FFA Helps Spread Christmas CheerBy Jose Chavez

The annual Toys for Cheer campaign is a charity to help less fortunate community members during theirdifficult Christmas times. This year, like every other year, was a success. He goes on to say, “being generous is what Toys for Cheersis all about.” His students feel the same way. “If you’re not a person that needs help, you should be aperson that gives help,” says Triana. Flowers for a CauseBy: Alex Drummer

The French Club will be selling flowers inpreparation for Valentine’s day January 3rd through5th at the high school. Flowers can be purchasedduring lunch or after school. If you want to showthat special someone that you love them, gethim/her a red flower. Get your best friend a yellowone. Simply send a white one as a personalmessage to someone. If you’re feeling risky, youcan even send a pink one to your secret crush! All the proceeds from the flower sales go to SaintJude Children’s Research Hospital. A man namedDanny Thomas founded the establishment. At thetime, Thomas was a struggling entertainer andturned to St. Jude Thaddeus, patron saint ofhopeless causes, for guidance. While praying, hepledged, “Show me my way in life, and I will buildyou a shrine.” This vow led Danny to establish St.Jude Children’s Research Hospital. He devoted thehospital to the sole purpose of treating children withdevastating diseases, and its doors opened on Feb.4, 1962. Today, children from all 50 states have been

treated at the hospital, and 5,900 children aretreated on average at the hospital each year. Itcosts $1.7 million daily to operate St. Jude, and thecost is primarily covered by public donations! Therefore, everyone is encouraged to purchaseflowers; it goes to a truly great cause. Plus, it’s agreat way to wish someone special in your life ahappy Valentine’s Day!

Singing Their Way into Your HeartsBy: Jacob Bray

Year after year, people from far and near come tosee the Wauseon High School Christmas Choral Concert.Making their debut at the Christmas Concert this year isthe 2011-2012 WHS Chorale. Singing fun songs like “AMerry Christmas Polka” and a different version of theclassic “Let It Snow,” the chorale looks to once againimpress the crowd. “The group is looking snazzy this year. Well, notreally, but they are getting there,” states director Mrs.Aeshliman. With18 members in chorale this year (19including the pianist Adrienne Rolf), the group is smallerthan the 24 members from last year. Starting off theconcert with “A Merry Christmas Polka,” the choralehopes to get everyone up on their feet and polka-ingaround the auditorium. Then, they slow it down with aclassic rendition of “I’ll Be Home For Christmas.” Theyhope to win the hearts of the audience with this number. Then ,closing it out for chorale will be “Let It Snow.”Mrs. A chose these three songs because “they were agood combination of fun melodies, beautiful harmonies, and they are something you can dance to.” When askedif the chorale is working hard to get the show down, Mrs.A replied “Sometimes, they seem to have a lot of fun,

which takes over sometimes. However, there is greatstudent leadership and they always seem to get the jobdone.” The chorale has three Christmas concerts this year.On December 14th, they journey to Fulton Manor. Onthe 21st, they perform for the Rotary Club. Finally, theChristmas concert is on the 18th. The Red and Whitestaff would like to wish the chorale good luck in all oftheir endeavors this year. Come out and support theWHS Chorale!

Cooking for the Causeby Dugan Shadbolt

The annual cookie making for Christmas Cheer is aproject ran through the Trinity Lutheran Church. They have an open house on Dec. 14 & 15 for anyneedy families in the Fulton County area. Fourclasses, taught by Mrs. Leininger, helped out bymaking sugar cookies and buckeyes to give theproject, and the people who need these items, alittle sweet gift. The FCCLA members also help withset-up and the toy room. This is a very rewardingway to earn community service hours, because thestudents experience first hand how their hard workmakes them feel. Many students say that they likehow the project makes so many needy familieshappy. The FCCLA has been helping with thisproject since at least 2004 and has loved it everyyear. A big thanks goes out to all who helped makethis project a success and especially Mrs. Leiningerfor organizing and planning.

______________________________________________________________Rudolph: Reindeer or Fakedeer?

Bray or Shadbolt (Special Guests: Alex Drummer & Colin Dietrich)

Jacob: Merry Christmas! With theholiday season fast approaching, wecan’t not cover this topic. Rudolph isdefinitely not a real reindeer.Dugan: Merry Christmas to you aswell Jacob Bray and yes I very muchagree that this is a must cover topic. However ,Rudolph is most definitely areal reindeer.Jacob: How exactly do you classifyRudolph as an actual reindeer!? All theother reindeer used to laugh and callhim names! He was like the kid on theplayground that has lice and no onewants to play with.

Dugan: The lice comparison is justmean and the fact that they called himnames makes his rise to head reindeerall the more perfect. He savedChristmas for crying out loud! The kidis a hero to all the little boys and girls.Jacob: He was by far a last resort!Santa didn’t even need him! Santacould’ve had the elves make a pair ofheadlights. He just felt sorry for littleRudolph.Dugan: No no no! That is not how thestory goes at all. I know you can’t bequestioning the validity of the one of thegreatest Christmas stories in thehistory of the world.Alex: I’m going to have to agree withDugan here. Millions of kids, includingmyself, grew up with Rudolph. To thinkyou’re questioning if he’s real is acomplete disgrace.Jacob: Well, it’s a shame that you bothcannot see what is right in front of you.Do you really think Dasher, Dancer,Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donnerand Blitzen stopped making fun ofRudolph? No way!!! They just didn’tmake fun of him to his face anymore! He was the family member you hate butpretend to like.Dugan: Whether they make fun of himor not makes no difference to the factthat he is real and the only reason theymake fun of him is because they knowthat they couldn’t have Christmaswithout him simply because he is thebest reindeer of all.

Alex: Exactly. It’s just like how Duganalways makes fun of me. It’s becausehe’s simply jealous of my beauty.Jacob: I agree with Drummer on thisone! But that doesn’t change the factthat Rudolph is a phony. A big, fatphony!Dugan: You are very pretty, Alex butRudolph is no more a phony than any ofthe other reindeer. He is a productivemember of the reindeer family anddeserves to be treated with respectduhhhhhhh!!!Alex: And unlike all of the otherreindeer, he’s one of a kind. Does

anyone else have a big red nose thatlights up? I don’t think so.Dugan: For once in my life, I think agirl said something useful. She has anokay point.Jacob: Who let her out of the kitchenin the first place!? But Santa makestoys with lights all the time! He couldhave made lights for his sleigh. Thewhole Rudolph thing is just a pity party.Dugan: Totally agree here^^Alex: ….Dugan: However, she’s right. Rudolphis in the song so he is a reindeer.Jacob: A lot of things are in songsbroski and broskette. Does that makethem true? Because last I checked Lil’Wayne isn’t president and MichaelJackson isn’t very Bad.Dugan: Lil’ Wayne should be thepresident and Michael Jackson is BAD,so I don’t know what you’re talkingabout.Jacob: Lil’ Weezy would make a

terrible President!!! And MichaelJackson is just plain dirty. Rudolph isno more of a reindeer than Mrs. Claus.Dugan: Ya know I’ve been thinking thisover ,and I think you have some greatpoints. I think Alex is totally wrong.Jacob: Exactly! I’m glad you’ve finallysmelt the roses! Rudolph is a phonybologna Reindeer!.Dugan: He is in the song ,but I’m justnot seeing it anymore. I mean what real

reindeer has a bright red nose? As forquestioning the validity of theChristmas classic in the story, it doesseem like Santa is just taking pity onRudolph. I think its cause Alex is a girlher emotional side isn’t letting her seethe truth.Jacob: How right you are, youngpatawon. Rudolph the red nosedFAKEdeer might as well be driving theGrinch’s sleigh.Colin: Rudolph is obviously a realreindeer. You know how I know this?Because my mommy said so ,and it isvery true. Alex is totally right here. I also

can’t believe you guys would gang upon a beautiful, young, talented, smartyoung lady. That is totally disrespectfuland not called for. You will regret this!Alex: Thanks bud! :)Colin: You’re welcome, Alex. However, men are talking here. So asMr. Brady says, “ You will need to go tototal silence at this point”.Jacob: Alex, this is a serious debate. The smiley face was totallyunnecessary.Dugan: Could not agree more. ^^^and I don’t like your hair !Jacob: I think you’re hair looksbreathtakingly beautiful.Alex: Aw ,thanks best friend! I feel sounwanted. I’m gonna go cry myself tosleep. You guys are getting coal in yourstockings for sure!Jose: Rudolph hates you all!!Dugan: I don’t care what a FAKEdeersays haters gonna hate.(Alex)Colin: Dugan, reindeers can’t talk. Soyour point is completely invalid.Rudolph is real and they call me“Houdini” ,so it’s true. End ofdiscussion!Dugan: Can’t argue with that.Jacob: K

By: Colin Dietrich, Dugan Shadbolt, and Jacob Bray

Colin “Houdini” Dietrich (20-5) Dugan “Google” Shadbolt(17-8) Jacob”Stallion” Bray(18-7)

Toledo vs Air Force Eric Page is the best WR in

the nation and leads Toledo to

a victory.

Eric Page is the best WR in the

nation and leads Toledo to a victory.

Eric Page is the best WR in the

nation and leads Toledo to a victory.

Michigan St. vs Georgia Kirk Cousins has been at

Michigan State for a trillion

years. He will find a way to

lead them to a win.

Georgia played LSU tough for awhile

and the Wisconsin vs MSU games

this year have been awesome I’ll

take the SEC and go with Georgia.

Michigan State should’ve won the

Big Ten title and they should be in

the Rose Bowl. State all the way!

Nebraska vs S Carolina South Carolina had a

disappointing year.Llooking at

their preseason expectation,.

I’m going to support the big

ten and go with Nebraska.

This is going to be a knock down

drag out fight to the end. I’m really

looking forward to watching this.

South Carolina by a field goal in the

second over time.

Nebraska had a very impressive

season in the Big Ten. They beat

South Carolina by a score or two.

Ohio St vs Florida Very disappointing year for

both teams. However, Ohio

State overcomes the

destractions and wins by a

touchdown.

I hate Ohio State but I hate Florida

too so whatever im rooting for

Braxton to get a tattoo... or maybe a

car ya know whatever he likes.

This is either going to be a really

good one, or just plain ugly. Both

teams are 6-6, but Florida either

wins big or gets swamped. I’ll go

with the Buckeyes to get a close

victory

Wisconsin vs. Oregon Oregon likes to try to spread

you thin, while Wisconsin

likes to run you over. This

game will be very interesting

to watch. But I will go with the

Badgers.

Oregon is a very fast west coast

team and Wisconsin is just a big

pound the run type team this is

going to be a great game to watch

I’ll take Wisconsin and Montee Ball.

Wisconson is a good team.

Depending on Montee Ball’s

perfomance, I have the Badgers

pegged to win.

Stanford vs Oklahoma

St.

OSU would much rather be

playing for a National Title and

I think Stanford steals this win

from Oklahoma State.

Andrew Luck has a ton of money

waiting and much better teams to

play. He’ll have an average game as

Stanford loses to OK St.

Andrew Luck will be bitter about not

winning the Heisman. He leads

Stanford to a big win.

Michigan vs Va Tech I think Michigan feels like they

still have something to prove.

Michigan wins with late TD

run by Denard.

Run Denard run cause this Va Tech

team is a good one. I’m going with

Michigan by 7.

Michigan will put up a valiant effort.

It could go either way. My pick is

Virginia Tech.

Bama vs LSU LSU has proved all year that

they are the best team in

College Football. Once again,

they get it done and they will

be National Champions..

There is a lot and I mean a lot of

talent on these two squads Jefferson

has been playing well and both

teams had a Heisman candidate. I

have no idea who’s going to win this

one. I guess I’ll go with record and

take LSU.

This is once again going to be a

good one. That being said, Tyrann

Mathiu is a champ and leads LSU

to a victory by shutting down the

passing game of Bama.

______________________________________________________________Black Rain: A Continuous Short Story

by Caitlin Ackley and Ashlie Hall

Too distracted by the mess, I don’t notice as the men pile into the ambulance. They speed away, lights flashing, as the other three mencrawl into the police car.

“Wait.” I say under my breath, because it’s all that I can manage. I use all of my remaining strength and run a few steps until I fall at theedge of the road. The car pulls away right next to me and continues driving down the endless highway, leaving me lying in the snow.

“How did they not see me,” I want to scream, “I was right there, at the edge of the road.”I just lay there, giving up hope, and feel the cool, fluffy snow between my fingers.I must have passed out, because when I wake up, the warm sun is floating high in the sky, warming the snow around me into little

shimmering puddles. The pain is throbbing in my legs as they start to regain feeling and I manage to prop myself up into a sitting position.Enjoying the warm sun against my skin, I almost forget about the situation I’m in for a brief moment. A slight sound off in the distance catchesmy attention, the sound of someone crying.

The sound is faint as I force myself up off the ground, but there’s only one place it could possibly be coming from. I slowly crawl myway across the road, because that’s as fast as I can manage, and slide down into the ditch. Less than five feet away, the silver Malibu sits, crushed underneath a pine tree, with shards of glass everywhere I look. The crying is more distinct now and it sounds as if a girl is sobbingquietly to herself.

I slide down the embankment and grab onto the dented hood on the back of the car to stand up. I walk around the car, the sound ofglass crunching underneath my feet with every step I take, and feel sick as I almost smell the dried up blood on the windows. I force myselfforward, but can’t see through the mixture of blood and dirt packed on the windows. Grabbing the handle to the back, drivers side door, I yankon it, but it won’t budge. The door is jammed shut and after inspecting the drivers door, which really wouldn’t be considered a door anymore, Idecide there is no way I’m getting in the car on this side. I walk around the back of the car, since there is a tree blocking the front, and aftertugging on the door to the back seat, it eventually pops open.

A little girl with long blond hair sits on the back seat, hugging her knees close to her chest as she cautiously looks up at me. Streaksrun down her cheeks where her tears have been washing away the thin layer of mud and dirt. Coated in mud, her blond hair falls in thin strandsin front of her face.

I almost don’t recognize her through all the dirt, but her bright blue eyes are still as vibrant asalways. As the little, ten year old, girl looks up at me, I see a flicker of hope in her eyes and a faintsmile form on her face.

“Ebony?” She whispers.“Yeah, it’s me.” I say with relief as my little sister flings her arms around me. Her grip is so tight

I don’t think she is ever going to let go, and I don’t want her to. As she slowly lets go of me, I help herout of the car.

“Are you okay, are you hurt? “ I ask, circling around her two or three times. She giggles as Ihold up my hand and ask her how many fingers there are.

“Three,” She smiles, “Ebony, I’m fine-”“What’s your name?” I interrupted.“Emy Ray Johnson, I’m ten years old, born February tenth.” She gives me a look and says,

“I’m fine.”“Any sharp pains, bruising, let me look at the cut on your forehead...” I say starting to inspect

her cut.She interrupts my rambling, “Ebony,” she grabs my arms, “I’m fine.”I sigh with relief and take her into my arms once again. “I don’t know what I would do if

anything ever happened to you.”

“I do have one question though,” she looks up at me, “What happened?”I’m not sure how long we were talking, an hour, maybe two. We eventually sit down on the

snow covered ground and try to figure out everything that’s happened.“The last thing I remember, is getting in the car, I don’t know where we were going or anything.” Emy pauses as she thinks about what

to say next, “But there were flashes of bright lights, and the sound of rain, I think.” … To be continued.

Anticipation of that Morning

by Jacob Bray

Christmas day,

most will say,

Is a day of great Joy.

When gifts are given to a boy.

When girls get presents

and fathers cook pheasants,

in the oven’s warm glow.

Mothers grow

in anticipation.

because their children are

getting Inception.

When it is Christmas eve,

children roll up their sleeves.

And are taken over

The city of Dover,

are the Christmas lights

illuminating the nights.

Waiting for old Saint Nick.

This Beard white and thick. To

bring tidings of Christmas cheer,

on his eight reindeer.

Christmas time is here

for everyone far and near.

So give some toys,

and spread some joy,

to all the girls and boys.

Old St. Nickby Caitlin Ackley and Ashlie

Hall

You light up like a Christmastree

That must be why you’re Alwaysgood to me... Because you’re

Old St. NickThat’s why you see

I leave cookies and cakesAnd milk by the tree

When you come down theChimney on this Christmas Eve

You eat them all up with Yourrosy red cheeks and A little

chuckle as you Place presentsunder the Tree

I crawled out of bedJust as fast as I could

To peek through the rail to Seewhat I could

When you heard me StirringUp the chimney you went

With a ho, ho, ho and a MerryChristmas

Now get back to bed

Santa: Creeper or Saint???

by Ashlie Hall and Caitlin Ackley

Caitlin: Definitely a creeper, I mean he sees you when your sleeping

and knows when your awake!

Ashlie: I know right. Other than your parents, how is he going to know

if you have been bad or good? Then, he threatens that if you aren’t good

that you better be good for goodness sake.

Caitlin:...

Ashlie:The only saint thing about Santa is he leaves presents.

Caitlin: Unless you get coal...

Ashlie: But there is that small detail that a fat man sneaks into your

house once every year and watches you sleep... nope not creeperish at

all (sarcasm.)

Caitlin: I got coal once...

Ashlie: Santa probably thought you weren’t good enough to watch.

Caitlin: But my hamster died... I didn’t kill it I swear!

Ashlie: When did we start talking about your hamster?!... When did you

ever have a hamster???

Caitlin: His name was Fluffy and his coat was spotted brown and

white.

Ashlie: Fluffy... how...unique. Anyways, back to the topic. SaNtA Is A

CrEePeR!

Caitlin: I loved Fluffy more than life itself!

Ashlie: Um.... but Fluffy is dead... so you’re dead??? Are you the ghost

of Christmas past???

Caitlin: No... I’m the ghost of Christmas future... You better watch out

because I saw your future and Santa is coming for you!

Ashlie: But... I’m so confused, and a little freaked out. Like we have

been saying... SANTA is a CREEPER!!!

Caitlin: And he killed my hamster :,(

Ashlie: Well... I’m sorry to hear about this Fluffy (that I never knew

you had until now) even though I’ve known you for years and never

knew you had such a pet. Here is a check list for the boys and girls on

Christmas Eve to stay away from creepers like Santa:

Caitlin: Feed your hamsters.

Ashlie: Keep a sock full of butter next to your head when you sleep.

Caitlin: Don’t leave the cage open all night, just some of the night.

Ashlie: Turn off all the lights to save energy.

Caitlin: If you’re petting it for an hour and it stops moving... Be

worried... Very worried.

Ashlie: Have a very merry creeper filled Christmas!!

Caitlin: Merry Christmas Fluffy!

Ashlie: You and that hamster.... Bye!

Caitlin: I love you, Fluffy!
