Re-Creation Of Batman Analysis. Ummina & Nasima

Scene 1

The opening scene of Batman begins with a long shot of a swarm of bats flying in a pitch black sky. This creates a sinister tone foreshadowing danger. However due to our low budget we were unable to create a similar scene like that. As a result of this we went to a spot where there is a large amount of BIRDS instead and filmed a close up of them flying. The birds were much easier to film and find whereas if we tried to film bats, living in East London (Stepney) that would be very difficult if not impossible.

Scene 2

The following scene in Batman begins with a very fast pan of a garden gradually showing us a little girl running out of the garden. We did not have enough time to find a large garden to film so therefore we went to the local park and took a pan of the bushes. We wanted to make it seem as though someone is running hence we used a handheld camera while we filmed the bushes. There is a cut to a young boy running after a girl creating a feeling that the kid is running probably towards danger which was foreshadowed in the previous scene. Due to the limited time we had we were unable to find a young girl and instead used teenage girl.

The use of shot reverse shot in Batman is very effective as we can see both the kids exchanging dialogue and their facial expression. We done the exact same shot when both the actors attention is focused on the stone in the girls hand.

In Batman there is a close up of the little girls hand slowing opening up to reveal a rock. We recreated the same scene with the teenage girl opening her hands to a rock.

Scene 4

FINAL SCENEThe camera is positioned at a low steady angle when the boy falls down the well showing the full impact of the fall. Most of the shots used are long tracking shots, but a focused shot on the boys face when at the bottom of the well is used to show his distress. A long shot is used to show the full height of the well, and a zoom as the bats fly from inside the well is used, to create tension for the audience.

We don’t have permission to film near a well as that can be dangerous nor do we have the money to go to a place where a well is available. Therefore we came up with the idea that the boy will fall down the hill creating the same meaning that his life is in jeopardy.

EVALUATION

After watching back our re-creation of Batman we noticed a few mistakes. One mistake we did was the shot reverse shot. Batman begins with the girl talking to the boy followed by a shot reverse shot showing the continuity of the conversation with the boys facial expression. We completely forgot to give the actors dialogue during this scene and instead they just stared at the stone.

If we was to amend the mistakes in our re-creation of Batman we will have them exchange dialogue to further reinforce their brotherly and sisterly relationship.
