Each piece of Wildwood’s Granary Collection is handcrafted from the rich and storied history of the Old Globe Granary Elevators located in the Twin Ports City of Superior, Wisconsin. Originally designed by A.J. Sawyer, the Globe Elevators were the largest in the world and were in continual use from 1887 to 1988 – a nearly unheard span of time. It took a crew of two to three thousand laborers from 1885 to 1887 to build the elevators. Once finished the Globe Elevators were capable of holding five million bushels of grain where it would be stored until it was loaded onto cargo ships that traveled the Great Lakes, St. Lawrence Seaway, and beyond. Today these grain bins constitute one of the last known supplies of virgin-forest old growth Eastern White Pine along with Oak, Douglas Fir, and Southern Yellow Pine. This highly prized and sought after wood was saved from demolition and began being lovingly reclaimed and repurposed in 2007. Surviving decades of use and the potential for fire, the Globe Elevators are a symbol of the Industrial Revolution and an enduring symbol of Americana. The Granary Collection by Wildwoods reminds one of the rich heritage of the Northland and of the mighty pioneers who first walked the
vast forests and blazed a trail that we are still following today.
