Domino Records • British independent record label based in London.• There is also a wing of the label based in Brooklyn, New York that handles releases in the

United States, as well as a German division called Domino Deutschland and a French division called Domino France.

The artists included in this list are very similar to my artist in the respect of what music they play and there attitude. A standout name is Alex Turner who alongside releasing with the arctic monkeys has released solo albums. One reason I could say my artist has chosen this label is to follow in the footsteps of one of his favourite artists being Alex Turner.

Sony Music• American label and company owned by Sony through Sony Entertainment.• Second biggest record label in the world• Headquarters in the United States

The artists signed to this label include a lot of pop/rnb mainstream music which is not the sort my artist would associate with. A lot of these artists are already successful meaning that maybe they would only sign an artist after they became successful. Something my artist is not yet.

Warner Music Group• Third largest record company in global music industry• WMG employs in excess of 3,500 people and has operations in more

than 50 countries throughout the world• In December 2008, negotiations between WMG and YouTube broke

down. As a result, Warner Music Group has continuously blocked or muted videos on YouTube that feature music recordings belonging to its labels or to its publishing arm.

This is a broad variety of artists containing music from all different genres. The only artist closely similar to mine on this list is Ed Sheeran, a solo artist who plays the acoustic guitar in majority of his songs. I believe this record company is too mainstream for an indie artist to be signed too.

This wouldn’t be good for a solo artist trying to get his music hear by everyone.

Summary • Overall I think that domino records is the best suited for my artist,

many artists signed to the label are not overly successful yet but the big names on the record sound very similar to my artist which could be a reason they would help promote my artist more. • My artist is British and domino records are based in Britain, although

there are abroad buildings it would be best for my artist to work in his first album at home and have it released in his home country first.• The other two (warner, Sony) are full of mainstream artists, this is not

what the indie culture is about. They also contain very electrical/ rnb music which is not suited to my artist.
