    1. ACTION Capture the most exciting moments, and highlight the elements that make the event impressive and unique.

    2. PORTRAIT Posed photographs of the athletes that shows them in their environment and conveys their personality.

    3. LIFESTYLE/DOCUMENTARY Try to document the atmosphere and feeling of the event

    8. CREATIVITYOnce the mandatory keyshots have been covered it‘s time to work on more creative stuff.

    7. BRANDING Take images that portray the brand authentically and show people interacting with the can.

    6. WINNEROnce the finish line is crossed and the judges made their decision it‘s time to capture the emotions.

    4. DETAILS Capture some details that tell the story.

    5. OVERVIEW / CROWDAn overview of the event area complete with action and spectators.

  • 1. ACTION Do your best to highlight the best moments of the event. Timing is key. Place yourself as close to the action as possible while staying safe. Close-ups help emphasize the distances, but don’t forget how a long lens can

help you concentrate the viewer’s attention on a particular element. A higher or lower viewpoint can be interesting as well. Try to shoot some motion blur images as well (if there is time left) to show the speed. Shoot horizontal AND vertical.

    2. PORTRAIT Do your best to convey the personality of the athletes/participants through your photographs. Shoot portraits that look authentic. Show what makes the athletes push themself so hard

(sweaty or dirty faces as an example). Try a mix of close ups and full body shots, and explore all of your focal lengths, don’t just

stick to classic portrait perspectives. Incorporate the equipment into the portrait to give the picture some context. Do a location check prior to the event, so you are not using up the time you have with

the participants. Even better if you can have your equipment set up before they arrive. Align with the Comms Manager to schedule some time with the participants.

    3. LIFEFSTYLE/DOCUMENTARY Lifestyle shots can be authentic moments captured when the participants are unaware, or they

can be set up in a legitimate way, last minute preparations for example. Try to tell a story with your images. Capture the emotions and interactions between

the spectators and the participants. The participants relaxing and having fun make a good contrast to the action. Try to capture the local touch of the event.

    4. DETAILS Try to shoot some details that tell a story. Not every picture has to show the athlete(s) as well. Sometimes a nice detail of the

equipment tells the story as well. Details can be also shot during the preparation or training.

    5. OVERVIEW / CROWD The overview shot should include action and the crowd/spectators as well as an empty event

area doesn’t give the best impression of a good event. Show the event area complete with surroundings, such as landmarks or identifiable

buildings and landscapes. Scout for vantage points in advance, and make time to visit it at the beginning or end of the

event so you don’t miss any of the action.

    6. PRIZE GIVING / WINNING SCENE Photographs of the winners ceremony are a must. Try to schedule some time with the winners for some portraits with the trophy afterwards. You are the Red Bull photographer! Get the winners’ attention, as one subject that is not

looking towards the camera can ruin the picture. Avoid wide angle lenses for the podium shot as they create a distorted image, rather go

for a 50mm lens or longer.

    8. GET CREATIVE Once the mandatory shots have been covered you can get creative. Creativity is key. Experiment with different techniques (eg. tilt-shift, long exposure, light

painting, sequences, multible exposure etc.). You can incorporate the location and use elements such as reflections, textures etc. to include

them into your images. There is no limitation as long as the final image is relatet to the athlete, brand and sport in an

authentic way. If there are possibilities to set up GoPro cameras on the bikes to get a POV perspective please

    do so.

    7. BRANDINGAUTHENTICITY COMES BEFORE BRANDING. Drinking scenes and can in the hand shots are required. BUT it is very important that the can is not forced it into the scene. It should blend in naturally and not be the main focus of the image. Make sure the can is always open! Always carry a few chilled cans of Red Bull Energy Drink with you to hand to the athlete in case there are none on site. Discuss the branding on site with the Comms Manager before the event, and make sure your job is not made harder by having too little branding.

Branding must be visible in the majority of the shots you deliver, and must be integrated believably.

Over branding should be avoided. 1 logo is ideal, but strive not to include more than 2-3. Images that show especially the moment of need (eg. preperation, training or during the main

activity) are heavily required. The can should never be the protagonist of the image. Clever placement in the background,

or out of focus make the image more authentic and believable.
