What Is A Record Label and How Do They Enforce Copyright.

A record label is a company, a brand that markets and runs the business side of music and video production to gain the highest net growth for themselves and their artists. Record labels control the copyright and legal side of the production and expedition process keeping control of original music to themselves to hold a unique asset to there label.

What Type of Label? Which One? Origins?

I think a Major label would be a better way to get on the map as they have more ties and more connections to make you more broad and globally known. A label such as Sony would be great as then there are links into other forms of media such as films and other areas, Sony are globally known and have a large audience base. Sony have a variation artists already signed which would help my artist reach out to other audiences via. easier featuring contracts. Sony has many artists signed such as Shakira, Whitney Houston and Calvin Harris. Sony Music was created in 1991 as a as a division of Sony, a global company responsible for the manufacture of electronic products, creation of film production and music production and label. Sony music was purchased as Columbia/CBS records, previously known as ARC and founder in 1929.

How Are You Going to Handle Copyright?

My music video will be a mime of an already produced song non original piece, I will avoid infringement of copyright by not claiming it as my own and not claiming or earning an income from its production. PRS; PRS (Performing Rights Society) are a group that chase up incorrect use of an artist music and gain revenue on their behalf they watch out for every time a piece is played or used and gain the required payment for its use.
