Chamber Cattleman’s Mixer
Red Bluff-Tehama County Chamber of Commerce and the Tehama County Cattlemen's Association will once again demonstrate "typical local hospitality" during the year's Round-Up Week by sponsoring the Chamber's biggest mixer of the year on Thursday, April 14. This year's mixer will feature live entertain-ment by "Fire Mountain", Round-Up hors d'oeuvres, and "schmoozing" with Round-Up Rodeo stars and sponsor celebrities. Hours for the mixer, which has become a "mainstay" of Round-Up week festivities, will be from 5:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. accord-ing to Chamber President Greg Stevens and hosts Paul & Kit Reynolds, owners of Reynolds Ranch & Farm Supply. Again this year, in an attempt to exer-cise additional crowd control and to aid the Cattlemen's Association and the Chamber in fund-raising efforts, admission to the mixer will be by special Round-Up Mixer badges provided by the Palomino Room. The Red Bluff – Tehama County Chamber of Commerce and Red Bluff Daily News is excited to announce April’s Business of the Month is Luigi’s Pizza. The nomination we received was from a customer that frequents the restaurant two to three times a month and attends monthly Kiwanis Student of the Quarter meetings at Luigis. This guest com-mented that, “The whole staff is very courteous and will-ing to go the extra step to satisfy”. The nomination also states all employees thank their customers as they leave, and keep the restaurant clean inside and out. Luigi’s is a won-derful asset to our community because of their staff’s great customer service and curb appeal. Luigi’s Pizza is in a high
traffic area at the entrance to Belle Landing shopping plaza and taking the extra care in appearance helps enhance our community. Thank Luigi’s for taking the “extra step “. Congratulations on receiving the Business of the Month award! If you feel there is a Tehama County business that needs to be recognized as Busi-ness of the Month, please send in a nomination. The nomination forms are available on the Chamber’s website www.redbluffchamber.com or at the Chamber office at 100 Main St, Red Bluff. We can’t do it alone. Luckily, we don’t have to.
Every now and then in Chamber of Commerce volunteer work there are moments when the value of what the Chamber does rings through, clear as a bell. As the “11 Days of Round-Up” approach again, I’m thinking of compliments made to the Chamber from two well-known community icons. Not only by what they said, but by what they did. (Both are going to be embar-rassed at being spotlighted here, but I’ll gladly take the razzing for that.) The first is John Growney. John could easily be the poster child for the sprit of Red Bluff. It was John who came to Chamber staff with lifelong friend Linda Durrer some time after Round-Up 2010 and talked about the week preceding Round-Up , 20-30 years ago. How the whole community came together, celebrated its heritage. He talked about a carnival downtown and a staged “running of the wild horses,” and a street dance. As I recall John had been impressed with the first publication of the first “11 Days of Round-Up” program in 2010 (the brain child of a committee led by Rolling Hills Casino’s Kate Grissom) , and it made him think about how special to everyone “Round-Up Week” used to be when he was growing up here. What was significant to me was that John came directly to the Chamber with his ideas to talk about how the “11 Days” could be even better; involve more community organizations, add events and touch more residents and visitors. John is not one of the Chamber’s” usual suspects.” Yet John knew which local entity could make the community celebration of Round-Up even bigger and better. When John spoke in those terms at the open “11 Days” community planning meeting in February of 2011, he inspired us all. Well, neither the carnival nor the wild horses happened in 2011 (both ran into complications), but other new events were added to the roster for the “11 Days” preceding Round-Up in 2011. The other person to whom I want to tip my hat is Red Bluff Round-Up Association director Corky Kramer. With his Round-Up “hat” on, Corky has sought Round-Up partnership and support with any number of Chamber projects, such as the Ribs, Rods and Rides hot air balloon rally and many others. He stood with John Growney re trying for a Carnival in Downtown Red Bluff in 2011, and brought that idea back to the table again this year, as a potential revenue generator – for the Chamber, not the Round-Up. Corky did good homework researching carnivals with good reputation for family appeal, set up a breakfast last winter so Chamber staff and volunteer leadership and City planning director Scot Timboe could meet the carnival owner, followed up with location research and more; keeping communications open and flowing between all concerned. What particularly moved me was at a recent City Council meeting when Corky was at the podium answering questions from council about the carnival and its impact to the City. Here’s a guy who lives, breathes, eats and sleeps Round-Up. But there was Corky, not me or the Chamber CEO or our events chair, speaking for the broadening of a community celebration – to potentially create revenue for the Chamber, in appreciation for how the Chamber has increased its support of the Red Bluff Round-Up over the past 3 years. The “11 Days of Round-Up” are going to be better than ever this year. I wager they’ll be even better next year. The Chamber will rightly receive credit for that, but a good share of the thanks should go to partners like John and Corky who know what the Chamber can do, and stand with its staff and volunteer leadership to help us do it.

Seeds of Opportunity
Chamber Chairman Greg Stevens urges all area businesses, owners, and em-ployees to participate in this year's Round-Up activities by dressing western and decorating their businesses and offices. The Round-Up Week Promotion Committee will be holding a business decorating contest with plaques to be awarded in several categories at the Cow-boy Coffee meeting on April 12th at 7:45 a.m. at the Green Barn. Judging by the House of Design will take place on Tues-day, April 10th at 8:00 AM. Stevens also reports that Red Bluff Mayor Forrest Flynn will soon be is-suing a "Dress Western" proclamation for April 12 through April 22. To help support the "Dress Western" edict, the Sunrise Rotary Club will once again be operating a roving hoosegow for all non-western dress wearers. Hoosegow operator Linda Durrer notes that "offenders" will be locked up until they can bail themselves out for var-ious amounts! All hoosegow proceeds go to various Rotary Club projects including scholarship.
