. An account was opened by Charles Schwab Investments. This account will allow us to accept stock donations at a very low rate ($8-$9/transaction). Those who wish to make a donation of stock or securities, please contact the church office. We have money at First Interstate which could be earning more interest. It was MOVED by Shirley Quinn that we authorize the Finance Committee to utilize funds which are not receiving interest to interest bearing accounts. SECONDED. The motion carried. The Finance Committee requested that we permit the merger between the Finance Committee and the Endowment Committee. As this may have Constitution/By-Law/Standing Rules implications this will be investigated and reported back at our next meeting. For the time being, the Council gave consent for the two committees to hold joint meeting and submit joint minutes.

Council minutes continued…

Under New Business, we discussed the church credit card and our bank signature card. It was MOVED by Debbie Awes that we close our Church Credit Card under the name of Jim Hilderman. SECONDED. The motion carried. It was MOVED by Skip Bratton that a new signature card be created at First Interstate Bank with the Treasurer, Moderator, and Vice-Moderator’s signatures. SECONDED. The motion carried. The Church will open a pre-paid credit card with a limit of $300.00 which will be administered by the church secretary. Persons purchasing things on behalf of the congregation may also seek reimbursement from the church office. A plaque was discussed honoring individuals who have given to the church. Skip Bratton will investigate and report at our next meeting. Our next meeting shall be held on February 14, 2017 at 5:00 pm in the Upper Room. There being no other business, we adjourned. Respectfully Submitted, Pastor Chuck Aurand

Would you like to make a gift of securities to the church as either part of your pledge or a special gift? If so, please contact Lynette in the church

office for new procedures for such gifts. The church now has a brokerage account which allows us low cost processing of gifts of securities. Thank you for thinking of the church! Judith Gregory, Chair the Finance Committee

Are you missing a jacket, water bottle, ball cap or something else? We have “found”

some items. Most recently we have found a beret and gloves, and a hummingbird

earring with a birthstone (garnet?). Also there are jackets in the closet in the Narthex

and on the coat rail on the lower level. Anything belong to you? How about a Hamilton

Beach food processor… or was this donated to the church?

Stop in or call the office, 446-1444.
