Greetings from our Board ChairIt’s an exciting time to be part of the Kids Kottage

team! Staff and volunteers work hard to help the

families that need our assistance, and reach out to

those in the community, the board and management

strive to ensure that the machine supporting the work

keeps running and the Kottage remains strong into

the year ahead.

We wish a fond farewell to Marie Stelmach who

served so graciously as our honourary chair

during Premier Stelmach’s term.

We recall and recognize the

board members who have

offered so much of

their time, energy

and talents to

assist us. We

welcome new

board members

Mary O’Neill

and Brad Klak

to help us in our

tasks as well

as several new

committee members

that will bring their ideas

and energy to our events.

And now we have a new Premier

who will begin to put her own mark on

the province! Good thing we are not afraid of change!

As we begin our new year of fundraising events, we

appreciate the strong support of our committed Earth

Angels, Brookfield Residential and Mammoet. We

gratefully acknowledge ATB for their recent success in

hosting the Kids Kottage Classic Golf Tournament to

benefit the Kottage, and for their forward thinking to

build upon this year’s success. And we look forward

to the new partnerships that are emerging with

Edmonton’s charitable corporate community. In big

and small ways, the change is exciting and our shared

commitment to the children of Edmonton is renewed.

I look forward to the Radiothon coming up on

December 15th at West Edmonton Mall. Radiothon

heralds Christmas for us at Kids Kottage Foundation.

I look forward to meeting the many volunteers who

bring their time and energy to make this

fundraising event successful every

year. Stay tuned to hear how

we can all participate

to make Radiothon

2011 the biggest

and best ever!

Tickets are on

sale now for

the “Love of

Wine” event on

February 10th,

2012 at a brand

new location - the

Delta South Hotel

and Conference Centre.

Surprise your friends

and family this year with a

Christmas gift of tickets to this upscale

event.

As I write this, fall is slowly giving way to winter. I

anticipate the kind of beauty only winter can offer

and feel myself ‘gearing up’ for an inspiring, busy,

Christmas season. Let me be one of the first to wish

each and every one a Merry Christmas and a joyous

holiday season.

Kids Kottage Donor Appreciation 2011Tuesday, May 5th was a beautiful evening of celebration and honour for the

supporters in attendance, who have enabled Kids Kottage to continue our

work for the past three years. The Kids Kottage Donor Appreciation at the

Chateau Louis Hotel and Conference Centre showcased the donor support

accumulated from January 2008 to December 31, 2010. Those in attendance

were treated to delicious food set around the gorgeous ice sculpture, beautiful

harp music by Terry McDade and a special message from our Honourary

Chair, Mrs. Marie Stelmach. We were also blessed with the attendance of

our Athletic Patron, Jennifer Heil! Following the formal program and gift

presentation hosted by Board Chair, Patricia Hebert and Fund Raising

Committee Chair, Troy Chalifoux, both Mrs. Stelmach and Jennifer Heil

graciously posed for individual photos for any interested guests! Thank you so

much to all of you who allowed us to honour you!

Volunteer Groups

Volunteer AppreciationOn June14th, the St. Michael’s room at Chateau

Louis Hotel and Conference Centre filled with

a very special group of vibrant, enthusiastic

volunteers who joined together to celebrate

their steadfast commitment and service to the

children and families at Kids Kottage. Guests

were entertained by ‘Pure Artists’. Volunteers at

individual tables built bridges from the spaghetti

noodles and marshmallows supplied. The

enthusiastic participation filled the room with buzz

and levity. Prizes and gifts were awarded to all.

We could never say, “thank you” enough to our

many generous, committed and hardworking

volunteers. You bless Kids Kottage and the

children and families in ways too numerous to

mention. You lift our spirits and lighten our load!

Kids Kottage and ATB are grateful to the donors whose generosity fostered a lively and successful auction. One lucky foursome won their tickets to the tournament at the Kids Kottage Gala on June 3!

The golfing was made all the more exciting by

the presence of some special guests. Several teams were fortunate to have Edmonton Eskimo alumnus’s Tom Wilkinson, Tom Richards, Herb Dobbins, and Todd Storme playing on their team. We were glad to see the three Oiler kids, Ryan Jones, Theo Peckham and Taylor Hall. We welcomed Oiler alumnist Dave Lumley, Oiler Color Commentator Rob Brown, and Oilers play by play announcer, Jack Michaels as well as Rod Phillips, Hall of Fame radio announcer. Steve Tambellini, Kids Kottage Sports Patron, brought greetings from his wife Denise who could not attend this year. Bob Stauffer, 630 CHED Radio Host was our MC for the evening.

Community Fundraising Events

Supreme Group Says, “THANKS FOR ALL YOU DO”, to the tune of a $6200 DonationAug 19, 2011 the Supreme Group held their annual Employee Golf Tournament and BBQ. Employees of Supreme Group’s Edmonton offices encompassing Supreme Steel LP, Midwest Constructors LP, and Quality Fabricating & Supply LP enjoyed golfing, a putting contest and raffles. The end result was a very impressive $6,200 for the Kids Kottage Foundation, “largely due”, says Kelly-Deene Tolchard, P.R. & Communications Coordinator, “to the generosity of our business partners”.

There were prizes for all at the tournament and a prize for Kids Kottage as well, a lovely clock.

The thanks of Kids Kottage Foundation, on behalf of the children and families who will benefit from your generous donation, is heartfelt.

Acrodex makes a $5850 Donation, at the Kids Kottage Classic Golf Tournament

On August 12, 2011 Acrodex held their 2011 Northern Alberta Golf Invitational. Guests at the tournament bought tickets and made donations toward the donated prize raffle.

Those proceeds, coupled with $5,000 that Acrodex made on behalf of its clients, was presented to Kids Kottage representatives at the Foundation’s own tournament, the Kids Kottage Classic, held on August 29, 2011.

“We are extremely grateful for the support from Acrodex”, says Pam Miller, Fund Development Director at Kids Kottage. “It takes a large budget to provide crucial emergency respite and family support services to the children and families in our community”.

We cannot overemphasize the importance of the fundraising efforts of our community on our behalf. The reality is that Kids Kottage Foundation cannot, without the help, energy, and generosity of our community, balance the revenue of our operating budget with the expense side. The value of ‘being here” to save children from pain, hunger and sadness cannot be overstated. It is a service crucial not only to our community’s health and wellness but to the safety and well-being of our children.

Shine FM culminates the 105 Days of Summer with a Day of Family Fun, Golden Keychain Prizes and a Barbecue that raised nearly $600 for Kids Kottage! Shine invited representatives of Kids Kottage to attend and enjoy the event.

Bird Construction steps up to support Kids Kottage in a big-hearted way. Bird Construction donated over $3000 to Kids Kottage. The donation includes proceeds from two fundraisers they held as well as proceeds from their golf tournament. There is just nothing more encouraging to us than to find new partners and friends who are motivated to help Kids Kottage make a positive difference to vulnerable children in our community and their families. THANKS BIRD CONSTRUCTION!

Sterling CraneNorm Bessette’s visit to the Kottage one day in October left staff in smiles! Norm brought the proceeds from Sterling Crane’s award banquet to help ensure that Kids Kottage is here to help families in trouble before injurious harm happens to their children as a result of crisis and ensuing distress. Thanks Norm, and Sterling Crane for the value you place on children and their families.

Brookfield Golf TournamentEarth Angel Brookfield Residential donated over $8,000 raised at their golf tournament this year to Kids Kottage.

Louise Gibson, Senior Development Manager at Brookfield Residential, warmly thanked her guests for their generous support for children and families in trouble.

Earth Angel Brookfield Residential uses opportunities available to their corporation to explain and commend the work of Edmonton’s unique crisis nursery. Helping families to be strong and to raise their children in safety and security is the role of the Kottage, and Kids Kottage thanks Brookfield Residential for helping us to do this important work.

Team 1260Team 1260 made Kids Kottage surprise benefactors of the proceeds of their golf tournament this summer. Representatives of the Kottage were a little overwhelmed to receive over $800 that Team 1260 raised through contests, raffles and 50/50’s. Thanks Team 1260 for putting this support to help children and families in trouble!

Landmark Group of BuildersKids Kottage so appreciates all our major, corporate and individual

donors, without whom we could not continue our work, caring for

vulnerable children from families that are in crisis, preventing child abuse

and/or neglect. One of the special opportunities to support our cause is

through long-term commitments of support for a minimum of three years. This kind of commitment gives us a stable foundation of support

enabling us to continue our work.

We have just recently introduced a new, multi-year, donor level called,

Future Builders. Landmark Group of Builders, our inaugural Future

Builder has committed $5,000 each year for three years! Landmark

Group of Builders is the recipient of the auspicious award as Edmonton’s

Large Volume Builder of the Year, announced on March 26, 2011! In the

past thirty years of serving the Alberta housing market, the Landmark

Group of Builders has built over 8,300 homes! They demonstrate their

dedication to supporting the development of communities they live and

work in, through long-term contributions to charitable causes such as

Kids Kottage!
