    different.

    16. There were two different

    events, one focused on senior

citizens and one open to the

    community.

    Health and fitness tests and

    assessments, exercise

    demonstrations, nutritionists, local

Health Fair, Memorial Day Parade, Independence Day Celebration and

Family Campout Hosted By Departmentfitness clubs, and refreshments and

giveaways were featured at the fair.

    The Department of Social Services

    and the Department of Health

    organized the fair.

    Memorial Day ParadeRain threatened dampening

    everyones experience at the

annual Memorial Day Parade andCeremony on May 25, but the sun

came out and it was an event

    enjoyed by all.

The morning began with the Salute

    to Veterans breakfast for all

    veterans in Hillsborough and their

    families.

    The parade featured Hillsboroughs

    veterans, local elected officials, Boy

    Scout and Girl Scout troops,

    Hillsborough Baseball League

    teams, recreation soccer and

    softball teams, and other various

    community groups and

    organizations.

At the conclusion of the parade, the

    traditional

    wreath ceremony was held,

honoring those who passed away in

    service.

Independence Day CelebrationNearly 4,000 residents attended

    the annual Independence Day

Celebration held on June 29 at

    Auten Road Intermediate School.

    Many events preceded the 16-

    minute firework display. Inflatable

    amusements kept the young

    children entertained, volleyball

games were hosted by the staff,

    various restaurants from town sold

food in the food tent, and DJ Lou

    from SoundFX Entertainment

provided the sound track for the

    night.

Do your children have extra energy or

need to get more exercise and play

time? Maybe you want them to enjoy

the outdoors in a safe, controlled area.

Playgrounds are an essential part in

    any community for childrens

    recreation and play. Hillsborough has

many playgrounds, but a few stand out

    above the rest.

Municipal PlaygroundThe Municipal Playground is located at

the Peter J. Biondi Municipal Buildingand is a favorite among children.

    Popular because of its convenient

    location in town, this playground

    features slides, climbing walls, tunnels,

swings, and a sandbox. It is themed

after a castle. All elements of the

    playground are signed with safety

    information and suggested age ranges.

    Adjacent soccer fields provide another

opportunity for children to play games

    and sports.

The playground is well fenced, and

there are plenty of benches in the

shade for parents to relax while their

    children play and explore.

Each of the planks on the fence

    surrounding the playground is

engraved with the names of volunteers

who assisted in building the facility.

    Location: 379 South Branch Road

Ann Van Middlesworth ParkThe Universal Playground at Ann Van

    Middlesworth Park was opened in

2010 and is one of the few of its kind in

    the state.

Our town is a leader in inclusive

    recreation people with disabilities are

able to participate in all of our

    programs with modifications, as

    needed. This playground shows our

    commitment to inclusive recreation.

Children of all abilities are able to enjoy

    this playground, which includes 27

ADA accessible play components and a

safety surface that reduces the severity

of and likelihood of injury from an

    accidental fall.

    This playground is extremely popular

due to its location at one of

    Hillsboroughs busiest and most active

    park.

Being on the few in the state, it is our

    hope that this Universal Playground

    attracts people from surrounding

    communities.

There is also a pavilion at the park,

which is a perfect location for a lunch

    or snack break.

Location: 570 Pleasant View RoadWoodfield ParkThe two playgrounds at Woodfield

    Park are both very different.

The playground in the west side of the

park is larger and has bigger slides,

    walls, and ladders.

The east sides playground is smaller

    and more geared toward younger

    children.

Location (East): 1 Marshall RoadLocation (West): 154 Beekman Lane

Docherty ParkOne of the smaller playgrounds, this

park has slides and a jungle gym. There

is also a pavilion and baseball and

    soccer fields.

    Location: 154 U.S. Route 206 South

    Swings, Slides, andSandboxes
