INTRODUCTION

Th'e, pentatomid bugs sustain their identities from rest of hemipteran species in having singular triangulate scutel1ar structure. They are comprised of 51,,1000 species of which 589 Orienta~ spec;~ are delineated by Distant (1902, 1908, 1918) on taxonomic aspects. The research workers have record'ed the convergence of pentatomid bugsl from Neotropica1, Indomalayasian and Ethiopian r.egions with brilliant shades of conlposite COIOT pigmentation as demar, cating fade~s of temperate forms from l~ropical ones.

The prelsent authors in conformity with the line of approacll adopted by Schouteden (1909), Leston (1952, 1954), Ruckes (1963), McDona1d (1966) and Ahmad and Kamaluddin (1982) have characterised the structuralJ' disslimj)ariti~6 of the ar/matures of the paramc'f\!S of sixty one spech~s belonging to forty four genera and observed thlet most re]~abl,e significant key traits as ,s[ufficien:t to pTeserve th;e distinctiveness of the individual sp,ecies. The 'e~onomic importance of the resp:octive species is further noted here. The authors have followed the exis, tin !!I nomen.c1atural status of the families.

~,

The authors are, grateful to Dr. B. K. Tikader:o D'irector, Zoological Survey of India, Calcutta for providing th'e fadilitie:s and encouragement.
