DeliveryFree delivery of bulls at the purchaser’s risk to points within a 350 mile radius of Rosemary. Delivery beyond the 350 mile radius will be at cost. Delivery will start April 15. Bulls may be kept at Janzen’s free of charge until delivery. Should the purchaser wish to extend the bull’s stay beyond this date, the cost of feed and care will be $3.00/day/bull. Each bull becomes the buyer’s risk when sold. Insurance will be available at the sale and should be purchased for bulls left at Janzen Ranches for feed and care.

Semen TestingAll bulls will be measured and palpated by our vet. With the bulls not being over a year off age, we will test the bulls in the warm weather, around the end of March.

Welcome to our 21st annual Bull Sale

Wow its hard to think of something to say for another sale catalog! I think it is the hardest part of putting this sale to-gether. We are always trying to let the best product we can raise, do the talking for us.

The bull pen always seems to get better every year as we feel we have the strongest walking herd bulls we have ever had. One of the best things about walking bulls is it makes for large sire groups to help make your product more even to sell to the feeding industry. Some of the pedigrees are older, as we have always tried not to get caught up in the new bull of the month to lessen the surprises. The pen is stacked with a combination of calving ease, performance, and maternal.

As farms get bigger, the labour force stays the same so we all need animals that can do more on their own. Our cows all calve on their own, and are fed like every other commercial herd. Just because they have a paper doesn’t mean they need extra care, and expense.

As I’m writing this the futures for fat cattle are going up, and canola, corn, and barley are going down. We are looking forward to seeing big steers ring the bell this fall.

Sales Management Comments

It is always a pleasure to work with people like the Janzens who live in some of the finest pure ranching country we have in Canada. This territory has dictated the type of cattle that Janzen Ranches has needed to raise, namely soundness as a priority, in particular feet and udders, yet not losing the added performance that Simmental offers and is the reason the cowboys in this region crossbreed with them. The crossbreeding option was smartly expanded in house at Janzen Ranches with the addition of the Red Angus herd several years ago.

The fact that these bulls have been created from 300 mother cows has to effect some of the comfort zone the Janzen Ranches clientèle has come to expect. I think also knowing that the “creature comforts” of practicality has been bred in for generations and generations, for decades and decades, is proof to the success of the strong repeat customer base. These ranchers sell to as many repeat customers as anyone we manage sales for.

Although not relative to the Janzen Bull Sale, but a fact that validates the economic merits of these cattle, is the females that have been sold to other registered breeders and the solid track record they have gone on to attain for their new owners.

We believe any of you would enjoy attending the Janzen Ranches Bull Sale for more than just quality, useful cattle but experience some very per-sonalized hospitality with a big “down home” flavor.
