CONGRATULATIONS TO THE
NEWLY BAPTIZED
Our faith community recently welcomed
Ayden Christopher Hackett, son of Marissa and
Christopher into Christ’s life and the Catholic Church
through Baptism.
Congratulations to Ayden and his family.
23rd Sunday in Ordinary Time
“Everyone of you who does not renounce all his possessions
cannot be my disciple.” (Luke 14:33) When we first hear
this statement, it seems that Jesus is making an
unrealistic demand upon us. How can we renounce all
of our possessions? We need them to live. However,
what we must renounce is the belief that they belong
to us. Everything that we have belongs to God alone.
All of our resources are entrusted to us not only for
our own use, but also so that we can help others. Once
we renounce the idea that we possess or are
entitled to anything, it is much easier to share the
many gifts that God has given us. Then we truly are
His Disciples.

Poem
Some folks asked last weekend if I could print the
poem that I read, Wislawa Szymboka’s “In Praise of
Feeling Bad About Yourself,” in the bulletin. I’m
afraid I can’t do that since it’s a copyrighted work.
But you can find it online (the first place I found it
was holiclane.com/poem-in-praise-of-feeling-bad-
about-yourself/) but it’s in many other places as well.
Just search for the title. The volume it appeared in
View with a Grain of Sand: Selected Poems in 1995 is
still available on Amazon. I’ve also left a very few
copies in the entryway to the church.
